I am the Chief Technology Officer. The company that I work for designs and develops large scale, real-time workforce automation for Contact Center and Back-Office workforces.

Our Platform needs to be modernized in some areas to support the large scale, real-time events and rule processing that makes our Platform so value to our customers. The goal was to find someone with the appropriate experience in order for us to accelerate our time to market initiatives around Platform Modernization.

We sent a request for information to a number of organizations. We evaluated the responses looking for an appropriate fit for our company and the project. We then interviewed the short-list of partners. We were looking for a partner that had experience, skilled resources and presented a company culture similar to our own where "people our first".

The scope of the work undertaken by Dreamix included participation in design reviews, discussions about the use of technologies used in our Platform such as Keycloak and Envoy, both well-known open source projects. The work undertaken by Dreamix was predominantly the development of a range of microservices built using JAVA on the Spring Framework along with the corresponding automation testing for the microservices.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

With the engagement and support of Dreamix, we were able to successfully meet its Objectives and Key Results for the Platform Modernization that were a part of our 2022 Roadmap. We did this with the expected quality, performance and scalability metrics that were expected from this part of the Platform Modernization initiative.

The Dreamix teams had their daily stand-ups along with participating in our company's daily stand-ups with their counterparts. As a partner, the Dreamix team members have company email addresses and Slack access to ensure communications across the teams via email, Slack and Zoom. The Dreamix team worked closely with our Program Management team and Business Analysts on story refinement and grooming.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The experience of Dreamix in terms of skills and company culture exceeded our expectations. The relationship was a true partnership with both organizations collaborating with the goals and objectives of the project being the goal and objectives.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No. As with most partnerships of this nature, they form and develop over time based on a spirit of cooperation and meeting the stated objectives.

After in-depth desk research, we shortlisted a few software development companies. We went through a few interactions and selected Dreamix as our preferred partner for the project. The decision was based on a few factors including but not limited to the recommendations, personal connection with the management, skillset and experience level we were looking for.

GemSeek is developing the next version of its product utilizing the latest technologies. Stages included onboarding of Dreamix team members, phased introduction to the platform, its specifics, business requirements, bug fixing and new feature development.

We are using 2 resources - a senior .NET developer and a junior .NET developer with microservices experience. They were selected after 1-1 interviews with Tech Lead and Software Architect.

Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

The two resources are actively contributing to the decrease of the bug backlog and the development of new features for the platform.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was effective, as GemSeek’s team has already established and streamlined all internal processes, methodologies, communication and workflows. Dreamix’s team members were successfully onboarded, and invited to work in person alongside GemSeek’s development team, which strengthened the relationship between both teams.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their client-centric approach and great communication are impressive.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

An area for improvement would be decrease in the time for firm commitment of resources, as it took more than a month and a half. For urgent and time-sensitive projects this might not work well.

Dreamix demonstrated outstanding experience in agile software development combined with deep expertise in the employed technology stack - robust architectures, clear REST APIs and OOD.

Dreamix follows agile Scrum process to clarify requirements with our product owners, turn them into tasks, executed in 2 week Sprints and demonstrated live on customers. The technology stack includes:

For the front-end we employ React with micro-services architecture and single-page application. State of the art CI/CD is achieved through Argo CD, Argo Workflows and gitops. Monitoring plays important role in our high availability SLA and uses Prometheus and Datadog.

We currently engage 9 engineers, both back-end and front-end, with positions ranging between regular and senior engineers, tech. leads and architects.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The skeleton of the project was built from scratch in agile iterative way in less than an year, representing to the market a leading enterprise software platform with no analog in terms of smartness and ease of use. The outcome is that our company maintained and affirmed leadership position in the segment of auto-logistics software. In terms of software quality we maintain Sigma 4.5 level, which is considered a top-notch quality level in the industry, comparable with companies like VMware and Microsoft (Office suite).

Communication-wise, Dreamix is very transparent and always clearly reports progress, risk and mitigation. Management is provided by our company, but we rely on the judgement of senior engineers at Dreamix for all major decisions such as release decisions, planning and quality vs feature balance.

Dreamix feels very friendly, supportive and customer oriented with rapid reaction on ideas for improvement. Their technical staff ramps up fast into the Ship.cars business domain and maintains high level of software professionalism.

No major issues were experienced during our ongoing relation. We hope to continue growing together.

What were your goals for this project?

To build a co-located team that could extend our current product set with new features. We also have a roadmap of new products and languages and wanted to build technical competence to be able to work in these new areas.

We had previous experience of working with Bulgarian companies and found the people to be of extremely high quality with great character. Our focus quickly narrowed down to Dreamix when we read some reviews and our initial contact points were incredibly efficient and just give us a confidence in their competence

Our product is built in C and Java and we have a devops environment comprising, Jenkins, Makefiles, Git, Mercurial, Python, PHP. We also expect our people to work with modern languages but understand Mainframe systems and languages.

Dreamix supplied high quality people that could master the entire Stack of technologies. Initially starting with code fixes, the dreamix team quickly progressed to building out new features and suggesting improvements to not just our products but also our development processes.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our product was built to move z/OS mainframe applications to the cloud. The dreamix team added added a whole new mainframe environment, DOS/VSE, to our product in less than 6 months.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We communicate multiple times a day using slack and have daily scrum calls. We supplement this with occasional onsite visits to share and transfer knowledge. Heirloom has been built with a remote development workforce so there was very little change for us to work with a new team remotely.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Technical capabilities are a given, but the character and integrity of all the people that we work with and have met at Dreamix are of the highest order.

Dreamix have actually been a source/driver for improving our own internal communications and staff facilities.

We help insurance companies and insurance brokers to do data migrations, conversions and improve their data quality. I am the managing partner in direct communication with the developers in the role of product owner.

We developed the first version of our policy migration, conversion and quality improvement application ourselves. But getting further we needed more development capacity that was not available in our country.

What were your goals for this project?

The solution had to be flexible, so it could adjust to different customer needs and auditable, so that we could trace back all changes and why they were made.

How did you select this vendor?

We started by selecting companies near the good technical universities. Selected about 20 companies, that we wrote to have a discussion with a lead programmer, review some code that they made and evaluated their pricing model. Based on that analysis we created a shortlist of three companies that I visited. During the visit we interviewed the management team and the developers, which lead to the final selection of our software development partner.

The Apollon application is a configurable application in which you can import and export insurance data in a flexible format. On the data in the system business rules can be executed to identify issues and update fields (also based on external data sources). The data can also be manually improved by users via a configurable user interface. The application is fully fuctional and working for multiple customers. We are currently working on improving our customer onboarding process and improving the way that the business rules can be defined by customers.

What was the team composition?

The development team consists of 4 developers, assisted by architects and subject matter experts within Dreamix that are external to the core development team. The core developmentteam consists of two senior developers, a medior and a junior developer.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

For two months we are doing an active acquisition of new insurance broker companies. After 15 visits to companies, more than 80% of them are very positive and want to be onboard. The customers that we have currently got are very satisfied with the solution and especially with the speed that changes are implemented in the application.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The team is self-directing, based on the scrum methodology. Responsibility for the sprint items are not put on a single developer but are always the responsibility of the team. This has been proven very effective for me.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I would definitely say the culture that they implemented throughout the entire company. It's a caring and sharing culture that is managed internally as well as externally and to their customers (or partners as they like to call). The developers are all really motivated and are encouraged to dive deep, not only technical but also in understanding the customer processes and business needs.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I am very happy with the way that we are collaborating at the moment. Dreamix is always open to suggestions and is willing to put the effort into implementing the suggestions.

What were your goals for this project?

I initially hired Dreamix to fix a major bug that was causing Twibble web application to shut down every week or so. Moreover, the users were unable to log in. Massive db problems due to Elasticsearch. Basically nothing worked and the entire backend had to be rebuilt.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I met Stoyan Mitov in San Francisco who introduced me to the team and I became convinced they were a great dev team.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

When they joined, they started debugging, scrutinizing through the code and system. It appeared that Elasticsearch was used as a database which was a problem because Elastic doesn't support ACID transactions. In short, it led to no guarantee that Twitter's authentication token will be available when someone wants to login.

We fixed the many memory issues one by one, moved the database to MySQL and the web app started to operate smoothly. After the fix, Dreamix team started working on new features and was responsible for the support.
