GIPPCC is a non-for-profit that works to advocate for the needs of children with chronic, complex, and life-limiting illness. We are a statewide coalition that advocates for quality care and bereavement support for families and the teams that care for them. I’m the executive director of the organization.

What challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

We needed a complete website rebuild.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our website from scratch. I believe it’s a WordPress site and we wanted it to be user-friendly and easy to update. We had quite a few links we needed and other uploads connected to the website. We also wanted to link our newsletter, a blog, and we also receive donations and payments for educational events through the site.

What is the team dynamic?

I had a main point of contact, but I had contact with four different people at different times walking us through some of the decisions and content. I don’t know what individuals were helping on the backend. I don’t have a lot of technical knowledge, but the team held my hand through the whole process.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

It was a personal referral. The owner and his team were very accessible so it was an easy decision to work with them. 

How much have you invested with them?

We have spent between $8,000 and $9,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March and ended in June.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our organization is much more visible now.  Given the difficulty of the work we do, we really needed a site that was family friendly. They did a great job of capturing images that were appealing and yet spoke to the mission of our work. It also has made our educational events so much easier. We’ve been able to facilitate registrations and payment directly through the website.  Our distribution list as probably doubled since the new website went live.

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. They were really good at explaining the critical decisions that I needed to make. They involved me where I needed to be involved, but took action on the details that wouldn’t impact me. They were very patient with me, as we had a lot of information to upload. I found them to be patient as we worked to develop the content and the images. We communicated through Zoom conferencing and emails. I always appreciated the live video conferencing because I’m a face to face person. It was nice to be able to have more personal contact with them as we went through the development of the website.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have good customer service and have been really responsive. They really had to train and teach myself and my team and were so patient with us and continued to be responsive as we’ve had other challenges in learning the website. They continue to be really accessible. They also listened to my vision and seemed to be able to bring that in the development of our website.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Make sure the interactive nature of your website interfaces with social media. It’s important to have current information.

I'm the marketing and social media coordinator for Interior Construction Group, Inc., a general contractor in the Chicago area.

What challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

We wanted to update our 10-year-old website, improving overall design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided initial ideas while ePageCity was responsible for implementation, supplying sketches and wireframes. While much of the content from our previous site remained relevant, they helped streamline our messaging.

Our number one priority was our online portfolio. ePageCity was able to give this section a crisp, clean look. The gallery allows clients and potential clients to view our previous projects and gain a better understanding of our abilities.

They also built a limited-access portal that lets clients view photos and documents related to their project and check scheduling updates.

What is the team dynamic?

We worked directly with a project manager and a content specialist. They served as liaisons between us and their entire company.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

They were the natural choice since they designed our original website, but they also stood out among the other vendors we considered for the update. We had an in-person interview with ePageCity’s president and found him very personable and helpful.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began the redesign in October 2016 and the project spanned seven months. They could have completed the job sooner, but we were very exacting clients and wanted to make sure every aspect was perfect.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I don’t have exact metrics, but the limited-access portal has made it easy to communicate with our clients.

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

Our project manager provided regular updates and made sure we met every deadline. We used direct screen sharing to go over project details on a weekly basis.

If I had any questions, the project manager was always available through email and quick to respond.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Even though the project is finished, they continue to make any changes we request, free of cost. They're also very responsive. Overall, their customer service is absolutely wonderful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing comes to mind. We had a great experience and I highly recommend them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Doing our own research beforehand helped. We had a concept in mind when the project began, which helped us get started faster.

I’m the managing director for The Armageddon Group, a Chicago-based trade show security provider.

What challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

We wanted to modernize our company by building a website to establish our digital presence. While I initially toyed with the idea of creating a site myself through a web development platform, I quickly realized that we needed professional help.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We outlined the project together and then they assigned a team. They provided a wide variety of frameworks to choose from, including custom-build options, and asked for our input on design and mechanics. They offered to produce content, but we decided to provide that ourselves.

While we originally intended to build a very basic site to give clients a way of contacting us, we decided to include features that would set us apart from competitors. ePageCity integrated a form and payment function that allows clients to specify the services required and pay online. These payments are processed through a secure third-party.

They also created a targeted email system to replace our simple AOL address.

What is the team dynamic?

We had initial contact with Alex [Young, Chief Strategist, ePageCity], and he put together a team that included Erin [Horan, Production Manager, ePageCity] and Kate Petronsky [Content Specialist, ePageCity.] Jessica Gorst [Account Manager, ePageCity] handled our email and billing functionalities.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

We searched for web developers based on a few recommendations and narrowed it down to three. While the other two companies seemed capable and actually offered lower rates, we were impressed by ePageCity’s dedication and professionalism. Alex was willing to meet at our office, and he asked detailed questions about our needs without pushing a hard sell. We felt comfortable working with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $8,000 on the website, plus we pay a monthly fee for the email service.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in the fall of 2015 and the website launched at the end of 2016. It could have been accomplished much sooner, but there were delays and conflicting priorities on our end.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We now steadily receive three or four contact submissions directly from the website each week, which is exactly what we hoped to accomplish. Our clients also report that they love the new system, especially the online payment function.

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

They were professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. If I contacted them through phone or email, I received an almost instantaneous response. Their project manager also worked to keep the project moving, gently but persistently pushing us whenever there were lags on our end. We needed this nudge sometimes, and I truly appreciated it.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re a small company with no IT department, so we were thankful that ePageCity was able to guide us through unfamiliar terrain. They also provided detailed instructions so that we can make any minor modifications to the site in-house.

Kate follows up every so often with new marketing and functionality possibilities we could explore, and we may do so in the future. I would contact them without hesitation if we ever decide to expand our digital presence.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I'm a very critical person and honest when I answer surveys because I think it's important for growth, but I honestly can't think of any areas for improvement.

I’m the district manager of Grandwood Park Park District, which offers recreational activities and events to the local community.

What challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

We wanted to reach out to our community online and let them know about our services, programs, and events. Since our original website was created 6–7 years ago, we wanted a cleaner and more modern look. Our original website was very bright—because we’re a park district, it had a lot of green and yellow.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

This was our second engagement with them. For this round, we completely redid the design of the homepage and all of the inside pages. Initially, we gave input about the color scheme and how much information we wanted on our homepage. After looking at lots of sample websites, we came up with ideas for call to action buttons. They helped us decide if we wanted buttons, columns, squares, or photos.

They made the website responsive to different screens like laptops, tablets, and cell phones. They also added upgrades and made our website more user-friendly. For example, they corrected some mistakes in the original website to make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. We also redesigned the way our programs are listed on the website and how they are paid for online. We now have an extra screen to complete whenever we create a new page, making it easier for search engines to find us. They integrated the website with authorize.net.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

I wasn’t here during the selection process. I’m assuming because we are a government entity, we were required to get more than 1 bid if we expected to pass a certain dollar amount. I’m not exactly sure what it cost originally, but I would imagine they went out for a bid and ePageCity was ultimately chosen.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in 2016, and the project lasted until September 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We do Google Analytics, but we’ve only had 1 month of information so it’s too new for comparisons. So far, we have had nothing but positive feedback. Everybody loves the new design. It is so much cleaner and easier to read since you’re not distracted looking at all the flowers and trees around the edges. I’ve also heard that it’s simpler to navigate. The homepage now has more call to action buttons that take you directly to our most popular areas like our rentals, our preschool, and the civic association.

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was very good. They always seemed to be organized and on top of everything on their end.

They kept us on task, which was not an easy thing to do since we’re a very small district. Only a few people worked on this so when something came up, the website project got pushed behind. They were always reminding us very nicely and asking how things were going.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I enjoyed their patience and professionalism. They helped us through the process and were available to answer questions. As much as possible, they helped us stay up-to-date on the technology given our platform and budget. They are the nicest people—really sweet and easy to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While it would’ve been nice to have a face-to-face meeting during the design phase, I’m not sure if it would’ve made a difference. If they have a difficult concept for people to understand, a face-to-face meeting could help.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I highly recommend that you spend a lot of time going from website to website. Make a list of things that you like about them such as how to navigate as well as the look and the feel of it. I spent a lot of time doing that during the process when they recommended it to us. If I had done that ahead of time, some of the decisions would have been easier for me.

My business is called I am Wickless. I’m the owner and an independent consultant.

What challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

At one point, we had a lot of personal issues going on in our family, so I couldn’t maintain my website. My website design was less than stellar and Google had done an algorithm change that left me in the dust. I looked through my analytics and saw that my ratings were dropping. I needed somebody to redesign my website and then provide the SEO to get it up and running again. It was not something that I could take on by myself. I’ve actually been blogging for about 12 years, so it wasn’t something new. It was just I needed somebody that really knew the ins and outs of WordPress. I’m really good with changing images and providing the content. But the actual design, that’s not something that I do.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, ePageCity showed me different designs that I could pick from. I picked my favorite, one that would work for the format I needed, and then we just went from there. I provided the content and then they designed all of the elements and the setup. When we started using the website, I realized it wasn’t quite what we needed. We had to go in and restructure the site 2 or 3 times. When we set up this design, they gave me 3 trials. Our contract provided an opportunity to tweak without additional fees, which was nice. If there are changes that need to be done, then Diana goes in and make those changes. She does and they don’t charge me anything for them. If it’s a little more time-consuming, there might be a small fee, depending on the issue. They also provided the links to social media, which was something that I had to pay for separately. If I wanted them to pin content or if I wanted to be able to post on Facebook, ePageCity charged extra. That was fine. I think that was reasonable.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

I did a search and came up with ePageCity. I reached out to them and we talked for quite a while on what they could provide for me and my business. It was a big undertaking, but that was definitely something that I understood. Even though they are based in Chicago and I’m in the Cincinnati area, I felt they were a good fit after talking with them. They made me feel very comfortable and excited. My husband and I both were on the call. We both felt very confident in what they were doing and what their skills were, so we went ahead and hired ePageCity.

How much have you invested with ePageCity?

When all was said and done, the design itself cost about $10,000. I pay an additional monthly fee for the SEO. There’s still a lot more work to be done, but I went down a bit on what we could afford for SEO.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with ePageCity in January 2014. The project was completed towards the end of May 2014. They are still working with me on SEO and any changes that I need.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The new design has been great and the SEO has definitely been helpful in getting my business found. Before, it wasn’t ranking at all; it was in the negative. Now it’s pulling up and I’m getting some online orders. There’s still a lot of work on my end for content and things like that, but ePageCity is helping me. They would say, “Here are some ideas based on research we’ve done for businesses like yours. You might want to think about this content in the near future.”

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very responsive. Anytime I send them an email, they’re really good about getting back to me. We are actually in touch quite a bit. We talk at least once a month and Diana gives me an analytic report. We talk about any issues, what the future looks like for where we’re going, and what we need to be working on. She gives me ideas on things that I should post about to help boost my rankings. They kept me in the loop of everything that was going on. Even though I felt like it was taking a while, I know I’m not their only client. I’ve been very happy with their communication from the start of the project until now.

What did you find most impressive about ePageCity?

I haven’t really done a whole lot of research on the other companies. When I originally did the search online, ePageCity’s website came up first. If their website was coming up first, then they must know what they’re doing. I feel like they were a good fit right from the beginning. I didn’t really do a whole lot of research after I talked to them.

Are there any areas ePageCity could improve?

I’ve spent the last 2 weeks going in and fixing some of the links that were not working. I wasn’t getting the sales that I should be getting. However, I don’t know if it’s their responsibility to make sure that the links are working. Their project task is to do the SEO and make sure that my web design is functional, so I think that was more on my end. I wish that if they had clicked on a link, they could have told me, “Hey, FYI, your links aren’t working.” It was an oversight on their part and on mine.

ePageCity was one of six proposals I solicited, based on referrals from trusted friends. ePageCity sold me in the interview, helping me imagine the type of website I wanted.

It was $25,000.

When was the project completed?

It ended in July 2015.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

They completed the website, and we are satisfied with the final project. ePageCity performed wonderfully. It was a great working relationship.

What distinguishes ePageCity from other providers?

The excellent vision and expertise of the staff set ePageCity apart from the competitors.

In hindsight, are there areas in which they could improve or things you might do differently?

We completed this project on budget. I think further clarity at the beginning about ePageCity's billing and cost practices would have helped. I felt surprised at times that things I wanted cost extra. Often, I would have to remind the ePageCity team – by sending old emails with the proof – that we did indeed discuss that item in the planning process. The response was always positive, but I feel like I shouldn't have to be the one on top of that.

Our website had been initially created by a family member, which over time, led to some problems. We wanted to have more control over what we posted on the site, preferably being able to edit it ourselves. We need to make frequent changes depending on the season.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

My parents found them.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The mobile optimization project was priced separately from the other work and was around $1,500. We also pay ePageCity a monthly fee that amounts to less than $10,000 per year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in 2005. It’s an ongoing relationship. Last year, ePageCity optimized our website for mobile devices.

Could you share any statistics, metrics or other feedback from this engagement?

A few things stand out in ePageCity's work. First, the website offers excellent picture quality. We’re able to post many images on our website, and they’re easy to see, especially with the mobile retrofitting. Customers can find what they’re looking for quickly.

Second, we’re able to change weekly specials and seasonal items quite easily. This is important to us and, again, it makes it easy for customers to access this information.

The site is well organized, displays large images, and was formatted to be easily edited.

What distinguishes ePageCity from other providers?

They’re helpful with any questions we might have. We can simply send them an email and receive a response quickly.

ePageCity also quickly creates any new features we might need. For example, a couple of sections on our site feature a lot of pictures of cakes. They created a photo gallery setup specifically for us. Users can click on thumbnails and see enlarged versions. This is not something I often see on other bakery websites. I appreciated that ePageCity took the time to make a custom solution for us.

Is there anything ePageCity could have improved or done differently?

The only issue we’ve ever come across is around text editing, which it’s not something ePageCity has control over.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a B2B publishing company. Our magazine is called Cutting Tool Engineering. We have around 60,000 subscribers throughout the US and across the world. Our audience is comprised of manufacturing professionals in industries ranging from automotive to aerospace—anything involving metal cutting. We have an associated website, ctemag.com. In addition to all the articles we publish in the magazine, the site features video reports, tutorials, and other video snippets. We try to show our audience how to solve metal cutting problems.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with ePageCity?

Our original website was not much more than a portal for posting PDFs. In 2007, we started making changes, and two years later, we rolled out a new design. An independent contractor built the site from scratch using PHP. It was fine for its time, and we kept using it up until the end of 2015.

At the beginning of 2015, we started looking for someone who could bring our page up to speed with the modern Internet. We were hurting in the SEO area. Search engines were overlooking us, mainly because of our antiquated back-end.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

ePageCity helped come up with a design that looks professional but also supports advertising. Our sales are going better than ever. I can’t say exactly how much of this success is due to the new design, and how much is due to the economy in general, but the advertisers have given us positive feedback. A lot of the complaints we were getting about the old site came from those advertisers. They didn’t want to advertise on a site that looked like a Christmas tree.

Currently, we’re planning to have a training session with our staff for using the new website.

How did you come to work with ePageCity?

We looked at a number of different companies in Chicago and across the region. ePageCity was not the cheapest solution, but they showed real interest in the project right from the beginning of the bidding process and the fact-finding stage. They seemed to be the best fit for what we needed. We couldn’t take a cookie-cutter approach to the website. We have too many systems in place, including a buyer’s guide, which includes a company contacts database connected to various products. We always needed an integrated website, but we needed it to become more integrated as time passed.

A lot of the other companies we considered had nice options, but also required that we conform to their system. ePageCity brought a different approach and were willing to build a system around what we needed. They did exactly what they promised. I’m really pleased with what they ended up doing for us.

The total development cost was $130,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with ePageCity in April of 2015. The website was launched in December of that year. We’re currently planning on using their SEO services.

Could you share any statistics, metrics or other feedback from this engagement?

The site is still fairly new, but we certainly haven’t lost traffic since the transition. We’re counting visits more accurately and have seen much better trending since the site launched in December.

We’ve decided to migrate only the articles from 2010 onwards to the new site. There are far fewer pages available at the moment, but we’re still beating our past monthly totals. Google likes our current presentation. We used to have a very convoluted way of delivering feature articles and creating temporary pages. That no longer happens. Doing a Google search will yield good results for our site. We will also start using SEO services from ePageCity. This is the first site we’ve had for which such an investment makes sense.

I am a journalist by trade and had an early interest in the Internet. As such, I’ve accumulated a lot of practical knowledge on HTML, MySQL databases, and other backend elements. The only reason our old website was able to function as it did was because I participated actively in its maintenance. I kept spending too much time on the backend of the website when I should have been involved in the creative process. This was all done so we could continue to have advertising on the site. On the new website, I’m still spending a lot of time, but it’s all editorial. My only backend interaction is for posting articles. I’ve learned that the system ePageCity built has stripped out all the extraneous work that had to be done to maintain each page’s style.

Although our old website included a content management system, it didn’t act as such and required constant maintenance. Our interaction with the new site is just the opposite, and we’re really able to use it as a content management system.

How did ePageCity perform from a project management standpoint?

Although no agency is perfect, ePageCity stayed in touch with us every step of the way and responded whenever we had any concerns or questions. Selecting a company to build your website is always a gamble, particularly when you already have a successful site in terms of audience and advertising.

Our site has to pay for itself. Because we’re a B2B magazine, we have to make money by selling advertising. We couldn’t just redesign it and do away with the functionality of the old website. ePageCity managed to bring everything together and tone down the biggest issue we had with our old website—the fact that its ads made it look like a Christmas tree.

What distinguishes ePageCity from other providers?

They have a creative team and an understanding of our content matter. ePageCity has adapted its skillsets to fit our needs. The agency did not just throw a cookie-cutter solution at us, only later figuring out how we would fit into it.

The development couldn’t have gone as smoothly if they hadn’t understood the content we had on our old site. It still amazes me that ePageCity got our buyer’s guide exactly right, actually improving it from the old version.

They listened to our requests and figured out how they would make things work. They only came back to me in order to verify certain decisions as they were building out the framework.

Can you give a brief description of your company and your role there?

We sell condos. We work with the developer who builds the buildings, and then we go in and sell them. I am in charge of the marketing and brand management.

They do all of our websites. The most recent one that we did with them is for one of our new properties that we are building. They just created a website for us. They also have done at least seven other websites with us, too.

The websites are for our products; our different buildings. Our company has one with them as well. They’re informational websites.

SOLUTION

Does the scope of ePageCity’s work include design, development, training, and support for the websites?

Yes. They handle all of that. They also provide advice on how to make the site more optimized [for search]. We have another company that we use in-house that does some of that as well.

Why did you select ePageCity to work with in the first place?

We’ve been working with them for a while. Before I got here, they were already working with ePageCity. I work with Alison, and she’s really great at responding back to me right away with questions. When we have a new product or something that needs to be changed within the product, they’re really good at responding and getting a turnaround for us. That’s probably mainly why we keep going back to them.

Can you give a sense of the size of the project, either in a cost figure or a personnel work-hour figure?

On average, it would probably be around $20,000 per project.

We had a product website go live in March of this year [2014].

In terms of the results, are there any metrics or any qualitative feedback that you can share to indicate the effectiveness of their work?

All the time, people are finding out about us through our website. The presence that we have online could be attributed to them. The majority of our traffic comes from organic searches. It is a very appealing website. I think it keeps people coming back for sure. I don’t have the figures in front of me, but we definitely have a lot of repeat people coming back.

How would you describe their performance?

They do a good job at being available. If we ever encounter any issues or if we don’t like the look of something and we want to change it, they work as a team. It’s really great. Alison is our main person, but if we ever need to bring in their designers [or others], they do a really good job at scheduling meetings and getting things moving forward, which is really important. ePageCity is very responsive to our needs. Whenever we need something, they’re always available.

Is there any area that you think that they could improve on or that you would do differently?

I don’t think so. Our business is always changing. I think they do a very good job at keeping up with it. There are a lot of elements to what we do. They do a really good job at staying on top of everything.
