I’m a co-founder of an app. The company is called Castgaphry, and the app is a social media app.

What challenge were you trying to address with Day One Technologies?

We were dissatisfied with developers we had worked with before, we have a lot of trouble financially and with problems in the app, so we were looking for a new developer. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave them the report from previous developers. They made suggestions for improvement, provided wireframes, and new designs. They laid out a clear scope and timeline for the project.
The app is built for iOS and Android.
It is similar to Twitter, but with a voice, targeting a broad, worldwide audience. It has many features of current popular apps, including follow, public channels, hashtags, search, location, and more. 

What is the team composition?

We have one main point of contact but are also in contact with the entire team; Android, iOS, designers, and more.

How did you come to work with Day One Technologies?

They were recommended by a developer that left one of the previous teams we had worked with. We researched them online, and spoke to them several times before deciding to work with them. We liked what we saw of their previous work, and they sent a lot of documentation about how they would manage our project.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve roughly spent $50,000. It was about $40,000 for the first launch and $12,000 for the additional features.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April – August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They wrote new code, since the code we had from previous developers was old. We launched, and then they added new features and we had a 2nd release. They offered marketing plans, but we haven’t taken them up on that, at this point.

How did Day One Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We have one main call at the end of each week to wrap things up and discuss where everything stands. We talk throughout the week as needed for issues that arise, and we have meetings with each different team, such as iOS, Android, designers, etc. They used different software to follow each feature and its progress. The communication and timing were good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were honest and great to work with. They presented their plan very clearly from the beginning and working with them was easy. It was a much better experience than we had with other developers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’re great.

Ergonomics consultancy company providing specialist ergonomics support to companies globally. We provide education and consultancy services both virtually and in person.

For what projects/services did your company hire Day One Technologies?

For the design and development of a software tool to add to our products and resources that we can sell to clients both B2B and B2C. The tool was developed to be a self-assessment evaluation tool for 4individuals to ergonomically set up their own workstation.

We needed the tool to work for both individuals who purchase it for personal use as well as companies that want to implement the tool within their health and wellness programmes to support their employees ergonomically.

What were your goals for this project?

Development of a tool that we can sell to both individuals and businesses that would enhance our service offering by providing a reliable and customisable ergonomics tool that would be sensitive to individual client requirements.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I had spoken with a number of vendors that I had found online. We had started working with a different company who just wasn't understanding the big picture of what we needed to achieve and had generally poor communication.

Day One actually reached out to me through LinkedIn and we then had a call to discuss the project. Day One had great customer reviews which gave me confidence to work with them

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Started with a call to see if Day One could support the project then linked in with the project team. We then had a review of the requirements and from there a project timeline was put in place and development was outlined in wireframes.

Then the build started with constant back and forth and feedback with changes implemented as required. Then the testing phase with further changes and project revisions (some with additional costs) before going into full production. Throughout this process, we would have frequent calls

What was the team composition?

Project manager, Software Developers, UI and UX experts I was in talks with different members of the team as the project moved from planning to the development and production stages.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Before the tool was even fully launched we were able to start selling it to clients which increased our offerings and client interest in additional services.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project lead supported the project throughout and arranged for the weekly calls (or more frequent if required) to go through progress and discuss next steps. Basecamp and Skype were used for all communication and responses through either channel were prompt.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their attention to detail and customer focus see them apart. They also had a good understanding of the project as well as providing insights and opinions where necessary in areas that I may not have considered

Are there any areas for improvement?

The areas for improvement are all on my side. It was my first experience developing such a tool and therefore I learnt the importance of clear and detailed documentation/requirements

I’m the CEO of a fintech platform. We tailor investment approaches to individuals and give them the option to take on a level of risk. While people can treat their account as a checking account, it remains productive.

I needed an agency to develop our fintech platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Day One Technologies is our technology partner that has helped us from the start. We provided them with initial technical designs and an extensive range of information. There was a lot of back and forth between our teams, so it wasn’t independent design work.

Their role was to bridge the execution gap from a prototype to a production-level application. They developed the platform, which we still work on. Their team built our entire backend system as well as our mobile application. They created numerous features and functionalities.

What is the team composition?

We interact with our project manager daily. Their team includes two backend engineers, a frontend engineer, and QA resources. We’ve also engaged with Day One Technologies' leadership.

How did you come to work with Day One Technologies?

We extensively searched online and interviewed over 20 vendors. We sought a partner with industry expertise that was capable of executing on our project. We spent time upfront on due diligence.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership started in 2018, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Day One Technologies is an excellent partner. Their team understands the ups and downs of business and fundraising. They understand when we change our priorities. Through a combination of our efforts, our relationship is incredibly productive.

How did Day One Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We use the Atlassian Suite and speak with their team daily. We prefer to be in contact daily, which is why we’ve seen results. We consider them a part of our team. They go and forth with us on project requirements. We stay on top of their team and closely work with them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We consider them a part of our business. They consider us a part of their business, so it’s a symbiotic relationship. Their team understands when we have to change our priorities and needs, which is appreciated and makes for a great partnership.

Are there any areas they could improve?

If they were transactional, they’d need to be more autonomous. We don’t work following a transactional model. It’s much more of a relationship.

We needed developers to help with mobile app development. We wanted to extend the functions provided on our website.

Day One Technologies spent the time to understand our objectives and the app’s requirements. Then, they created a timeline with expectations for every milestone. Their team identified potential issues and shared them with us. Then, they built the native app for Android and iOS.

The platform allows clients to create accounts and deposit funds in their accounts. Users can transfer funds to another account if it meets the criteria. The app also pushes updates to users about events to join physically or virtually. As well, users can chat live with support personnel.

They completed phase one of the project, which involved building the essential features and functions. Now, their team works on minor enhancements that we request. Phase two will involve broader enhancements.

In the end, Day One Technologies met our objectives. Their team thought on our behalf to understand our problem. They’re knowledgeable. When unexpected scenarios and technical difficulties arise, their team is calm and finds solutions.

How did Day One Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is fantastic. They meet deadlines and communicate well. Their team's always on standby, especially when we needed to launch the app.

During the process, we hit some roadblocks. They always gave advice and solutions to address them, which meant we overcome all the obstacles.

I wish they had an office in my country.

They were great. We had spocs setup bot the sides and JIRA looked updated

They're a very robust, thinking team that can solve issues no matter what.
