Martin from Intermedia co-worked with me and my team to design and build the infrastructure for Lulubit. It was all built with an Infrastructure-as-code approach that allows us to create and re-create environments quite easily. As well as the whole infrastructue which included:

• Compute (ECS)
• DB
• Security setup, etc.

he also delivered the first version of all our deployment pipelines.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Different parts of the infrastructure that were delivered in partial checkpoints. However the real value appeared once we tested and settled the integration of all parts.

Quite well. But I would encourage them to improve in their planning system. It was too high level to me. It is more about improving visibility rather than delivery itself, things got done.

Intermedia developed a website for a multi-vendor e-commerce website. They had the pleasure of inheriting a product and tech stack from a prior development team. The technologies used in this project is the following:

The folks at Intermedia jumped right in to do an analysis of the code base and then proceeded to completing tickets that was already pre defined within our JIRA ticketing system.

They were also very proactive in suggesting solutions to any issues that arose.

Undoubtedly, the work plan has had several turning points, and they have been a challenge for the development of the project. Let's add global factors such as a terrible pandemic. However, there is a key point that has helped to achieve the success of the project, and this is due to a relationship of respect and professionalism when working together. Whenever an issue arose along the way, there were proposals to bring it to a successful conclusion.

We are getting to that point, everything has gone well.

Remarkable teamwork for project management. All team members resolve challenges or make the necessary adjustments in a proactive manner, and from the perspective of the client and the final product. I could not make an evaluation of each person in particular because I do not consider it appropriate. But I can say that it has been gratifying to question, have self-criticism and adaptability of each profile with whom we have collaborated, that if all with a common factor "Professionalism and delivery."

What makes Intermedia unique, without a doubt, is its talent and young blood, but personally I lean towards the human side, when working as a team or individually, everyone shows great commitment, respect and professionalism to attend to each requirement. As a result, a product of great quality from a professional point of view, and from a human point of view, I think I now have new friends whom I respect and admire.

Without a doubt, there will always be something to improve, technology is changing and one adapts day by day.

I’m the CEO and founder of Argo Trading. We provide AI services to agricultural organizations that produce cannabis. Our main offices are in New York, and we also have customers in several states within the US.

Our app allows anyone to become a master grower because any person in an organization can have an understanding of the condition of the plant by taking a single picture of a leaf. In my experience, it takes 7–12 years to train someone to have that level of understanding of the health of a plant. Our app will apply to every crop worldwide; we chose cannabis because this is the most lucrative market we have found.

What challenge were you trying to address with Intermedia?

We gathered that there was a need to generate a standardized process in which the growers analyze their crops. I intended to have a tool that would allow them to have excellent growing conditions and health for different crops. For this purpose, we wanted to produce a software solution to simplify, standardize, and allow an easier way to diagnose the health of the plants.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Intermedia has built our mobile app from scratch using AWS, TensorFlow, React, and Python. Regarding hardware, they’re using a platform based on Raspberry Pi for the app’s cameras and processor. The project has two components: the mobile app and a web application linked to static cameras. 

Users working in a facility can take pictures of a single leaf of a plant and then upload the image to the cloud, where the AI — which is essentially computer vision AI — compares that picture to hundreds of thousands of pictures and issues diagnostics about the health condition of the plant. The picture is a multispectral image that identifies things like whether the plant requires more or less water or if it has any fungi or diseases that are visible in that image.

The app’s development took roughly six months from beginning to end. From there, we started testing, and some things needed fixing. Currently, Intermedia is working on a second version in which users will be able to capture images with static cameras placed at specific angles in the growing area. This feature will allow for wider coverage of all the plants visible to the cameras. This is paired with a real-time web application that will issue early warnings in case of an infestation. 

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with a project manager, a UI/UX designer, a senior backend developer, and a senior frontend developer. We’ve also worked with a data scientist who has handled compiling and repairing the images for the AI.

How did you come to work with Intermedia?

I’ve known one of Intermedia’s owners for over 10 years, and we have always kept in contact. I called asking for his advice when my idea of building this app was just a pipedream. Although I thought I was asking for something impossible, he told me his team would be able to develop it.

How much have you invested in them?

So far, we’ve spent about $150,000, and the project is still growing.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2021, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Intermedia is extremely responsive to user feedback. We're launching another app version and using user suggestions to make it more user-friendly and better overall. Within a week or 10 days, the Intermedia team incorporates user feedback into a usable tool within the technology they're developing. Overall, I'm very happy with how fast they implement changes.

Furthermore, it's one thing to make changes to an existing application, and it's another thing to develop a new section or a new use for the app. So far, there hasn't been anything that Intermedia hasn't been able to add to the service, and I am happy with that. The growers are also happy with how fast we're integrating their recommendations.

How did Intermedia perform from a project management standpoint?

The team stays within the budget and delivers at the agreed-upon time 99% of the time. Although there have been some delays, they've been understandable. For communication, we use Slack and WhatsApp, and we also have Google Meet conferences pretty frequently. Additionally, we use Trello and Github for project management, and the team uses the Agile methodology.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Intermedia is in a unique position; they use very well-trained resources and have very high-quality talent on the team. When I compared providers form the US, Ukraine, Pakistan, and India, Intermedia was among the three least expensive ones and the highest qualified. I would have spent double my budget with another vendor, so Intermedia is highly qualified and has a very reasonable price.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I'm very demanding, so I can always see room for improvement. Although Intermedia is well positioned, it would be helpful if they had more English-speaking team members. I can speak in Spanish, so we have no communication issues. Still, if I were an American company needing Intermedia's services, I would like all team members to speak perfect English, and some of them don't. At the same time, I can't expect that because it's asking too much.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Your project scope has to be very clearly defined. It's very important to negotiate clearly with Intermedia before starting to avoid scope creep, both from your side and theirs. This advice applies to every single supplier.

I'm the Head of Business Development of Stormtech. We develop Custom Software and we are mainly focused in Web Development, more specifically into the Logistics and Supply Chain business

We provide technological solutions for the Logistics sector and we were looking for a IT provider to develop a part of our technological platform. Artitificial intelligence was needed so we contacted Intermedia to help us. Our goal was to develop a AI based solutions to improve routing algorithms. The solution needed cover not only backend but also part of the front end with mobile apps. That’s why we decided to hire Intermedia as those are the strongest points of them.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

As i mentioned before, our requirements were related with AI and mobile development. Intermedia meet both, so that’s why we finally hire them. Their proposal was very clear and detailed. This is not something easy to find in this sector.

It was a module of our core solution. We developed together with Intermedia the routing algorithm and the interface. We started refining requirements, to get a final documentation of the requirements. Then we defined a set of sprints to develop the backend side together with the artificial intelligence experts. When the backend was advanced, we started developing the mobile apps for the front end. At the backend side we used Python and a bit of NodeJS. For the AI solution we used Tensorflow. For the mobile apps we used React Native.

The team provided was great. The customer service is perfect as you always get a response from them. After the administrative stuff, the technical staff was: 1 PM, 1 UX-UI, 1 Dev Backend, 1 Artificial Intelligence Expert, 1 React Native developer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

All deadlines were reached without any problem. The milestones were clear and defined together with all the stakeholders. I think that the correct use of Agile methodologies allows Intermedia to meet all deadlines without failures.

As I mentioned before, Intermedia implements agile methodologies, Scrum. It was very easy to work with them and all worked smoothly. We used Jira for issue tracking and they provided us a Slack premium account. I’m very happy with that.

They are very human. This could sound weird, but the custom service we received was one of the best things. The service was very good as I mentioned before, but also the people that worked with us made us feel that we were part of the same team and working at the same place.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I cannot think on something to complain. We’ll definitely work with them again.

The most impressive aspect of Intermedia is the ability to see our ideas and develop them in the exact way we wanted, even when we only provide them with a sentence of information. They always understood what we wanted and developed them in perfection.

I’m the founder and CEO of Salutiem, an app that helps medical doctors communicate with their patients avoiding the interference of insurance companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Intermedia?

I needed app development services. We had already started the work with another company that was cheaper, but they didn’t work well. As a result, we went to Intermedia with all the work that the previous company had done.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve collaborated with Intermedia to process the ideas based on the work of the previous company. However, they've created the Android and iOS app from scratch again. We’re about to launch the platform and our app is already up on Android. We hope to have the app up for iOS in a few days or weeks after we resolve some legal issues with Apple. We’re also developing new features on the app.

The app allows patients to connect with medical doctors. Customers can pay through the app the moment they make the reservation and once booked, the doctors reach out to the patients via a phone call.

We’re working with 7–8 developers, but I’m not sure if there are more people involved behind the scenes. 

How did you come to work with Intermedia?

I worked with them a few years ago on an app that didn’t work out. They took the job seriously and did very well with the project. When the app didn’t work and we had problems, they remained supportive over email. That incident was what led me to reach out to them for this second project.

We spent about $35,000.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The doctors that I’ve talked to like the app, specifically its design and function. We’ve also had bugs, but Intermedia has been able to address them really quickly. Sometimes, the team takes time to find the causes of the bugs, but they always fix them. They take their work very seriously, too. Other than that, we have no metrics to measure their impact. 

How did Intermedia perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done very well from a project management standpoint. The team has initially given us a timeline of three months, but they’ve been able to finish the development a month earlier. They’ve also given us an Android Package Kit (APK) in order to test the app, and we’ve been able to share our feedback based on that. We use phone calls, emails, and WhatsApp to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s hard to trust development companies. I’ve had a lot of problems in the past with people that didn’t do the work or didn’t complete it. Intermedia works as they say they will. They also offer advice when you have doubts about which way to go. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’ve had some differences but we've been able to talk about them and fix them. There was one person that wasn’t very clear about some issues and it caused some trouble, but that person doesn’t work with them anymore.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Intermedia is trustworthy, so talk to them because you can trust anything they tell you. Overall, I absolutely recommend them.

We hired them to device a business web client that would allow them to review performance information and best choose how to improve said performance. We have been doing this with other tools and it was messy, we wanted to have an interface where the business could enter information and get results. That is what we did.

We had this company recommended to us and one we spoke with them, we loved the way of work and the communication we had. They were quick and to the point.

We worked with excel files, and tableau to deliver the info, but sharing it was a bit of a hassle. We wanted to have a nice interface and a web app to handle the data. We had meetings twice a week for the first month to get everything right, and then once every two weeks to follow the progress.
