I'm the CTO of a software coding and development company that also provides special streamlining of IP services, cloud, and some consulting around security in DevOps.

What challenge were you trying to address with iCoderz Solutions?

We use iCoderz as an outsourced partner when we're too busy with our work. Based on the amount of staff that we have free, we outsource some tasks of our bigger projects. They help us go through our to-do lists and have delivered good quality work on tight deadlines.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They mostly do backend development and some design work. They do a lot of heavy code writing and heavy lifting on the development side. We document the architectural design specifications and they take those on, designing and developing per our specs on both backend and frontend.

There's a lot of AWS [Amazon Web Services] cloud work involved, and they also work on Xcode, MySQL, Cassandra, and anything else Android or iOS related. They also do web applications using HTML5 and PHP and have worked with Wordpress, Swift, and Laravel, which are the most common frameworks but I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

What is the team dynamic?

They have a fairly deep team that specializes in many things. They run the whole spectrum and can work on the full stack, whether it's mobile, web, or e-commerce. They always help us in a timely fashion and there's no technology that they can't help with.

How did you come to work with iCoderz Solutions?

I found them on the web when I was looking for specific skill sets. I needed a quick turnaround and they had good user reviews, so I called them and interviewed them. I liked what they had to say and they showed that they could finish the work in half the time compared to others. We ultimately hired them and things have worked out great for us.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in October 2016 and the engagement is completely ongoing. The relationship is going well; we see no sense in changing our partner.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I'm extremely satisfied and the projects have all been successful. Our tasks and batch file processing went from 24–26 hours to 45 minutes thanks to their involvement. Also, the accuracy for things like geocoding and IoT devices has improved by 75%.

We're able to onboard more clients quickly and more efficiently, and can make more changes to the client environments.

How did iCoderz Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication is done in a couple of different ways. We often set up phone calls to discuss new projects and also use online tools like Basecamp and Trello to track changes and manage projects more efficiently. We demonstrate what we want using visuals, so it's easier. We can also do markups and they can translate that into coding.

They always have a clear understanding of what we want—we speak the same language when it comes to communication. We have very few instances of things being confused. They're very seasoned and have a great project manager that aligns well with our own project management team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their talent and creativity are unique, and they've always gone above and beyond for anything that we need. I can give them a skeleton wireframe and I'll get some very creative thoughts and ideas from them, which they'll later incorporate into the development stage. I always wonder how they can impress me next.

Are there any areas they could improve?

People can always improve and with us, there's always more to do. We haven't run into any bottlenecks or problems, however, I do use other companies because there are limits to what any company can take on. I wish I could give iCoderz all the work but their time is limited.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I advise any client to be clear and upfront with what you want. They are very creative, so allow them to implement their creative skills. We thought that we were more creative, but they proved us wrong. They're very good at what they do; be patient, always.

They built the Apple and Android apps for me. They built the whole mobile app to look a bit like a notification service. You can see it on iTunes. It’s called MyWeatherReports.com.

I was looking for someone on Elance to help me build this weather app, and they were one of the candidates that applied. I liked them the best because they had a good rating, and they seemed to have a lot of customers and experience.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

It was probably $3,000 to $4,000 to build both apps.

What is the status of this engagement?

I’ve been working with them a year. It took six months to build the whole thing, but I’ve been talking to them for a year about the project.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I haven’t launched it yet, but I did do a pre-launch study, and I got a lot of good reviews about the app. I’ve had 200 people or so use it, and it received positive feedback. I got many good responses from it. It’s a good app, iCoderz made it well.

I talked with Jaydev and Ravi through Skype most of the time. I would just tell them what I wanted done, and then they would do it. Then, we would go over and check everything with them properly. If there were any things that weren’t done properly, I’d just tell them what needed to be fixed, and they fixed it up.

The response time and the communication was good. That’s why I use Skype because you can chat and get things done straight away. The quality of the work is very good as well.

iCoderz Solutions has been quite creative in their ideas for Android and iOS. We design most of the user experience elements and the user journey with screenshots and Photoshop. The database design is done in-house, but all of the front-end programming for the mobile apps are handled by iCoderz.

We found them through Elance [which is now Upwork].

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

We've spent between $10,000 and $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working with iCoderz for about two and a half years now, and they've been doing a very good job. We have one B2C [business-to-consumer] app that's already live in the app stores and is doing very well. We are also planning to launch another app for one of our football clubs on both Android and iOS next month [July 2016], and have another one slated to go out the month after that.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

Since iCoderz's work is mostly IP, I think the measurement of their success is how effectively they have translated my requirements into the apps rather than the sales themselves. From that perspective, I think they have done a very good job. Most customers of the apps are quite happy. We have received feedback and suggestions that we have taken to iCoderz, and they have been able to make every necessary change.

How did iCoderz Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

iCoderz is very good at communication. They understand what we're trying to say, and we have meetings every morning to discuss progress and timelines. They are definitely a good find. We tried other firms before them that haven't worked out, so we are happy to work with a company that communicates well and has good programmers on staff.

What distinguishes iCoderz Solutions from other providers?

First, they are a lot faster than other companies we've tried to work with on an offshore model. We had many issues with delays, but iCoderz has been delivering on time for quite some time now, which is not an easy thing to maintain. Secondly, they have a good technical team that has experience with a variety of technologies including iOS and Android.

Cost-wise, they more or less stick to our agreements at the start of the project. Usually cost is done on a monthly basis, and we work out the timelines. They are pretty close to what we agree on, give or take a few days. In IT, that's very good delivery.

Is there anything iCoderz Solutions could have improved or done differently?

They could beef their efforts up a little bit on the testing side. Occasionally, a customer will report something that iCoderz should have caught before launch. It's not major stuff, but we've had some bugs in production that could have been avoided.
