In 2024, we presented the S3 compliance solution to our largest customer. We partnered with them on an implementation, conditioned on several key enhancements to our product - namely the appointment scheduler. The scheduler had to be completely re-written because the work we designed previously was not suitable to their business needs.

What was the scope of their involvement and team dynamic?

he Huenei team has been very helpful in coding the re-designed scheduler function. The many changes were foundational. The team worked diligently to deliver a product that met the requirements. In S3's initial round of QA testing, it was learned that the issue of U.S. time zone differences was problematic. For this reason, we were unable to release the software as originally scheduled. The Huenei team listened, understood the gaps and very promptly came back to S3 with a solution. The code accommodations for U.S. time zones was delivered to us for testing in a very rapid manner. On second round of QA testing, everything passed as expected/required. Javier, Laura, Elizabeth and the entire Huenei team shows true partnership in their willingness to listen, to understand, to change direction whenever required - and to deliver results. As the relationship deepened this year - the S3 team has enjoyed working with them.

Ongoing. Additional key features are to be added in 2025 as S3 developments our roadmap under the guidance of new ownership.

The relationship improved greatly this year. A key component is having a competent, experienced functional analyst onboard who can create accurate user stories from our discussion of requirements. We really enjoy working with Laura and Elizabeth!

Team members at times work individually on tasks. The code style does not align with what S3 has established as best practice. Sometimes they work around existing S3 code. We would like better alignment with existing code and our defined best practice.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

Make sure that your team includes a functional analyst if you do not have that resource within your company. This greatly improves the process and the end result.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We got a usable first version of the software delivered to our primary (beta) customer in a timely fashion. After this first release, we better understood the need for a functional analyst, which Huenei project manager suggested and that we accepted. On a positive note, we seem to be able to communicate requirements more effectively with the functional analyst on board. On the other side, software had to be re-factored that had already been written. This cost time and money.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Some items were delivered on time. Others seemed to be delayed. We struggled to get the Huenei team to align their deployment with our established best practices. Some of the things we felt (post-release) that needed to be fixed, the team disagreed with and resisted to change. (i.e. multiple patient statuses.) This improved the longer we worked with the functional analyst.

This goes to an understanding of our service and our industry which the functional analyst had been able to better comprehend.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were eager to communicate and sought out opportunities to communicate through a daily standup. The functional analyst has done a superb job of writing user stories and documenting requirements. They've been flexible and accommodated our need to have both front end and back end programmers on this projected. As any member of their team seemed to underperform - they have proactively and timely swapped resources.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Huenei IT Services could have done differently?

The team knew up front that our small company did not have a functional analyst role. This could have been suggested at the onset and could have spared us the time (and expense) to re-factor a core piece of the compliance workflow, i.e. multiple patient statuses were programmed when what was really needed was a single status and a indication of what stage of service the patient was in (compliance or resupply.) There are still cases where we suggest changes and feel resistance to those suggestions.

We feel we have to extensively justify why we are asking for the change - when we ultimately know that it will benefit our customers or their patients. Most recently, we engaged the team in discussion where, prior to a release, items were found that were not supposed to be included in the release. Some Huenei teammates became defensive about this and we had to bring this to the attention the Huenei project manager to address.

What challenge were you trying to address with Huenei IT Services?

We needed to develop a mobile application so our customers could create their own baseplates from their provided picture and order baseplates from our inventory. We had an ecommerce website and virtual store presence on multiple platforms.  The website needed modernization to take advantage of current web technologies and visualization.  We also needed to enhance our existing mobile app to make it functional at scale.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Huenei IT Services to develop a mobile app for Android and iOS that achieved our objectives. The team built the app from scratch and a new WordPress website that connects with WooCommerce and integrates with QuickBooks. The team continues to enhance the previous mobile app to function at scale and leverage AI/ML for a better user experience.

Although Huenei IT Services didn’t develop the website from scratch, they migrated the database and website from where it was to where it is. In doing so, they changed the backend and had to redo the frontend. They did a lot of work backing it up and restoring it on the front. However, there was a problem when we tried to get it to work with the development tools already in place. Ultimately, we wound up having to redo several of the major environments.

What is the team composition?

We have about 10 teammates in total. Their positions range from web developers to project managers, including frontend designers, a CX designer, a payment and checkouts designer, two backend developers, and a database person.

How did you come to work with Huenei IT Services?

They were a referral. It was a blind contact; they reached out to a peer of mine, and that peer forwarded their name to me. Our primary contact is Javier (Software Project Manager); he’s our project manager and technical lead. Additionally, Sergio (Mobile Team Leader) is one of the top programmers.

We’ve spent between $200,000–$1 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our partnership in March 2023, and this is our second contract iteration. We had them do the first contract, and then we renewed it. That contract is coming up in September, and we’ll renew it again.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I can’t say we’ve seen an increase because we recently signed a major contract with a multinational retail company, and it has buried everything we’ve done online. We haven’t done a comparison between our online before and now. However, I can honestly say that our website is current, functional, and highly modern.

Overall, the quality of Huenei IT Services’ work is highly top-notch.

How did Huenei IT Services perform from a project management standpoint?

They meet the deadlines and stay on budget. We use WhatsApp for urgent messages, like when we have a problem or need to address something quickly. We also use emails to communicate regular status updates and Zoom for weekly calls.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Our primary contact is Javier (Software Project Manager); he’s our project manager and technical lead. Additionally, Sergio (Mobile Team Leader) is one of the top programmers.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their willingness to work with us and address changes is impressive. We’re a startup, and even though I’m not an experienced technology person, we try to get the business to express what they want, which is challenging. If they don’t know what they want, we can’t tell what they need to get across. We see a typical scenario where the customer explains one thing, it gets translated into technology, the technology comes back with results, and it’s nothing like it was intended.

We’ve gone through this and internal personnel changes, and Huenei IT Services has been with us the entire way. They’ve helped us every step of the way to get to a mature product. They didn’t understand what we were doing initially, but they’ve ultimately come to understand our business and how they can best help us achieve our goals within our timeframe.
We’ve gone through challenges of getting the business to express what they want and internal personnel changes, and Huenei IT Services have been a partner with us the entire way. They’ve helped us every step of the way to get to a mature product. They didn’t understand what we were doing initially, but they’ve ultimately come to understand our business and how they can best help us achieve our goals within our timeframe.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We are a totally US-based company, the only thing we could fault them on is that they had some challenges finding resources that spoke English well enough to be on a call with us to explain what they were doing. We started with many folks speaking Spanish because they were in Argentina. We had to have the project manager translate.
The team has matured and addressed the language barrier with some changes on their side. They’ve brought in the right resources: people who are productive and can communicate what they’re doing in a way we could all understand. Unfortunately, English is the only language for all of us at Slab Dream lab which isn’t a positive thing.
Moreover, Huenei IT Services’ team has improved their English by working with us, so it’s been an excellent exchange.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear on your objectives upfront. Also, be clear on what you don’t know about on your journey toward your objectives. As a startup, we didn’t necessarily know how we wanted to get to where we needed to be, which came with a lot of indecision. Therefore, we needed someone to manage us as well.
Overall, the best thing you can do is be open and upfront; it’ll help you achieve the common objective: completing the project on time. We needed help with the development feature builds for the SaaS product. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

When they onboarded, we generated several hundred thousand emails a week on our existing system. We needed to analyze exactly what we were sending out, the frequency of the sends, and the logic behind the sends. So, Huenei IT Services' developers built an entire machine learning model to scan and categorize our previously sent emails. 

Huenei IT Services' team is now working on a Rust-based notification microservice project written in Ruby for the customer side of our platform. There are also some Angular components. They're building a preferences microservice engine that can manage the determination of which users should receive notifications within which organization at any given point in the day. The software then sends out the corresponding notification based on the preference. 

Their team also provides some production support. Whenever our customer has an issue with the function, a member of Huenei IT Services' team will triage it by fixing the root issue.

Huenei IT Services is absolutely outstanding — their team is good at figuring out difficult challenges. They solved our existing problems within a week when they onboarded so we could migrate to the microservice they developed. We had a complicated situation we didn't know how to tackle, and Huenei IT Services created a solution to fix it.

How did Huenei IT Services perform from a project management standpoint?

Huenei IT Services delivered on time and within budget. We typically communicate through our biweekly huddles and via Slack day-to-day. We also use Jira to track enhancement and support tickets. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team is charming. Huenei IT Services' wonderful team is invested in what we're doing; they bring a lot to the table. However, their ability to adapt to feedback has impressed me the most. My team can identify what needs to be altered, and Huenei IT Services' leadership will bring on additional resources they have within their organization to resolve the issue. We see improvement within a few days of identifying changes that need to be made.

Recruiting is a challenge for them. The market is overtaxed right now, so it can take a while to add new developers when we need them.

I'd advise customers to let Huenei IT Services have control over how they function and run teams — give them some autonomy. It's also important to have open conversations about project expectations.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Huenei IT Services successfully delivered the project and is staying on retainer for further support. We launched the product to our client base, and it has been received very well. We've gone from having 100% of our applications generated manually to 25% of them processed through the software. 

How did Huenei IT Services perform from a project management standpoint?

Huenei IT Services communicated regularly through Microsoft Teams and had regular meetings with us. Whenever there was confusion or misunderstandings, they were quick to talk us through the requirements. When we needed them to, Huenei IT Services provided us with function demonstrations. Their team worked in 2–3 week sprints, following our documented requirements. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Huenei IT Services' code was excellent. We had regular software releases, which was part of our sprint-based delivery schedule — the software was good quality and improved over multiple iterations. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The product we launched was unique and needed a lot of understanding from a business perspective. I've already requested this of Huenei IT Services: they need to have more English-speaking teammates on our projects so we can talk them through the requirements.

Huenei IT Services is a very good software development company and can put together the right team to deliver software that meets the customer's needs — the quality they deliver is just as good as any in-house team.

We needed to standardize some of our processes so we contacted Huenei to develop a custom management platform that could allow us to do that.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team started off with a discovery process where we evaluated the needs of our operating areas. They then built our iOS and Android app, which had web and mobile versions. The platform’s main purpose was to standardize our processes, mainly focused on the information and documents we manage.

The project was very important because we had about a thousand operations annually, and we had a lot of employees supporting us. They used Java for the app's front- and backend, and the web app was developed using React. The platform was launched in January 2021, but we continue working with them for the project’s second phase.

We’re working with 10 people from Huenei, including a project manager, a functional developer, and a team of developers assigned for the front- and backend development as well as app development.

We didn’t work with Huenui before, but we received many good references from people about their work. We started off with a discovery project and it went very well. They also showed a great understanding of our project. On top of that, they showed great professionalism and attention during our partnership so we decided to start a new project with them.

We’ve achieved our main goal, which was to standardize our processes and improve the way we presented our clients' information. Their work’s also great, and they've always met every scheduled deadline.

How did Huenei IT Services perform from a project management standpoint?

The project has been very smooth because we don’t encounter any surprises — we always know every step involved in our partnership. Despite the challenges brought by COVID-19, we’ve had a very good collaboration. We don’t have in-person meetings, but we communicate through Zoom every two weeks. 

Additionally, we exchange emails with important information and files we need for the project. They also use apps such as Jira to keep track of the processes. Overall, they have a very efficient and agile work process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Huenei’s greatest strength is their organizational skills; they’re great at managing every step of the project. In addition, their team is very skilled and professional. Above all, they’re available 24/7 to solve any questions or issues.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, we’ve had a great experience with them. Although they didn’t offer the cheapest services, we’ve been very happy with their results.

They’re very professional, and they’ll give you great advice. They’re not cheap compared to the local market, but their team is outstanding and they are well worth it.

For what projects/services did your company hire Huenei IT Services, and what were your goals?

The project was in part a port of a legacy ASP.NET application into a Blazor version of the same. Taking opportunities to make improvements. Partway through this port, a new opportunity was identified and an additional application was built to extend the capabilities for this original legacy application.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I was looking to partner with an organization in Argentina and looked via my existing LinkedIn contacts for an off-shore provider. I had worked with one of the founders of this organization many years earlier who was contact on LinkedIn. I put out a generic 'need help' posting and he contacted me to see if they could help. I talked with a number of others, but liked the offering that was made.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

They did a conversion of a legacy application from .NET 4.8/WebForms/ASP into Blazor Server-side over .NET 5.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

4 people were assigned to the project, including a developer, a tech lead, a requirements manager who also acted as a graphic designer, and a project manager.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

This project is not specifically about measurable outcomes, it's about providing new capabilities, moving to a new technological platform in order to be ahead of the competition, and providing a richer offering to our clients.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

The team is very communicative and open to new approaches. We have periodic meetings via Teams (video) and use Slack for immediate chat and sharing of content. They use DevOps and Jira to manage and prioritize requirements.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They are positive and attentive to requirements. This is a fluid project without a hard specification. They are able to adapt and are helping me realize a new software suite with extended capabilities within an attractive and intuitive interface.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

To date, I haven't had anything that has needed improvement. I am happy with the service they are providing and have started to talk to them about other projects.

They've provided a specialized team that has assisted us with several projects.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They've completed projects using Java and have delivered services related to databases and analysis profiles.

What is the team composition?

We have been working with them for a long time, and the number of resources is different depending on the project. We have had up to 30 people, but, at the moment, we are working with 15.

How did you come to work with Huenei IT Services?

When I started working with my current employer, they were already working with Huenei, so I am not sure how exactly the company found them at first.

However, after some years, the company evaluated its IT partners, and Huenei was selected again. They are not the only company we work with though, we have other partners.

How much have you invested in them?

We've invested bout 1000–1200 Argentine pesos (approximately $20 USD) per hour, per person.

What is the status of this engagement?

I've been working with my current company since 2010, and when I started they were already working with Huenei.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have a good relationship with them, and we've had mostly positive results. In general, we're happy with them.

How Huenei IT Services perform from a project management standpoint?

We've always had staff working with us, but we manage the project. As for communications, their staff maintains a very good communication channel with us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're understanding and flexible with our requirements, and they've shown us that they're committed to our projects.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Something they could improve is how long they take to find their resources in the market. They could be more dynamic when it comes to finding replacements and new staff.
