We engaged Jives Media to manage our Google Ads campaigns with the goal of increasing conversions and driving revenue for our business. Their scope of work included conducting market analysis, competitive research, and campaign management, including bid strategy adjustments, keyword optimisation, and landing page recommendations. They were also responsible for setting up tracking and providing ongoing performance insights to refine our advertising strategy. The key deliverables were a fully managed Google Ads account, performance reports, and strategic recommendations to improve campaign results specifically the volume of bookings and leads.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Unfortunately, there were no measurable outcomes that demonstrated progress or success during our time with Jives Media. Despite paying $4,700 per month, no significant changes were made to our Google Ads account, and the recommendations provided often conflicted with our business goals. Key deliverables, such as proper bid strategy adjustments and landing page optimisations, were not understood and recommendations provided were not alligned with our goals.

For example, we made it explicitly clear that our primary goal was to increase the number of bookings in our diary via Calendly. However, when we received Jives Media’s landing page recommendations, not only were they focused on desktop optimisation (despite 95% of our traffic being from mobile), but they also proposed changes aimed at generating more 'leads' rather than 'bookings.' This was despite our clear communication that leads were not our main objective.

Additionally, the lack of proactive communication and delayed responses further hindered any potential for progress.

Jives Media’s project management was poor and lacked the responsiveness we expected as a new client. From the start, communication was slow, with several emails going unanswered for days, even when urgent concerns were raised. This left us feeling undervalued and unsupported, particularly given the high cost of their services.

When it came to deliverables, their performance was equally disappointing. Despite paying for a fully managed Google Ads service, no significant changes were ever made to our account. Key deliverables, such as market analysis and strategic recommendations, were either delayed or incomplete. For instance, we were asked to provide competitor data and revenue insights, even though this information was readily available in our Google Ads account, which they had full access to. This showed a lack of initiative and poor project oversight.

Additionally, during calls, the individuals who were supposed to be managing our account contributed very little. The lack of input from these team members made it difficult to trust that our account was being properly managed. The strategy we eventually received came from someone who barely spoke during these meetings, which further undermined our confidence.

Overall, their project management fell short in every aspect—timely communication, responsiveness to our needs, and delivering agreed-upon services. This left us with no tangible progress or value from the partnership.

The only thing that made this company impressive or unique were there excellent reviews, however our experience was far from excellent unfortunately.

There are several critical areas where Jives Media could have significantly improved:

Understanding Client Goals:
From the outset, Jives Media failed to grasp our primary objective: increasing bookings through Calendly. Despite repeatedly communicating this, their landing page recommendations were focused on generating leads rather than bookings. This demonstrated a clear disconnect between their strategy and our business goals.

Tailored Strategies:
We expected a customised approach based on our specific needs, but instead, the recommendations felt generic and out of touch. For instance, suggesting we discontinue bidding on the keyword "eyelash extension course" — the core of our business — was not only baffling but detrimental to our success.

Bid Strategy Recommendations:
They proposed a major bid strategy change (from Target Impression Share to Maximise Conversions) without conducting an A/B test. This is a fundamental misstep, especially for such a significant adjustment, and it revealed a lack of understanding of best practices.

Responsiveness and Communication:
Communication was consistently delayed. As a new client, waiting days for responses left us feeling undervalued and unsupported. In a service-based industry, timely and clear communication is essential, and this was severely lacking.

Handling Client Concerns:
When concerns were raised, particularly about their team’s experience, these were ignored or downplayed. Requests for one-on-one discussions with the CEO were disregarded, further eroding trust and making it difficult to address critical issues.

Contractual Responsibilities:
The contract outlined that Jives Media would conduct market and competitive analysis as part of their onboarding process. Instead, they asked us to provide competitor data and revenue insights — tasks we hired them to handle. This demonstrated a lack of initiative and expertise.

Attention to Detail:
Despite being informed that 95% of our traffic comes from mobile, their landing page recommendations were geared towards desktop optimisation. This oversight showed a lack of attention to crucial client data and an inability to prioritise what truly mattered for our campaigns.

Lack of Confidence in Account Managers:
During our calls, Jay, the CEO, dominated the discussions, while the individuals managing our account said very little. This lack of input from the actual account managers made it difficult to trust their capabilities. Our concerns were heightened when the strategy we eventually received came from someone who had barely contributed during the calls. This left us worried about the level of expertise and care being applied to our account.

Client Relations and Escalation:
Instead of resolving the matter directly, Jives Media involved their legal and billing teams when we raised concerns. This approach was unnecessary and damaging, particularly as we had made it clear we wanted to handle the situation amicably and privately.

Accountability:
Rather than acknowledging their shortcomings and working towards a resolution, they shifted blame and escalated the issue unnecessarily. This lack of accountability and willingness to engage constructively was one of the most disappointing aspects of our experience.

Overall, Jives Media needs to drastically improve their communication, client understanding, and strategic expertise to deliver the level of service they promise. They must take ownership of their responsibilities and ensure their strategies are aligned with client goals, rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions.

Following this, the team jointly created a overall marketing plan that would not only increase traffic online but spread brand awareness in my targeted areas. The proposed and provided marketing plan was extremely successful. Our firm's new client base increased dramatically during the entire time of the initial campaign. Most leads were coming through directly from our Google listing and website intake form. In addition, these leads were vastly incoming from our targeted areas. This is what we were most happy with.
