**The Review** — Jan 21, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: Cruxlab, Inc. delivered a full-fledged UI that’s suitable for tradeshow demonstrations and clinical testing environments. The team took great ownership of the project and exhibited an in-depth understanding of how the technology should interact with the client’s wearable physical therapy device.
""We were really pleased with Cruxlab’s services because they took us a step further in understanding the system.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a Fortune 500 that produces medical orthopedics devices. I’m the director of clinical data science and I’m responsible for the development of new technology, whether it’s wearable devices, mobile apps, or web platforms.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Cruxlab, Inc.?

We had just developed a new wearable device and we needed a mobile app to interface with its sensor components. We reached out to Cruxlab to have this app developed.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided the backend code base and API while Cruxlab developed the frontend of the application. They produced wireframes and UI designs in close collaboration with our limited team. Cruxlab helped us develop the Android version of the app, but we have since worked with another company to build for iOS. After designing the UI, Cruxlab actively participated in several rounds of user testing.

The application allows Bluetooth connection, data storage, live data streaming, and user feedback and outcome scores collection. It also features an avatar that enables patients to better perform digital therapy exercises. The motion sensors on the wearable device send data to the app, which then displays the avatar moving in sync with the patient.

What is the team composition?

There were at least four people involved in the project: the CEO, a UX designer, and two programmers.

How did you come to work with Cruxlab, Inc.?

We had worked with Cruxlab in the past. We reached out to them again because they were very quick and agile and because they were available to take on the work.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Cruxlab from January–August 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our main success metric was to have a workable app that could demonstrate the feasibility of our technology, and we were able to achieve that with Cruxlab in time for a tradeshow. Furthermore, we were able to use this app for a clinical study where patients tested it along with our wearable device. We received very positive feedback from patients during this time, and we were really pleased with Cruxlab’s services because they took us a step further in understanding the system.

How did Cruxlab, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed excellently on this front, delivering on time and within budget. We also appreciate how responsive they were. The UX lead, in particular, was very approachable and understood the project in-depth.

We used Figma for the designs and Jira for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The way they took ownership of the project really stood out to us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our collaboration ended since they have very limited experience in the medical device space. I believe it would be good for them to be more familiar with our documentation and regulatory processes should we re-engage in the future.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open and specific about your needs to allow them to truly understand it.

### Commonly Asked Questions

**What types of companies does Cruxlab work with?**
Cruxlab works with companies of all sizes, from startups to Fortune 500 organizations. We help startups gain traction and secure funding by building MVPs, then support them as they grow and scale. We also work with established mid-sized companies, helping them modernize legacy systems and adopt new technologies.

Our experience spans industries where software can take an organization to the next level of efficiency, including healthcare, connected fitness, education, mobility and transportation, entertainment, and more.

**How do budgets and pricing work?**
Cruxlab is a goal-oriented team, and we always start by looking at the value we can bring to your business. Every project is different, so our first step is to understand your specific case, including your goals, constraints, timeline, and budget.

Software projects that sound similar on the surface can be built in very different ways, and that can significantly affect cost. From quick prototypes built with the help of AI to fully custom digital products designed around demanding user needs, we help you find the right solution for your business case and budget.

Building software is expensive, but building it with the right team is much more cost-effective.

**What do you need to start the work?**
Every project at Cruxlab starts with a discovery phase. We use this stage to understand your customer, what they are looking for, your unique business offering, and how we can help you move the project forward.

Your initial input can be as short as a paragraph or as detailed as dozens of pages of specifications. The goal is to build a shared understanding of the business, the product, and the problem we are solving before moving into execution.

Depending on the size and complexity of the project, the discovery phase can range from a one-week sprint to multiple iterations with weekly progress updates and interim deliverables.
