GKMIT provided critical manpower, including QA, API developers, and UX support. They handled the testing of every integration into our payment platform from gateway and switch providers in two countries and across three currencies.

At the zenith of the project, there were at least eight GKMIT employees with a senior program manger under the helm of the CEO and founder who was also extensively involved in the project.

Program management could have been improved as there were times when we missed important deadlines due to resource constraints. There was better commitment to plan as we progressed through the project.

We wanted a react native application which can work on both iOS and Android. We had our own design team and backend team to support them to create this application. The application had to handle user data and also manage to show custom math symbols in the application.

The application is live both on app store and play store.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We used slack to communicate and zoom meetings to take updates. Even though they were in another city the process was a breeze and during the release phase they were open to more feedback.

They picked up a new technology and fitted it to our needs. They seem to have good engineers who have solved a plethora of problems which gives them the ability to explore and adapt any technology to the clients solution

For what projects/services did your company hire GKM IT Private Limited?

We asked GKMIT to provide us end to end solution. They developed a chat platform that facilitated communication between a user and owner/manager of a local shop near them. For this mobile app, website and complete back end was taken care of by GKMIT.

What were your goals for this project?

Prior to working with GKMIT, we were using a very basic android app which used javascript to append chat messages. We developed it in-house for proof of concept purpose. Once, we were clear about the necessity of the product in market, we asked GKM IT to develop our app and backend from scratch such that it can send and receive messages in real time. Moreover, our earlier prototype could handle only 50 users at max. We wanted a solution that can handle more than thousand users at any point of time.

How did you select this vendor?

GKMIT was introduced to me by one of my college seniors. We spoke to many agencies as well as freelancers, but GKMIT’s problem solving approach, easy communication and ability to quickly transform our ideas into a digital solution assured us to choose them.

We wanted a service that can enable user as well as local shops to communicate seamlessly by sending messages, sharing pictures, and location without compromising the privacy of the consumer. Jeetesh and his team customised elastic search for Gingr such that user can search any business/shop near them based on product/services offered, location or directly by its name. Our backed was written in Laravel which was extremely scalable. User experience was always given utmost importance in complete development process.

What was the team composition?

GKM IT deployed 5 people for our project, including Jeetesh. He himself monitored the complete development cycle. He was our point of contact for complete project duration. In any tech development cycle, bugs, roadblocks and occasional pivots are usual challenges. However, every person involved in the project knew his job perfectly which helped us to develop an agile solution extremely quick.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We were in talks with investors to raise our first round of funds. Our investors were impressed with the concept. However, our investors as well as businesses that have tied up with us wanted to see how can Gingr become an integral part of their daily business apart from being just a chat platform. We worked under strict timelines and pivoted quickly to bring our first robust, scalable and aesthetically good looking product. We on-boarded more than 3000 businesses in matter of just few weeks which gave confidence to our investors to fund our company.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

As I said, Jeetesh himself managed the complete development cycle. We had a quick stand-up everyday to understand the progress and what task needs to be done next. We communicated over skype. However, Jeetesh and their team were always available and just a phone call away which was very reassuring.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The most impressive part was their ability to understand our needs and quickly transform it into a solution. There were many times, when we were clueless about what exactly we wanted, but these guys helped us brainstorm to figure out a long term solution. Other good part was, we could directly reach out to almost any person in the team and discuss about the task/product. Every one was understanding and never became frustrated on the occasional pivots that we had to make.

We did not face any issue in working with them. We are completely satisfied by the solutions provided by this team.

What challenge were you trying to address with GKM IT Private Limited?

We had hired several developers to develop a cryptocurrency exchange but we weren’t happy with their timelines and deliveries. That led us to approach GKM IT for the job.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our cryptocurrency trading web app. It’s a complete platform that has numerous cryptocurrencies and bank integrations, and we also offer traditional currencies. GKM IT Private Limited delivered according to the requirements that I provided them.

We inherited the core design architecture of the application from the previous team. It was based on a product that was an open-source cryptocurrency exchange. They handled all the integrations into the bitcoin wallet, which were done on Ruby on Rails. We had to do a lot of upgrades to keep up with the bitcoin that was being upgraded quite frequently. They handled all the upgrades and protocol changes.

They’re currently working on our payout’s engine—the entire architecture and design.

There were 18 developers in total, and 12 of them were full-time. I knew exactly who to reach out to depending on what was needed.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2017 and wrapped up in February 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We ran simulations and we were really happy with their performance. We were clocking close to about 10,000 transactions per second, which exceeded our expectations —our target was 2,500 transactions a second. Everything was tested, and the code was impeccable. It was a clean code unlike what we’ve seen with any other development shops But after a year of working with them, I didn’t even have to look at their code. I had that much confidence in them.

As cryptocurrencies become increasingly illegal, we had to pivot our business model from one thing to another. Each person had their specialties—but if there was an issue, the whole team got on board. No one got siloed in their own department. If there was a problem with the BPC wallet, everyone collaborated to resolve the issue.

How did GKM IT Private Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

There was a normal standup procedure every morning, and I traveled to meet them once a month. The rest of the time, we communicated through Jira, Skype or another phone conferencing system we used.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very competent coders. I can have confidence that their product can scale and run. They also have a thought-out approach. When I say I need a new API for listing currencies, they ask the right questions and it just shows how detailed they go when they’re developing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re very intense about the testing process, which I appreciate, but it can be slightly excessive under time-constraints. I also wish they’d move to a more metropolitan area so they’re more reachable.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear with what you want before you go to them. They’re not a prototyping shop—they’ll build it for you, but they’ll ask you a lot of questions to know what they’re making.
