Giraffe Studios was tasked with developing a combined mobile and desktop app that managed personal values, goals, and task management, along with a content marketplace that included back-end authoring tools for content developers. Some core features included: Content marketplace with dynamic banners, advanced search and bookmarking features, and more. Course content to support streaming video, dynamic images, rich-text content, scheduling to calendars, bookmarking, and sharing.

Additional features allow user comments, the ability to follow authors, and click course categories to search for new courses quickly. The goals features allow users to link personal goals to personal values, along with step or task prioritization and scheduling features. Author/admin portal offers WYSIWYG course-building capabilities.

I’m one of the co-founders of a tradesperson platform. We also have an app for tradespeople, freelancers, small businesses, and more.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giraffe Studio? 

We had the idea for an application so we brought on Giraffe Studio for iOS and Android development and UI design. One of our co-founders has a strong technical skill set but we wanted to nail down the finer details, as well as benefit from Giraffe Studio’s experience.

What was the scope of their involvement?

After receiving our feature list and documentation, Giraffe Studio’s team developed our app from scratch. Video calls allowed us to sync up before each sprint and ensure that everything, from features to the design, met our requirements. They continue to provide support and improvements. 

What is the team composition?

There’s a project manager, and Giraffe Studio worked in pairs for the development — two individuals for iOS and two for Android. We also worked with a very good designer and at least two people who dealt with the backend. 

How did you come to work with Giraffe Studio? 

My partners looked into it. We searched for various companies in and around Europe. It was a painful process of getting prices and talking to each company, but Giraffe came out tops on all fronts. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around €120,000–€150,000 (approximately $141,000–$177,000 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

The project is still ongoing, and we’ve been working together since March 2019. The app is live and out there, and Giraffe continues to do maintenance. There isn’t an end in sight with them. They will be an ongoing partner.

We’re more than pleased with Giraffe’s work and quite grateful that we found them. They’re a good team. They’ve come up with great ideas as they’ve gotten into the project and learned a lot about our app. They find out exactly what we want. 

How did Giraffe Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been organized from the start. We share information and designs on various platforms, including Trello and Rocket Chat, as well as simpler forms of communication like conference calls. 

As far as hitting deadlines, it’s always been complicated. We didn’t have a set end time for the project because no one could calculate how long it would take. 

At the busiest time, we had a weekly call for 2–3 hours. Giraffe would progress that week with development and design and then we’d have another meeting to prepare for the next week. They were punctual. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Giraffe Studio’s strength is their makeup as a team. They’ve been able to deliver on all aspects of the project: design, Android development, iOS development, and more. One isn’t better than the other. They’re solid across the board and don’t have a weak point.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t find a particular area to point criticism at. Their team is squeaky clean. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

For anything to do with software or app development, make sure you’re organized. Have technical people on board from your side so that you understand what’s happening. I come from a trade background, and if I didn’t have partners in-house that are more technical than I am, then I would have been lost. 

The more information you can give them, the more you’re going to get out of them. Know what you want so that you can explain it properly to them. Then, they’ll build exactly what you want.

We made an application for android and ios. The application enables individual contact between the trainer and the client. The trainer can publish a video with exercises, diet, control the effects of work. He can also practice with an online client. The customer also receives notifications about ongoing marketing campaigns.

In the first month, we managed to achieve 200 downloads, which is a great success. We have received feedback from customers that the application is useful and very helpful.

With the aid of one application, the user has access to the largest Polish newspapers in audio format. Reportage, feuilleton, reviews, interviews, essays ready to listen thanks to a few clicks. The application is completely free of charge for the blind.

A whole team of specialists was involved in working on the application: iOS and Android developers, backend developer, graphic designer, tester and project manager.

In a few months a really good product was created. The application becomes a leader in its group. The precursory nature of the platform builds its undisputed position in the industry.
