One of my clients needed a new website. Though I’m very familiar with that process, my development skills were quite lacking. That is why I sought Codup.co’s help.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codup.co migrated my client’s existing website over to WordPress. They also made a few functional changes to the website, but the main issue that they were addressing was the huge time crunch. My client had set their expectations in terms of the timeline, so the team needed to be able to migrate the website in accordance with it.

I’m not sure how many people were assigned to the work because I talked to various members while we were laying out the initial pages. I did work with Zaheer (Project Coordinator) consistently once we moved into actual development.

I have a lot of local connections, but I couldn’t find anyone who was willing to take on the work given time constraints. I eventually wound up on Codeup.co’s website where we arranged the contract and everything.

I first engaged Codup.co in July 2021, and the migration project was completed in November 2021. I still reach out to them whenever I need help with something.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Codup.co did a really good job of meeting the tight timeline. Even when I wasn’t able to give them what they needed in time, they made sure to follow up to keep us on track of the deadline. We did end up needing a two-week extension on the project, but that was through no fault of theirs. It was simply due to my client not providing their feedback in the time they were supposed to. 

How did Codup.co perform from a project management standpoint?

I appreciated how, despite being in a different time zone, they made themselves available during my business hours. That would’ve been nighttime to them. On the other hand, I didn’t like how I was bounced around different people. It would’ve been better if they assigned a single point of contact for me. Then again, I was only there for the development and I’ve managed this type of project before, so I didn’t really need to rely on that as much.

We normally communicated via email, but we used Google Meet whenever we needed to discuss our feedback and share screens.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What really stood out about Codup.co was their eagerness to do custom work. Their equivalents here in the US are less inclined to do custom web development work, but their team really tried to build everything themselves where they could. This is possibly a testament to their technical knowledge and expertise. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything was moving so quickly, so I understand that the project wasn’t very ideal. One thing that could’ve improved the process, however, is if they laid out a timeline of what they expect to receive from their clients. There were instances where I received an email from them requesting that I provide feedback for a specific portion of the website within 24 hours. As a business owner, I can’t just open my day up for something like that. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Stay on top of the project, follow up on anything that you don’t understand, and keep in close contact with your developer. Scheduling calls will also definitely help, and doing video calls and screen-sharing will get you a lot farther than emails will.

I had a longstanding client that had a unique set of criteria for their existing website. Our client offered their particular products from three different overseas suppliers. As a result, if our client had customers or distributors who wanted to purchase something from them, the products would come from one of the three suppliers. The challenge was to keep the aesthetics consistent across three different components — the front- and backend and the e-commerce aspect of WooCommerce.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codup.co built the front- and backend of our platform, and there was a portion where our system had boilerplate templates. The team ensured that our client’s system was automated, so depending on the product that was ordered, PDF files had to be auto-generated to each one of the people involved in the transaction.

The team authored several plugins that were designed to work in conjunction with WooCommerce. They also expanded their plugin offerings based on the requirements we had because they saw how the circumstances played out for some of our potential clients.

I updated WordPress and added some plugins. While doing so, I chanced upon Codup.co’s ad banner on WordPress and once I clicked it, I saw what they could offer. In the end, we decided to work with them.

We worked together from September–December 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We were impressed that they quickly understood how all the different project components were going to play together. We didn’t launch the platform yet because we’re still in the beta testing stage and our project continues to evolve, so there are a lot of gray areas that have yet to be solved.

How did Codup.co perform from a project management standpoint?

They had an exceedingly good project management process. On a 10-point scale, I’d give them almost a perfect score. We used a workspace portal to ensure that all the files we needed as well as all of our communication were in one location. As a result, we didn’t have to scramble around trying to figure out if we had the right email address. Despite that, we occasionally used Google Meet, Zoom, email, and text messaging.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes the contact information they gave us was a little bit confusing. For example, when they gave us a certain contact, we weren’t really sure if we were talking to the right person. On top of that, we had cultural differences and language barriers.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The more you dig, the more likely you are to find your answer. In our case, we saw Codup.co through their banner and coincidentally found that they could help us with our project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Delivery timeframe and cost were the two metrics we measured. First, they gave us an excellent timeframe. They delivered in one month, and then we requested testing on our platform, so it extended two weeks more. On the other hand, the cost was an excellent price for the market, and they didn’t ask for any additional money than the original estimate.

Additionally, they were very polite and organized.

Project management was very organized; they were very professional. Their project manager would send what would happen in the meeting and all the steps in advance. If we had any issues at the meeting, he approached us to make sure everything was clear.

There wasn’t anything they could improve. It was a wonderful experience.

We were using a new piece of software, and we wanted to have alternatives on how the software was made. As a result, we hired Codup to tweak the software and make it work in a way that fit how we ran the business.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we created a scope of work between Codup and us. They started working once we agreed upon the scope. After a month, they finished the project and started testing it. We needed to do a few more tweaks after that.

In terms of the software’s functionality, we changed the way we input information into it and the format of how its display looked. We also tweaked the way our agents used the initial screen set. Apart from that, the Codup team also completed two small projects for us.

We worked with a project manager, a development manager, and two people who helped on the development side. Overall, our team worked with 4–5 people.

Codup built another app for the software we were using, and we found them through that. I talked to them about that app before I hired them. At that time, I didn’t plan on hiring them. However, when I realized that we needed to work on our software, I thought they were a good choice since they’d already done some work on the platform.

Our engagement lasted from May–August 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It was much easier for us to use the software compared to before, and that was our main success metric. Overall, we saved 30% of our time inputting information into the software, thanks to the changes that Codup made. 

How did Codup.co perform from a project management standpoint?

We had no problems with their project management. From our standpoint, it was a simple and clean process. As with any software project, changes happened along the way, and Codup accommodated them. They talked to us and made sure that we were aware of what the changes truly meant. 

Overall, we worked easily with them. On top of that, everything was perfect in terms of budgets and deadlines. We used Freshdesk as a project management tool, and our teams communicated through email; they were highly responsive.

It was easy for them to make changes.

They could provide a bit more detail in the scoping phase of the engagement. Their team should look through the scope of work thoroughly before everyone agrees on it.

Create a great scope of work and agree on it. On top of that, give Codup access to the things they need, and they’ll finish the tasks on time and within budget — they’re great at doing that.

Codup.co has done several projects for us, but the main deliverables have been B2B and B2C e-commerce websites. They use WooCommerce and WordPress.

The process starts with the review of the design file. Sometimes, they’re willing to make revisions to the file, but it’s usually pretty closed on the mark. Then, we move right into development and testing to make sure everything works. Finally, we launch.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 4–5 people. Our account manager is our main contact. He checks feedback and makes sure Codup.co has all the assets they need. Also, other people in the team are a couple of developers and the person who runs the agency.

We began our partnership in December 2020. The first project wrapped up in early March 2021, but we still go back to them for different projects, especially when we’re over our capacity.

I’ve hired a few subcontractors in my time, and Codup.co hasn’t required much management compared to others. They’ve freed up my schedule to focus on growing other parts of the business. Overall, it’s an added peace of mind to know things are being taken care of.

How did Codup.co perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve never struggled to get a hold of them, and that’s something I’ve significantly struggled with other contractors. We have a Trello board together, which is our primary source to review the project. If I have a question or they have a question, that’s where we check it out.

We also use email to communicate. If needed, we schedule a meeting through Google Meets for the next business day, and we always try to keep it short.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Firstly, I know I can get a hold of them. I’ve run into many subcontractors that ghost me when we have a deadline to meet, while Codup.co has always been available.

Also, the quality of work is great. We’ve never had an issue with them. They clearly understand what we need as a deliverable, and they usually hit the mark.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there isn’t anything. I thought that working with an international agency would be a challenge, but everything has gone smoothly. We couldn’t be happier.

Be very clear on the scope and provide as much documentation as you can.

Zendex Tool is a manufacturer of automotive tools and equipment. We make wheel dollies and pneumatic jacks — things to lift and move cares. I’m the VP of operations here.

We’ve been growing our online sales through our website and different e-commerce platforms like Amazon. We wanted to improve the website experience so that our customers could easily find replacement parts for the various products that we’ve been selling for the last 30 years. In conjunction with that, we needed a way for our website orders to feed into our QuickBooks accounting system.

We asked Codup.co to do that development and create a link between our website and Quickbooks.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Who developed the scope of the work based on our several discussions about how I envisioned the site to work. Codup.co presented templates of B2B e-commerce websites that they’ve developed in the past and we did a fair amount of customization to make those fit our needs.

I've had direct contact with 4 people from Codup.co: the main business manager, with whom I spoke about the scope of work, a business analyst, and two developers.

How did you come to work with Codup.co?

I found them on a website called Codeable. We posted our project there and had a handful of different developers bid on it. I chose Codup.co based on their ratings and previous work which were all viewable on the website. 

How much have you invested with them?

I don't know the exact figure, but it's in the neighborhood of around $12,000–$15,000. The original bid was for $11,000, but we’ve added on some things to that.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the project around October 2020 and it is still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I can’t give any exact figures, but looking at our Google Ads, I can see that our success rate in terms of having people click on our advertisements and purchase something from the website has substantially gone up from below 1% to 5%–6%. I think that attests to the ease of use on the new site versus the old one. Customers can now actually find us and purchase what they weren’t always buying on our old platform. 

Our overall web sales have improved as well. They’ve been steadily improving for a long while, but they’re holding at a higher level now. 

How did Codup.co perform from a project management standpoint?

It’s very easy to work with Codup.co and I think they’ve done great in this aspect. They’ve very clearly laid out the scope of work and broke it down into several smaller projects, giving me the chance to comment on each development as we worked through it. The team also makes adjustments based on my feedback.

There's definitely a lot of communication. We hop on video calls frequently and spend a lot of time going over the look, feel, and functionality of the website, making sure that everything was up to the standard we wanted. We were initially going back and forth through Codeable but found it a lot more efficient to just get on a call. 

We use Google Meet. We’ve also been communicating with them through Google Chat for quick little questions. We’re able to work around the time difference to make everything easy.

The project has gone on for a pretty long time, but not as a result of anything they've done. Codup.co works very fast. It's just that it took a while for sheets of data to load into the website, especially since we're working with information around a lot of parts and products.

It takes me a couple of weeks to test, vet, and approve what they’re developing, so it’s not their fault. I feel really bad about it because we were planning to finish by the end of 2020. COVID-19 also played a factor in the delay, but it’s mostly been my inability to get what they need to them in a timely manner. For instance, we needed to get a lot of new images made, cleaned up, and saved in the right format. It was a lot of groundwork that I realized I should’ve done before we started the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of communication has been very, very good. I always know where we are at when it comes to the project. Even if the ball is in my court, Codup.co is very diligent with following up to make sure that we’re moving along. They help me whenever they could on that. I’m very happy with it and I think the results speak for themselves.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It's hard to say because some of the challenges in this project, like the importing of files, are things that they couldn’t have really helped with. I don't have any constructive criticism to give.

Be very clear with the scope and functionality that you're looking for because this helps Codup.co deliver it to you. I wasn't initially detailed enough with what I was looking for, and the team was happy to make the changes as we went along, but it would have been easier for them if I was more explicit about the requirements upfront. The more detail you can give, the better.

We had a B2B and a B2C website, both of which were built on WordPress with WooCommerce plugins, which was not a good setup. We needed to merge two websites into one and build an operation to segregate the information that could be fed to our B2C and B2B customers. WooCommerce offers plugins for managing B2B sales, but these plugins all do the same thing, which is totally unuseful. 

Our specific needs were tricky to execute, especially because it involved importing all the customer and product data over to the unified website, so we hired Codup.co to help us.

Codup.co helped us with our two main targets. Firstly, they created a fully customized B2B management catalog and product delivery system. Once that was done, the team went on to merge our two websites into one.

Seeing the results of the work they did and the changes they made, I would say they did a great job. They were able to solve the issue we were having with our old B2B website, where our customers would often get lost. Codup.co’s work shows promise, and we are hopeful that it will make navigating the website easier for our customers.

The project management was definitely very good. Codup.co and I both speak English as a second language, so it was sometimes difficult to understand each other. Despite that though, the team did everything to resolve our problems. It was a pleasure to work with them. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their technical ability was impressive. They didn't mind that we spent a lot of time discussing what results I wanted to see. They really tried to understand my vision. I didn't expect to find a partner that was efficient and always available to talk about what difficulties we were having.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t know. I’m very satisfied with their services.

They could, however, always improve their pricing. The team could also learn to speak French, though this might be impossible. We had a hard time understanding one other because of our accents, but in the end it was really more of a joke between us and not a serious concern.

Take the time to precisely write out what you want. It is very important to explain everything clearly to Codup.co, otherwise you will both lose time.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codup.co?

They’ve done multiple projects for us. For one project, we brought them on to help with one of our clients that's a hospital. They wanted to create a message center that could message all of their employees from HR to credentialing departments. They wanted two separate entities of the solution.

This system needed to do SMS, emails, and email signatures. The HR department’s main functionalities needed to be resumés and verifying that individuals had particular certifications and licensing.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codup.co created the solution on WordPress. Functionalities include a user dashboard, email and SMS for employees, an initial repository for the pool of users submitting their resumes, and dedicated search and filters. There’s also a resume application management system that allows managers to sort through if individuals are applicable to the position. We have reports and status for the backend users.

Codup.co also provided us with uploaded signatures and a file management system. The file management system has a full structure plus subfolders. There are templates so the hospital can add or remove any parent folders or subfolders. Each and every member of the software system has a dedicated structure to their own account. They can input all their files and download them.

What is the team composition?

I occasionally speak with Asim (CEO & Co-Founder) and Ali K. (Web Developer & Designer) but Ali R. (Project Manager) is my main point of contact.

Leading up to the website development, we had meetings during which I discussed my goals. Their team learned about my needs and then worked to deliver them.

Codup developed my website and a WordPress plugin for trading. The website enables users to barter. Users pick an item, send a message to its seller, and then there’s back and forth between them. Codup incorporated the trade and fees aspect, which was also important because the fee had to be captured in the trade. As my project is a new idea, we'll have an ongoing relationship.

I worked with an array of their team members. Towards the end, I mostly worked with developers.

I found Codup because their team created other B2B plugins. I found their company through a WordPress plugin that was similar to the one I needed.

We'll launch the website for beta testing during which we'll collect feedback to guide additional development. I’m happy with the look of the website and overall satisfied with their work. As a working relationship, it’s been a great success. I’m excited to present the website to customers and launch the final version.

We use Zoom to communicate. Their team’s energetic and on the ball. I never wait for a response. They’re constantly in contact and if I have a question, I receive a response the same day. Although I’ve lagged a bit, their team has never lagged.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate their willingness to listen to my ideas. After I initially called them, Codup actually followed up with me. I contacted other companies that were a bit dismissive. They didn’t think highly enough of my project to take it on. Codup not only took on my project but also took it on with great customer service and voracity.

No, I don’t think so.

You need to have a clear vision for what you want. Codup will take it as far as you want but can also help you flesh out your plans and goals. However, you first need to be ready to go.
