What challenge were you trying to address with Emerald Studio?

We used to work in the old fashion way, using only WhatsApp. We contacted Emerald to help us develop a software platform to automate our processes and make everything easier. Our teams ultimately collaborated on a mobile app development project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Emerald has developed a mobile app for Android and iOS devices. They’ve also built our website.

For features, the app is like Uber but only provides delivery services. Our users can request deliveries and track their packages. Our delivery people handle the delivery, and they take photos to show they finished the delivery.

We work directly with a project manager.

How did you come to work with Emerald Studio?

We found Emerald on Google. Our team visited them to talk about our business idea. After that, they sent a proposal; we liked their ideas, so we started moving forward with the engagement. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Emerald in March 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to temporarily suspend the project. We started again recently — they finished the app but continue to provide technical support for us, so this is an ongoing collaboration.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app is highly functional, which is great. We’ve had about 5,000 downloads so far; our users truly like it. 

How did Emerald Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Emerald is great at project management. They’ve assigned a project manager to us, so we have a direct communication channel with them. We mainly use WhatsApp and email to communicate. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their customer service and ability to fulfill the needs of their clients are impressive. I’ve had other experiences, and it usually takes a while to get a response from other teams — this isn’t the case with Emerald. They’re always available and ready to address any requirement we might have.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. Emerald met all of our expectations. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They do an excellent job. Their service is outstanding, so my advice is to work with them.

We hired Emerald Studio for their web and mobile application development services. Their team built our website in the past, but now we wanted to update it and make it more accessible. For the app, we were also looking to update the graphics and improve its performance.

Emerald Studio has implemented updates and improvements on our website and mobile application. They’ve also integrated a CMS system using Joomla and built a microsite.

I got to know them when I was working at another company about 10 years ago. For this project, we usually ask for quotations and proposals from three different companies. I invited Emerald to this process, and the management found their offer to be the best fit for our needs.

The website and the app have already been published and are working pretty well.

How did Emerald Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve never had any issues with them in this regard. They’ve stuck to the established deadlines, and everything has been running smoothly. We manage the project using a work calendar and set deadlines and follow-up meetings together.

We communicate using email, phone calls, in-person meetings, and Slack. They also implemented a ticketing system for handling tasks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with their innovativeness and ability to provide great advice.

Our old site was outdated, so we wanted to design and develop a new website.

Emerald Studio did web design and development for us. The platform was not very complex; it was mostly an information website.

We started by taking information from our old site and updating it to send it to Emerald's team, which they re-designed completely, including the code.

We spent about $2.8 million Colombian pesos (approximately $650 USD).

We worked together from September 2021—June 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In less than 20 days after we released the new website, our call center started receiving numerous calls — we could see results very quickly.

How did Emerald Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great with project management, and we're very happy with how they handled everything — it was very clear and easy to work with them. As soon as we sent them the required information, their team started working immediately to send sketches, submit them for review, and make improvements within deadlines.

In terms of communication, we used Zoom, WhatsApp, in-person meetings, etc.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were clear from the beginning, which was helpful for us because we didn't have experience in website development. We tended to have certain ideas without being aware of all the implications, but they provided great guidance for us. Also, they were very transparent in every step of the process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At some point, we did have some suggestions in terms of design, but we talked to them, and they were very flexible and offered different options to solve that.

Have all the information you need before starting the project; otherwise, you might cause delays. Also, have an idea of where you want to go with your website.

We hired Emerald to fully design the website for a biology research laboratory located in Seattle. The website was purely informational and included a Home page and five additional sections.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We searched online for providers and we selected Emerald due to the design of past customers that they showed and the type of companies they worked for.

Basically, we needed to take the information we had previously gathered and publish it on a website. We did not require a specific technology. It was an informational website and perhaps the most advanced part was keeping the Twitter feed updated on the website.

I believe it was around 4, although I don't recall exactly. There was a woman with whom we maintained frequent contact, as well as two men who made up the technical team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

For us, the most significant outcome was the creation of the Lab's own website. Unfortunately, we did not have a means of measuring the website's traffic or the size of the audience reached.

We frequently had meetings to discuss our project. Emerald demonstrated a keen understanding of our goals and was highly attentive in addressing the specific details we requested.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They provided quick responses and direct, personalized attention. They were always demonstrating a willingness to assist us.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

In my opinion, working on the design platform was somewhat challenging, despite the good training provided by the team. The platform itself is not as user-friendly as other options like Wix. Additionally, we encountered some bugs in the Twitter feed.

With his proposal, the most ambitious project of the company in the last five years was launched, where a complete update of the website was made to give it a new image and leave the site in a newer content manager such as joomla.

The project started in 2016, the page was in an old and unfriendly CMS with the web, it was also not responsive, Emerald participated with more companies and was chosen for its trajectory in the market and its innovative proposal. Work was done on several deliveries according to the site worked on, on mockus to later implement them, it was developed in joomla.

A group of engineers (approximately 4 people), led by the CEO.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project lasted a little longer than proposed due to server compatibility issues, but the Emerald team was always ready to collaborate, the relationship remains cordial and after more than six years we continue to be in contact for different project updates, as is currently the case. that we are working on updating Joomla.

Sometimes there was a delay with adjustments and communication became wasteful, but times can be coordinated with the emerald team and good results can be achieved.

Dealing with the client, they are friendly and worked as a team to provide a good service.

Sometimes you had to press for adjustments that are simple, perhaps improve in this aspect.

The communication with the project manager was easy, everytime I need her, she contacted me as soon as she could. The project was delayed few months due to some errors they found

By the time I met Emerald´s project manager and CEO they understood clearly my need. They have proposed the best for my business, considering costs and time.

We had to modify some features that had some errors instead of find the right solution
