What challenge were you trying to address with Fractl?

We needed help getting our company name and the services we provide in front of many people we usually wouldn't be able to get in front of. We also needed help with link building and a more holistic digital PR approach.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Fractl provides us with link-building, content marketing, and digital PR services. They provide detailed campaigns that we give to our internal web development team to post on our blog. The campaigns also contain assets, such as infographics, that we can utilize across social media platforms. The assets they provide have color schemes that match our company colors, so everything feels like Payless Power, even though Fractl does most of the work.

Fractl has provided complimentary technical SEO services a few times due to last-minute requests on our end. When someone on our internal team can't help, Fractl steps in. They've used a tool for scraping pages and figured out which keywords should be highlighted for the campaign they're focusing on. They do a lot of research before they provide us with the campaign details.

Most of their digital PR work involves crafting timely topics, such as political campaigns, that relate to our business. For example, they've done fundraising campaigns related to Taylor Swift's touring, how much electricity she uses for her shows, and how that ties back to our company.

What is the team composition?

We communicate with 5–10 people every week. Most of those reach out for separate campaigns, and some are specific to the technical SEO side of the project. We also communicate sometimes with Kelsey, the acting Account Manager. 

How did you come to work with Fractl?

This is our second partnership with Fractl. When we began our first project a couple of years ago, we tried to find someone to assist with link building and a holistic digital PR approach. That project ended around 18 months ago, and we decided to reach out and partner again.

We've been working with them since June 2024, and our engagement lasts 12 months.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We measure our success based on the placements Fractl is getting, such as CNN, Yahoo, and Good Morning America, rather than any specific data. We've received several placements and links from Fractl from many local newspaper companies in Dallas and Fort Worth. The team creates content that is extremely attractive to high-authority sites, which puts Payless Power in front of a national audience.

It's clear that whenever the team lands us on high-priority sites, we experience a substantial 200% to 400% increase in web traffic. Their contacts across the industry, from local newspaper companies to larger-scale new sites, and getting our name out there with those companies have been substantial for us.

How did Fractl perform from a project management standpoint?

They've been highly proficient in project management, using a mix of Asana and Google Docs. The scope of work laid out at the beginning of the project is very detailed. Their weekly communication has been fantastic from start to finish; we've held meetings via Google Meet throughout the engagement to ensure everybody's on track.

They've always been on time, if not early, and what they said they would provide is fantastic. We've been very thrilled with how they handle their business and execute what they promised.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're just thrilled with the work the entire Fractl team has done on our account. In our space, it's easy to overpromise and underdeliver. Fractl has overpromised and over-delivered, which is unique in this space. It shows that their relationships across all industries benefit them and their clients.

It's impressive that they wowed us with what they promised in our first meetings, and we've been wowed the entire time. Fractl has an industry-standard profile in the digital world, which shows that they're best-in-class for what they do.

I don't have any recommendations; we've been perfectly pleased with them.

Trust what Fractl says they can do and provide. They'll do it. They've stuck to their word the entire time, and I trust what they say they'll do.

Initially, Fractl conducted a complete analysis of our content and created a strategic plan for executing and accomplishing our goals. We began working with Fractl in October 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since our first statement of work with Fractl, we've seen a 50% lift in our organic traffic, and our unique referring domains have grown by over 200. Fractl's level of analysis and reporting is great. We've seen a general increase in organic traffic, particularly for our blog and resource area, where we host all our content. We've also seen increased visibility for featured snippets, which are essential in SEO. We can now answer critical questions in our user journey directly in search. 

Additionally, we've seen an increase in our content's visibility in Google News, which has a high threshold of what qualifies as content eligible to show up in Google News. We've also seen tremendous growth in our backlink profile and domain authority. Fractl's work meets my expectations and understands the general nature of search engines. The team has helped us prioritize topics for which we've gained a lot of visibility from an organic search perspective.

Moreover, Fractl conducts robust and rigorous surveys to collect data and distill it into a story. In today's world, where users pump out content, being able to tie it back to the supporting data gives it authority and a unique perspective. Once users and publishers read the content written by Fractl and find it valuable, we find success in their work. Fractl delivers high-quality and data-rich content. 

How did Fractl perform from a project management standpoint?

Fractl is very professional in terms of delivery and communication. We have set up a Slack channel as our primary communication channel. Fractl feels like a part of our internal team.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to give a shout-out to Kristin. I'm impressed by what she's doing in the content and SEO industry with their company — I think it's groundbreaking. She's doing an innovation that excites me and seeps through the entire company's approach to content creation, SEO, and digital PR.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Fractl's data analysis skills and ability to use data to tell stories are their biggest strengths. Being able to tell a story in such a beautiful way regarding design and how they put it together really sets the team apart. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only area Fractl can improve on is increasing their bandwidth. The team has big clients, and their bandwidth is probably stretched. Fractl doesn't fall short by any measure, but I've noticed they seem pretty stretched. My only feedback is the team probably needs to expand.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Ensure you have clear objectives and goals to present to Fractl. Stay as close as possible to the data so you can share that journey and identify which content works and what success looks like. This way, both teams have something to hold each other accountable for.

We hired Fractl to execute data journalism campaigns. We hired them because we thought it would be faster to hire a third party rather than hire someone internally and train them. We were also hoping to leverage Fractl’s previous relationships with journalists. Our engagement aimed to get top-tier websites to link back to our website. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Fractl completed our data journalism campaigns and provided tracking and analytics through their proprietary reporting system. The team went out and found topics that could be of interest to journalists and created a database around those topics. We then published the information on our website.

After the campaigns ended, Fractl contacted journalists at top-tier publishers and pitched the campaigns and the data they discovered to get a feature. Fractl was responsible for creating landing pages, delivering HTML files, custom images, and anything else that went along with the campaign. Our company then chose the campaigns that we thought had the most relevance and would have the most success.

We worked with about 5–7 individuals. We collaborated most closely with the director of content marketing and the digital PR manager.

We saw an increase in website traffic by 80%; we can’t say that all of that was due to Fractl’s work, but we do think that their work contributed to it. They executed six campaigns, and one exceeded our expectations; however, they communicated early on the expectations we should have for the engagement, so we were satisfied with the services. We plan to engage with them in the future. 

How did Fractl perform from a project management standpoint?

The engagement took a little longer than expected, but that was not on Fractl’s end, and they were flexible with making that new timeline work. They did a great job with communication and were good at meeting deadlines. We had ongoing phone calls, and always communicated via email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team was very upfront with setting expectations and was highly communicative.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had to ask for some specific reporting to get more clarity around work, and it would have been nice to have that information upfront.

Go in with the expectation that not every campaign will be effective. Nothing is guaranteed because the campaigns are highly dependent on the response of journalists.

When we were looking for service providers, all our teammates looked into their network, and we gathered 5–6 candidates to whom we applied selection criteria. Fractl was one of those references. They were a recommendation by a senior colleague who knew someone who had worked with Fractl.

Our initial engagement lasted from July–December 2022. Since then, we've renewed our engagement with them for all of 2023, so our collaboration is ongoing.

Fractl is quick and flexible to change and move with us. We acknowledged our internal issues during our initial six-month contract, so we couldn't attribute much success to Fractl. One of the campaigns they created worked well and got us the desired results, but we couldn't move forward due to our internal ways of working.

Still, we see merit in all the work Fractl does. We appreciate their attitude and willingness to test and learn with us. Since the 2023 contract is ongoing, we don't have any metrics yet. 

How did Fractl perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is very efficient. They always deliver on time or ahead of time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Fractl's project management is excellent. While some third-party partners aren't that responsible with delivery, Fractl's delivery is spot-on. Their work is always well done, so we don't request many changes after they deliver. Their performance has inspired confidence in my immediate team and other teams within our company, so it was easy to renew their contract. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could report more to demonstrate success since that part was left mainly to us during the first six months. However, they may not have been able to create concrete reports due to the shifts and changes during that first period. Still, at the end of the six months, we would have liked to see a report with what they learned.

Go for Fractl — they're a great company to test and learn. Their attitude and agility enable them to test SEO strategies and make suggestions.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fractl?

We wanted to get our brand more exposure on the internet. We had decent word-of-mouth marketing, but we wanted to be associated with a broader range of more authoritative sites.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Fractl to create content for our website and acquire backlinks. Initially, I told Fractl what we were looking for and what our company does and met with their team to set goals. Our industry, IT and general technology, is broad and busy, so it’s difficult to get traffic and notoriety. Fractl pitched several ideas of content they wanted to produce for us, and we figured out what would be good for our brand and interesting enough for others to pick it up.

Fractl conducted research and surveys, then generated infographics, blogs, and reports to publish to our WordPress site, which they had access to. Then, they pitched this content to high-authority publications in the hopes of getting an exclusive feature posted, resulting in backlinks to our site. One example was a report that Fractl created about which entity gives the best advice: TikTok, AI, or an IT expert. Various technology websites and local news organizations posted about this. Fractl also created a post about a music-streaming platform. When publications requested a quote, Fractl would put one together and send it to us for our approval.

They offered a service that was a bit different, which involved coming up with a story related to our business that capitalized on a trending news topic. When the spy balloon was floating around, Fractl created a report for us about Americans’ concern for the nation’s cybersecurity. We do cybersecurity work, and the spy balloon caused fear around cybersecurity vulnerabilities, so they pitched this post to the press.

What is the team composition?

We mainly talked to Kristin (Coo-Founder & SVP of Creative) about reporting and the partnership generally. We also worked closely with Kyler (Sr Digital PR Strategist), who made sure the right publications were being contacted, and the partnership was going smoothly. Joe (Director of Content Marketing) helped design the web posts. Aditya (Data Journalism Lead) also helped put together the web content.

We spent $60,000 for a six-month engagement.

The partnership formally began in late November 2022, and our engagement ended in May 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

With Fractl’s help, we gained over 100 new backlinks, which was an impressive metric. Our domain authority for our website rose by 1–2 points. We also saw an improvement in organic and general site traffic. We were really happy with the results and the backlinks.

Fractl asked the right questions and had good relationships with many publications, which was a huge advantage. It was hard to get the attention of publications, so Fractl’s connections were helpful. Their post about TikTok, AI, and IT experts was good for our brand and generated a lot of buzz and high-authority backlinks. Fractl’s content got us mentioned in PCMag and Yahoo Finance.

How did the company perform from a project management standpoint?

The team was really communicative and made sure the partnership went smoothly and was on track. We almost always communicated via email, which we told them was the best method when they asked us. We also met over Zoom 2–3 times. 

They used a Google Sheets tracker to manage the project, which was different than our usual Asana system but worked fine.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One of their biggest strengths was conducting surveys and finding buzzworthy data. We didn’t have a data science team, so we lacked the bandwidth to do this. Fractl conducted research and pitched it really well to legitimate, high-authority publications, which can be tough.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I could’ve used more communication at the beginning of the engagement to let me know how the content production was going. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I’d recommend giving Fractl as much information as you can when crafting the ideas to pitch. Also, give Fractl the space to be creative. There were some posts that I wasn’t sure would do well, but I trusted Fractl, and they did well. It’s also important to be agile with Fractl’s communication and respond quickly when they need you to.

From here, they created graphics, charts, and a report. Once that was ready, they would publish the article on our WordPress site. When the article was live, they advertised it and did marketing to get links back to our website. They posted about 20 featured articles.

For each article they published, Fractl got an average of 10 backlinks with a domain authority (DA) average score of 40. Overall, they met our expectations.

They were very good at project management, meeting deadlines, staying on budget, and communication. We communicated via video chats, emails, and phone calls, and we used Google Docs and Google Sheets as project management tools. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Fractl was very professional, and their data research, studies, and graphics were all excellent.

They could have built more links, and the links should have had a higher DA score.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The partnership kicked off when we gave Fractl our website and brief information. Fractl now helps us create digital PR efforts for our customers; our PR projects are meant to generate organic backlinks to our site. They analyze topics that will be attractive to journalists and bring us ideas that we discuss and provide input on.

Once we have the final idea, Fractl executes it. They conduct surveys, create articles, infographics, and everything related to the finalized ideas. Once the article is done, we publish it on our site, and they conduct outreach to acquire backlinks.

I've been in discussions with different people from their company, but the account manager is my main point of contact.

We've done more than 10 projects with them, and each project was at least $10,000, for a total of $100,000.

Usually, we measure the results by the traffic we receive on the articles that Fractl generates. Specifically, our KPI is the number of backlinks we're acquiring — we've seen significant traffic increases.

Fractl is good at meeting deadlines. However, communication is a 4 out of 5 because, sometimes, they're slow to respond. Our communication is via emails and phone calls, and Fractl provides reports that they then present on. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They bring good ideas every time we have brainstorming discussions.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Last year, I felt the team wasn't large enough for the project we wanted to execute, but they've made changes this year. We're going to give them time to expand their resource pool. They're also planning ahead, increasing communication to improve the partnership.
