Applied Value operates as a global management consultancy, investment, and social impact group with decades of experience growing and transforming organizations through hands-on value creation. I am the Founder and CEO of the Turkish Office of the Applied Value Group.

For what projects/services did your company hire Commencis, and what were your goals?

We hired Commencis to develop our procurement and sourcing knowhow into a custom software. Every year we do a lot of sourcing/procurement consulting work for our big clients worldwide and we had a goal of turning this knowledge into software as a service. It is a highly complicated software that involves optimization and market intel along with a need for user friendly UX/UI.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We chose this vendor based on past experiences and recommendations. Commencis has a a perfect reputation not only in the region but worldwide with global clients as a reliable, professional and capable development partner. They have great relationships with their past clients and therefore a big portion of their business consists of ongoing client relationships that last many years.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The scope includes the procurement of flat carbon steel and how it should be optimized for each client that uses the software. There are multiple options and varying degrees of composition, sourcing options, supplier choices etc. The scope of work includes the client to put in what they need and the system send out RFQs to clients worldwide and based on supplier responses recommends the optimal strategy for the buyer.

There were 19 people on the team including frontend developers, back end developers, architects, QA a CTO and multiple project leaders.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We were very pleased with the deliverables and have already gotten good feedback from 4 clients whom we chose to be our Project Pilot Partners.

There were project management tools such as Jira used. We had Sprints, weekly update calls and Management overview calls regularly. The line of communication was always open adhoc as well and we were never left in the dark.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The responsiveness and the team spirit. They always hear the client and come up with creative solutions. The attitude is always positive and they always find a way to make things work and leave the client perfectly pleased with the outcome.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not much comes to mind right now.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a dermo-cosmetic company based in Lyon and Paris. We’re also present in 130 other countries, and I lead the Turkish branch. Our company has three separate brands that are sold in pharmacies and prescribed by dermatologists and pediatricians.

What challenge were you trying to address with Commencis?

We had an Android & iOS application that was developed years ago, but its speed, downloads, and online rating have declined due to it being outdated. We needed to improve our application and our services in order to increase our customer engagement, which is why we partnered with Commencis for mobile app development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Commencis came in to work on the UI/UX of the application. We shared our goals with the app and went into mapping out the customer journey and basic app structure. Their team did not rebuild the app from scratch, but they did implement a better interface and addressed other existing pain points.

Once we had completely improved the design, we created a funnel where we could further motivate our consumers.

What is the team composition?

We’ve interacted with around seven people from Commencis, but the main team includes the project manager, a UI designer, a UX designer, a business analyst, and an Android developer. 

How did you come to work with Commencis?

They were referred to us, so we included them in our screening. We talked to different providers but ultimately decided to work with Commencis because they had the most affordable services. 

How much have you invested with them?

We have spent more than $250,000 on the project so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in December 2018, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We are very happy with the final product. The customer interface is much better than before, and our users can now more easily understand our products and services. Within six months of its launch, our application has been downloaded 15,000 times. This has addressed our main goal of getting a positive score and positive feedback online since that was our problem with our former app. 

How did Commencis perform from a project management standpoint?

Their management skills are great. They’re constantly in touch with our team and regularly report to us what is going on. We also appreciate that they’re open and flexible towards any changes that need to be made. 

We track and manage the project through Basecamp and communicate daily through emails. We also hold monthly meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re very impressed with their communication skills. They always keep us in the loop. Although this project is a little complicated, they went the extra mile to provide us with the best possible solutions. Their expertise is out of this world. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t find anything that needs improvement. Their service is on a good level.

Be honest from the get-go. Describe your goals clearly so that the team can deliver the desired results.

I am the CRM & Digital Projects Responsible at NAOS Turkey. We operate in dermocosmetics sector for more than 13 years in Turkey. Our company has about 160 employess and we serve pharmacies all along the country. I oversee our digital products and vendor relationships.

Our company’s loyalty mobile application was created over 4 years ago and had not been updated since. We had noticed a steady decline in downloads and ratings over the past few years and decided to invest in a new mobile app. We do not have any in-house developers, so we needed to outsource the entire redesign and rebuild.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to see our mobile app engagement and downloads double by the end of the year and we wanted to increase the number of inquiries that we received through our contact form. We also needed the mobile app to be easy to update on our end, so we were interested in a simple, user friendly platform.

We had a couple meetings with the company and they prepared the concept and wireframes. After a couple iterations and discussions with our marketing team, we finalized the design and provided feedback. The company’s project management method consists of 5 stages; UX, UI, Analysis, Development and Publish.

What was the team composition?

We were assigned 1 project manager, 1 UX designer, 1 UI designer, 1 Business Analyst, 1 iOS developer, 1 Android developer and QA resources.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within 6 months after our new app was launched, we saw approximately 15.000 downloads and we continue to hear positive feedback on the functions of the app from our custumers.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We received a couple warnings if a deadline was not going to be met which happened a few times. We were able to communicate all members of the project team and we communicate through e-mails, phone calls, conference calls and meetings.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by the knowledge that this company had about user experience and interface design. I learned much more than I thought.

Everything can always be done faster, but were satisfied with the quality of their work.

I am project manager in one of the leading Kazakhstan banks. Bank has been successfully operating in the banking services market for over 20 years.

We wanted to develop a mobile application and web site using the latest technologies and trends

We selected Commencies from the list of developing companies which had developed the best applications for financial market and which applications had the highest rating, number of customers, amounts of transactions etc.

After we had choosen Commencis, we had a series of workshops at which the needs of the bank were discussed and then the company offered its solutions based on best practices and trend analysis. Commencis created a unique design of the app and after some changes due to our comments started development according to raod map and plan.

Commencis assigned project manager, account manager, analyst, UX/UI designer, 1-2 developers for each platform (we had 3 different platforms), QA team. I contacted mostly with project manager, account manager and analyst, but we also had some workshops involving developers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

After the first launch of our application the number of our customers increases every day and we are receiving good comments in stores (average rate above 4). Also after 1 year of the first launch we gained 1st position in mobile bank applications rank.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Our communications were constant and frequent, we always received information on the status of the project and in case of problems we solved them together via all the available channels like Slack, Skype, emails and whatsapp.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They came to us one-two times a year with the best offers to improve the application and suggested how to make it better and more convenient for users.

Of course, management always wants to get new features faster, so they need to find the best balance between speed and quality

They designed the UX and developed Android and iOS mobile applications, as well as doing frontend web development. We release a new version of the app every two months to provide innovative features and solutions for our passengers.

The project team had 17–25 people involved, with a project manager who was our direct contact.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project has digitalized our ticket purchase process. Half of our passengers now prefer to purchase tickets and additional services from web and applications.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We applied an agile development approach, with Jira integration for demand planning. We also organized a Ralli-month for all parties, during which everyone who worked overtime was accommodated in one place.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They understand our pain points and own the product as much as we do. We’re also impressed by our project manager.

They have some strict company rules for documentation and aren’t very flexible.

Commencis oversees frontend design and development, while my team does backend development.

The team quickly adapts to changing requirements and new challenges. They own the product as much as we do.
