I’m the online marketing manager for a wine company that makes both direct sales and has an e-commerce site.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codevery LLC?

We initially did all of our e-commerce in-house, but we realized we needed a more professional partner as we began to grow. We wanted a partner who could implement various requirements and go above and beyond what our internal team could do.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Codevery LLC’s first project was to develop an interactive wine finder. We gave them the concept, and they programmed it. They then took over our existing sites and started implementing features on an as-needed basis. We eventually realized the code was too old, so Codevery LLC did a complete reprogram and relaunch of the site. They started from scratch, building an e-commerce WordPress site, mainly using PHP.

Our site has numerous special requirements, which Codevery LLC makes sure to integrate. For example, we have integrated wine representatives in the site and a unique loyalty program that isn’t typical of most e-commerce sites. They’ve also done a lot of integrations with our freight audit and payment (FAP), ERP, and other third-party programs.

They provide a project manager, lead developer, and about eight others.

We found them on Upwork. They had a good profile and references, plus their price was competitive, so we gave them a small starter project. It went well, so we had them take on larger projects.

We’ve spent between $30,000–$40,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We partnered in August 2017, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They correctly implement our concepts and quickly understand complex requirements. Their code quality is good, unlike many overseas developers, and they work well with our internal team.

How did Codevery LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They have a reliable and well-suited project manager who tracks requirements and communicates daily. We use Slack, Trello, and InVision to manage the work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understand our projects quickly and proactively identify solutions that may be better. The team is honest and transparent, letting us know how long something should take and cost.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They did have some internal turnover that made us question how stable their team was, but it all worked out. They made sure new team members were properly and promptly onboarded.

Use dedicated project management tools to improve communication and make the partnership run smoother.

Visitors have the option to schedule online or over the phone; they also can then consult either in our offices or online. The team made the layout user-friendly and intuitive. It provides all the essential information about our firm and its services.

We use Slack, Gitlab, Everhour, Asana. We had no issues due to language barriers or time differences.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We're very nimble here, and often we get unclear or "hazy" direction from our clients. We try to distill this down to the essentials but we prefer to keep things loose and move fast, and keep our eye on the results and client satisfaction. They've meshed well with our culture and work style.
