Aerospace is a highly sophisticated and traditionally conservative industry, and there is a critical shortage of modern productivity tools that seamlessly blend deep tech with intuitive usability.

We connected with DesignX following my time at Stanford. With our new business model, we wanted to build a comprehensive product that would bridge the gap between complex AI-driven data and user-friendly design for the aerospace sector.

DesignX has been instrumental in leading our UX/UI design. Their involvement heavily focused on UX strategy, user research, and usability testing. They arranged professional research interviews with our target users and stakeholders, recorded the sessions, and provided us with deeply insightful reports.
They also ran usability testing on our hardware; since we manufacture physical equipment, our devices combined with the new software operate as a cohesive e-system. DesignX rigorously tested the new design concepts directly against our existing hardware.

To build the UI, DesignX took the time to deeply understand our complex business and technical processes. We spent the majority of our time mapping out the business logic, followed by UX strategy, and finally integrating advanced technologies like AI. They structured the project into three clear stages: hardware integration, mobile application, and web software. The first stage is complete, and the project is ongoing.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Because we operate in deep tech and aerospace hardware, we cannot fully measure commercial success until the final product version is deployed in the field. However, we already have functional screens of our software running a portion of the new design system. Our programming and engineering teams are currently implementing what DesignX has designed, and the feedback on the structural UX improvement is highly positive.

We are very satisfied with DesignX. They run a highly professional operation. Since I am based in Denmark and manage a remote setup, we collaborate dynamically—combining remote sprints with aligned schedules. DesignX maintains an incredibly disciplined timeline.
We had workflows mapped out weeks in advance, making it a pleasure to plan my own time around fixed, punctual meetings. Communication is highly efficient using modern tools like Slack and Figma, alongside Google Meet for video conferencing, and WhatsApp for urgent, minor alignment.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

While we do not have measurable outcomes tracked yet, we really enjoy working with DesignX and appreciate their ability to quickly make changes and discuss design options. I liked the designs, which is our current bar for success. There have been huge improvements to the overall design and feel of the application, and our design and product process has improved significantly. The color palette is now much better, the UI spacing is improved, and the UX is more intuitive, requiring fewer clicks for users to achieve their main tasks. Communication and understanding of the product by the design team also improved greatly after DesignX joined. The overall consensus from users and stakeholders has been very positive.

Alcott HR provides human resources consulting, compliance, payroll, and workforce management solutions that help organizations operate more effectively and support their employees.

What specific goals or objectives did you hire DesignX to accomplish?

• One of our websites is a genetic genealogy site for consumers who have taken a DNA test through services like Ancestry. Users can upload their DNA data and find people they’re genetically related to. An amateur genealogist started the site in 2010, and then it grew to the point where it had over a million users. In 2018, law enforcement started using the site to identify violent crime perpetrators when they couldn’t identify the DNA sample through federal databases. Through the site, they built family trees and identified potential suspects in various cases. Our company acquired the website at the end of 2019. We realized that regular consumers didn’t want to see anything related to law enforcement on the website and the types of cases uploaded when this new methodology for solving crimes started taking off. We needed to create a professional website specifically for law enforcement with tools, processes, and account management that the regular site didn’t have. We engaged DesignX to build this portal for law enforcement and genealogists working with law enforcement.

DesignX designed the UI/UX and developed our professional website using Drupal. Although they built the site from scratch, we had some pre-developed tools the team connected to. They also developed custom APIs and integrated Chargebee as a subscription and payment platform.

The team migrated and replicated tools from the regular site. They went through different scenarios of business use cases and the types of users the site would have. Currently, DesignX provides continuous development for the site; they make improvements, add features as needed, and maintain it.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The site has been very successful; it works as intended and meets our expectations. When we launched, we had a baseline of law enforcement users from the regular site. Since then, the number of users and profiles uploaded to the site have grown significantly.

Their project management has been excellent. During the development phase, we did face some challenges connecting APIs built by DesignX to our existing servers. But that was more due to our in-house development team's method of coding the API connection points. DesignX was able to devote additional resources needed to launch the site in January 2025, with more feature launches in December 2025 and 2026.

Currently, they stay on top of our requests quite well. We met weekly when developing the site and now meet bi-weekly as a part of the support work DesignX does for us. We use Basecamp as our primary tool and Google Sheets to track various items. We also used our internal Jira instance in the past to track other aspects of the project.

I appreciate that DesignX understands our needs. Their design is really well done and thoughtful, and the technology they've chosen for it works with our needs. Moreover, the team is pretty easy to work with, which has been great. Initially, we looked at other offshore companies, but DesignX is in our time zone. We’ve liked being able to communicate with them without dealing with time zone differences.
