We needed to design and develop a completely new website to modernize our digital presence and better support our long-term institutional goals. What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We successfully launched a completely redesigned website with a clearer information architecture, improved navigation, responsive design, and a more streamlined CMS. We consolidated and reorganized a significant amount of institutional content, improved the presentation of our academic programs, admissions information, giving opportunities, and news and media, and implemented stronger SEO foundations across the site. Moreover, the new website gives our team significantly greater flexibility to manage and update content internally. Since the site has only recently launched, we’re still gathering data on longer-term outcomes such as organic search performance, user engagement, admissions inquiries, and online giving. However, everyone is extremely happy with the new website, and I haven’t received any negative feedback!

The project management was highly technical and pragmatic. They kept the development scope locked and tightly integrated into our internal engineering workflow (Jira sprints, Slack communication, and technical discussions). All milestones were delivered on time within the requested 6-month window. Tech syncs were mostly asynchronous via GitHub PR reviews, allowing the team to remain highly responsive to technical blockers without adding administrative overhead.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their engineering baseline and complete technical independence. There was zero hand-holding required during the entire engagement. Every developer they assigned was a self-sufficient senior engineer who understood complex information architecture, type safety, and performance profiling. They acted as true architectural peers rather than just execution resources.

Are there any areas for improvement or something FocusReactive could have done differently?

The only friction point was resource scaling. Mid-way through the project, we needed to expand our scope and add two developers to accelerate a secondary integration. Since FocusReactive maintains a very high engineering bar and avoids keeping an idle bench of unallocated developers, onboarding new team members took about a month. If you anticipate needing additional capacity, it is best to align on those requirements with them well in advance.

The site speed. We had ambitious performance targets, and FocusReactive genuinely delivered — the final product loads exceptionally fast and scored excellently on Core Web Vitals. Beyond the numbers, what impressed us was their ability to implement our Figma designs with pixel-level accuracy while also suggesting meaningful technical improvements along the way.

Development was tracked through Trello, with tasks broken down by sprint. We had a shared board that gave us clear visibility into what was in progress, in review, and done at any given time. It was simple but effective — we never felt lost in the process.

Day-to-day communication happened in Slack — fast, async, and always responsive. Figma was our shared source of truth for design handoff and feedback. Notion was used for documentation, decisions, and meeting notes. We had regular sync calls to review progress and align on priorities. Overall, the communication and project management felt very structured without being bureaucratic. Everything was delivered on time every time.

At the start of the project, the onboarding and initial scoping phase took a bit longer than we’d hoped — some back-and-forth on estimates and technical decisions. Nothing critical, and it smoothed out quickly, but slightly faster project kickoff would be welcome next time.
