• One of our websites is a genetic genealogy site for consumers who have taken a DNA test through services like Ancestry. Users can upload their DNA data and find people they’re genetically related to. An amateur genealogist started the site in 2010, and then it grew to the point where it had over a million users. In 2018, law enforcement started using the site to identify violent crime perpetrators when they couldn’t identify the DNA sample through federal databases. Through the site, they built family trees and identified potential suspects in various cases. Our company acquired the website at the end of 2019. We realized that regular consumers didn’t want to see anything related to law enforcement on the website and the types of cases uploaded when this new methodology for solving crimes started taking off. We needed to create a professional website specifically for law enforcement with tools, processes, and account management that the regular site didn’t have. We engaged DesignX to build this portal for law enforcement and genealogists working with law enforcement.

DesignX designed the UI/UX and developed our professional website using Drupal. Although they built the site from scratch, we had some pre-developed tools the team connected to. They also developed custom APIs and integrated Chargebee as a subscription and payment platform.

The team migrated and replicated tools from the regular site. They went through different scenarios of business use cases and the types of users the site would have. Currently, DesignX provides continuous development for the site; they make improvements, add features as needed, and maintain it.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The site has been very successful; it works as intended and meets our expectations. When we launched, we had a baseline of law enforcement users from the regular site. Since then, the number of users and profiles uploaded to the site have grown significantly.

Their project management has been excellent. During the development phase, we did face some challenges connecting APIs built by DesignX to our existing servers. But that was more due to our in-house development team's method of coding the API connection points. DesignX was able to devote additional resources needed to launch the site in January 2025, with more feature launches in December 2025 and 2026.

Currently, they stay on top of our requests quite well. We met weekly when developing the site and now meet bi-weekly as a part of the support work DesignX does for us. We use Basecamp as our primary tool and Google Sheets to track various items. We also used our internal Jira instance in the past to track other aspects of the project.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I appreciate that DesignX understands our needs. Their design is really well done and thoughtful, and the technology they've chosen for it works with our needs. Moreover, the team is pretty easy to work with, which has been great. Initially, we looked at other offshore companies, but DesignX is in our time zone. We’ve liked being able to communicate with them without dealing with time zone differences.

We conducted user acceptance testing with potential customers and received very positive feedback regarding the usability, visual quality, and overall UX of the design. The response gave us confidence that the new design was a significant improvement over the previous version.

Overall, their project management was very good. There were a few challenges during the project, but the team handled them professionally and remained flexible.

For example, we initially worked with one designer whose style was not fully aligned with our expectations. We appreciated their willingness to adapt and ensure the project stayed on track.

The main goal of the redesign is to create a better UX and support future business growth. Since we’re still completing the project, we haven’t measured the full business impact yet. However, DesignX has been very responsive, flexible, and has delivered beyond our expectations throughout the process.Moreover, the early feedback from our internal team has been very positive. The redesigned application flow is much clearer, more structured, and easier to understand compared to the previous version.Our team has appreciated how DesignX has simplified the user journey and translated our requirements into a more modern and intuitive experience. The design reviews and Figma collaboration sessions have helped us identify improvements early and make decisions with more confidence before development begins.We’ve set several KPIs to track once the new design is launched. These will include user engagement, completion rates for the application process, time taken to complete key tasks, and overall user feedback. We also want to monitor whether the improved design helps reduce friction for users and creates a smoother experience when applying for programs.

We worked with DesignX to create Lassoo's public-facing digital presence from scratch - and we're talking a complete overhaul. This involved bringing our website, email marketing infrastructure, and brand design assets all under one roof.

• Website & Brand Design: DesignX built our website using Webflow, which included the Home Page with all the bells and whistles (hero animations, subscription modals etc) as well as a For Developers page, Blog with Content Management System integration, Contact Sales, Careers and inner pages. The one area we're still working on is the Use Case page - but everything else is almost there, pending a final quality control check.
• Email Marketing: In addition to website development, DesignX set up our full MailerLite account, which included setting up our blog subscribers list, a waitlist campaign, and automating our blog-to-subscriber pipeline whenever we post new content on our CMS. We're also now tracking attribution on all website forms
• Design Assets: The DesignX team created a Welcome Email template and a modular email component library in Figma, not to mention marketing banners in three different formats (Instagram feed, Stories, LinkedIn/web) and even Investor update email templates. All of the source files are stored in Figma, ready to use.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Before we started working with them, we had no functional website, no email marketing setup, and no brand design assets. By the end of the project, we had a fully functional website on core pages, a live email marketing setup, and a whole library of email and social media design templates at our disposal. On top of that, we've got live waitlist and blog subscriber forms that are collecting leads from day one. It's been a real game-changer for us - we didn't even have a website a few months ago and now we've got a pro-looking digital presence that's actively being used.

The simple answer is, really well!

They were super responsive and reliable, and consistently delivered on-time throughout the project. What really stood out to us though was the whole team's genuine interest in our project and in helping us deliver something amazing. They weren't just focusing on their individual tasks, they were all chipping in with ideas and suggestions on UX flow and creative thinking. They went above and beyond what we asked for, bringing up ideas and solutions we hadn't even thought of. Communication was always easy and proactive, and we never felt like we weren't a priority.

What really set DesignX apart was the culture of their team. Everyone was always willing to go the extra mile and it didn't feel like it was just because they were told to. What was really impressive was how they dug deep into UX thinking, they genuinely cared about how users would experience our product and were proactively flagging up potential improvements and ideas throughout the project. That kind of ownership and dedication is hard to find, and it really made a huge difference to the final product.

To be honest, we can't really think of anything. Our experience with DesignX has been top-notch so far.

Everything related to our service was very difficult for consumers to use, so we needed to create a good UI/UX. We had previously hired others for UI/UX, but always got stuck at some point. Our goal was to continuously improve and innovate the user experience, so we partnered with DesignX as our design agency.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

DesignX provided UI/UX design services for our mobile app. They delivered a complete UI/UX redesign, including user experience flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and final design assets using Figma. They reviewed our existing product, researched user journeys, and redesigned key workflows to make the platform more intuitive. They also documented design decisions and process flows to align our internal development efforts. As our partnership has expanded, they have also been involved in designing and planning a new website experience for our brand.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We recently achieved three bronze awards from the Lovie Awards for a couple of the designs we created with DesignX, which was an impressive measure of success. These awards included the people’s award, which means that a lot of people voted for us. We’ve also measured the success of this project by seeing how well our app is performing in the app stores. Most importantly, we measure our success by looking at our help desk activity. Receiving a lot of complaints means that something isn’t working. However, our service tickets are decreasing, as people find it easier to use our solution as they get familiar with it, which is very easy due to the way it has been designed. Of course, we’re not done yet, as this is an ongoing partnership.

How did DesignX perform from a project management standpoint?

DesignX is great at delivering on time, understanding that excellent design takes time. We do not work with strict deadlines to avoid forcing the process, but we have internal deadlines that consider both design and development. We use Asana for project management, and at a higher level, Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence for documentation management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

DesignX is a very smart team; they can think outside the box. Finding a team that can work creatively on an already-designed mobile app is very difficult. This project has been a very challenging assignment for them. Still, I’ve noticed that DesignX has paid close attention to the project. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have succeeded. They’ve done proper research and delivered according to our expectations.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have not experienced any area in which DesignX could improve. We work well together and solve any issues as a team by communicating openly and addressing problems as they arise.
