We have had a collaborative relationship with Gera-IT from the very beginning of our organization.  They have guided us from the general concept of our original postings to the mature website we have today; researching and advising us as to the most effective ways to present the various forms of communication we added along the way.  This currently includes:  a statement of the problem that consumption of carbon fuels has caused; weekly news articles that address the status of transition to renewable energy; related scientific papers and graphical data; and solutions for reducing carbon emissions -- all of which undergo periodic updates. In addition, Gera-It developed ways to:  encourage readership through the use of social media; track the number and duration of website views on a weekly basis; and promote donations to the organization.  They are currently developing a widget to calculate carbon footprints for household energy consumption.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Gera-IT delivered a fully functioning interactive platform, NoCarbonFuel.org, and expanded its capabilities as our growth required.  NoCarbonFuel.org currently attracts around 400 unique organic visitors per month.  This metric, while modest, indicates real user engagement that is of an international nature, and establishes a solid base for future growth as climate-related issues intensify.

Management is very responsive to any request and often anticipates issues before they arise.  I particularly appreciate the iniative they take in making suggestions to enhance our platform.  Despite the many miles and timezones that separate our offices, management is careful to communicate clearly and is patient with additional requests for clarification.  Any agreedto schedules have been met and the user-friendly designs are clean and attractive.

Over the last year, the website attracted 1,500 users with an average visit duration of 4 minutes. We had 560 engagements via email campaigns, 340 contact form submissions, and the interactive map was shared 120 times within the last three months, all achieved without any marketing investments.

Introu is a software company which specialises in the freelance market. Along with the team Gera-IT built a freelancer management tool with the goal of inter grating with enterprise ERP systems. Introu managed to get to over 25,000 users and work with businesses who utilised the software for their freelance and contingent worker goals.

Gera IT were very successful in improving our technology and orchestrating our back end whilst building our V2 product suite which helped us achieve our business goals whilst dramatically improving our technology.

I’m the product manager at BioAnalyt. We’re in the food fortification space and we manufacture portable devices that measure the vitamin, mineral, and nutritional content of food and other biological substances.

What challenge were you trying to address with Gera-IT?

Over the years, we’ve supported many NGOs and governments in setting up nutritional programs. Though our devices churn out a lot of data, we were having challenges in interpreting them. That’s why we sought Gera-IT’s help.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Gera-IT developed a mobile and web-based application that can visualize the data produced by our devices. These apps will essentially act as decision-making tools, so their team organized the coding in clusters.

We had previously worked with a freelancer, so Gera-IT took what we had already developed at that point and revamped it. They also fixed some bugs and introduced a lot of new features to the tool.

I’ve worked with about 8–9 people in total. The team is made of web and mobile developers, a QA manager, a UX designer, and an account manager.

When the project first started, Gera-IT was one of the many agencies that proposed to work on it. We couldn’t take them in at the time, though, due to financial constraints. Over time, we realized that in order to ensure the sustainability of our product, we needed to work with a company and not just with freelancers, so we reached out to their team.

We invested a little over $150,000.

We started working with them in February 2021, and the project will be completed in March 2022.

They fixed all of the bugs in the system, made everything more streamlined, and ensured that we have a good foundation for further developments. 

How did Gera-IT perform from a project management standpoint?

Their turnaround time was very impressive; they finished the coding within six weeks, which allowed us to start the pilot phase last September 2021. Throughout that whole time, they were also proactively contacting and supporting us. 

We used Slack as our main tool for communication, but I also had access to their ERP and Jira. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Gera-IT really put their heart into the projects. They weren’t driven by money. They even gave us good advice on how we could sustain the project and the platform in the long run, which I really appreciated. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would’ve been good if they used layman’s terms to explain the development processes seeing as I’m not tech-savvy in those areas. I did learn a lot from them in general, so that was good.

Listen to what their team has to say because they’re professionals in their field. You can rest assured that they will give really good advice for your project.

We wanted to change the real estate market in Denmark with sharing and advertising on Facebook and a much easier realtime website than existing real estate agent had at that time.

Gera-IT was hired to help us find the right frameworks to speed up development and afterwords implementing new features in both backend and frontend.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

After interviewing 6 different outsourcing companies Gera-IT was chosen based on their pragmatic advice towards an architecture that was simpler and easier to maintain than what we had come up with ourselves.

We delivered UX and UI and together with Gera-IT, we wrote the first specification for 1.0. Gera-IT estimated and hired the needed resources to fulfil a tight deadline for the first launch. After launch Gera-IT kept the solution running without hiccups even though the site had tremendous success.

What were the terms and the value of the lease, and what percentage did Gera-IT take in commission?

Gera-IT got a fixed amount each month for a dedicated team.

We worked with a CTO, frontend and backend developer and a tester.

The website had great success from the first launch. Very few errors were found and scaling went smoothly with few or no hiccups along the way.

Being based in Kyiv the hourly wages are a tad more expensive than other parts of Ukraine but taking their quality into account it really doesn't matter.

Ultimately, the measure of success is if the client is happy with the results. My clients — the people that have hired me to help them do these projects — have been very happy with the results. The software worked as it’s supposed to and as we designed it.

The communication has been excellent, and I completely trust them with the work process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their engineers are some of the best I’ve worked with in the business. In addition to having good people skills, Gera-IT’s team is very knowledgeable and has stellar technology skills. Moreover, I totally trust their ability to build applications in Ruby on Rails — they’re experts.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I wish we had a better way to pay them. Currently, I have to wire money to them, which costs me money. With all the different payment systems that are out there, it would be great to have another way to pay that doesn’t cost me so much.

Be organized on the client side of things. Give Gera-IT the most information possible, and then let them do their jobs while trusting them with the process.

Based upon our market goals and our patent we started with Gera-IT for a full discovery of the development requirements. Our next step is to start the development with them.

I have known about Gera-IT for about 15 years. They were highly recommended to us back then by the lead technical folks at AOL. My experience with Gera-IT from them building some projects for us back then stuck with me. They were highly competent, and excellent both then and now.

Our discovery was well-documented and fully explained. Additionally, one of the best things is that your ideas have to make sense to Gera-IT or you will get talked out of them. This is been most helpful.

Our communication has been through Skype and email. The timelines were all met.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I feel like we have a true development team. Gera-IT is highly competent. I find the company to be completely honest and that they do not bill for unnecessary hours.

For our next steps, we will make sure to have everything spelled out in writing. There were a couple of times it would have been better to have things clearly defined in writing in order to avoid our miscommunication.

I’m the principal partner for a high-tech consulting firm.

What challenge were you trying to address with Gera-IT?

We had an ongoing development project to build a medical application. We needed capable engineers to bring a solution to life that we could then sell.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our solution consisted of two parts. The first was an iOS application for patients, while the other is a server-side application for care providers. The server-side application records patients’ data and allows care providers to access medical information.

Gera-IT built the mobile app in Swift and the server tool in a variety of different technologies. Because both apps need to comply with HIPAA, Gera-IT had to meet several requirements in their development.

We use a continuous development model to work with Gera-IT. The process lets us rapidly produce a prototype for both apps, but because of the speed, we do get more rough edges that need refining. We balance this by creating some practical mockups and wireframes before each sprint, and we can point to specific areas for Gera-IT to work on after their part is done.

We work with data specialists, mathematical analysts, graphic artists, web design specialists, and app developers experienced in working with iOS and XCode.

How did you come to work with Gera-IT?

One of our longtime business partners had a lot of successful experiences working with Gera-IT and recommended them to us for the work we were looking to do.

We’ve spent about $200,000.

The project started in August 2018 and is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Gera-IT’s work has met our requirements so far. The continuous development process works well for us. We’re in a testing phase and expect to have more work on enhancements for them in the future.

How did Gera-IT perform from a project management standpoint?

It depends on our time and availability. For the heavy engineering parts, we communicated with them daily. The fact that Gera-IT is off-cycle from the US because of time zone differences is a big plus. We can submit revisions during our day, and then Gera-IT will send those changes in time for us to review them the next morning. It’s been an efficient relationship.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Gera-IT gives a lot of attention to satisfying our requests. They have a high level of expertise and excellent English language skills—we can communicate with little difficulty. When it comes to continuous development, they’re very comfortable with the process. Gera-IT performs as well or better as other teams I’ve worked with in the past, both in the US and abroad.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While Gera-IT has been very quick and responsive, there have been times where their responses didn’t match the level of urgency—high or low—that we needed. That’s as much our issue as theirs, though. I’d encourage clear communication on both sides.

Any advice for potential customers?

As with any engineering team, you need to have a discussion between your users and the vendor. Gera-IT is an excellent group that understands the projects, offers relevant and deep skills, and does their part.

Gera-IT developed the site’s framework from the ground up in Ruby on Rails. They implemented new features as well. We wrote a spec of what we wanted, and the team built the new backend to our specifications.

The project lasted from 2015–2016, but Gera-IT continues to provide support services and new releases.

The site now has a robust backend and lacks significant issues and bugs. We’re moving forward with revamping the frontend based on the excellent framework that Gera-IT built.

We found it more cost-effective to provide the project management in-house, which Gera-IT happily accommodated. We used a ticketing system to keep track of new tasks and continuous progress. The project proceeded smoothly from start to finish. The team started work immediately and implemented small fixes diligently.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team was friendly as well as highly efficient and transparent; they made the collaboration seamless. Gera-IT turned around many items very quickly, kept track of every detail, and provided regular updates of their progress.

No, we were highly satisfied with their work.
