I’m a project manager at a nonprofit association based in Budapest, Hungary. We organize arts and education programs, mostly digitally. Visegrad, a historical city in Hungary, has a very important meaning in four countries — Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. We decided to get to know each other better, but our countries sum around 65 million people.

Therefore, we started our association and launched a project called Visegradopedia. Visegradopedia is an online encyclopedia full of articles about the four countries.

What challenge were you trying to address with codebuild_?

During the last couple of years, we started to develop applications for our association. Since we were not very experienced with coding, we needed a partner to handle development work while we took care of the content and other areas.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

codebuild_ handles all the technical work we need. For example, they’ve developed a mobile app from scratch for us using React for the development and Figma for the design work. Their team has also handled the UX and helped us define user personas. Initially, I wanted to have several features on the app, but they told me those would be too many for an MVP and suggested a clean UI/UX instead.

This app is a digital encyclopedia where users can find information about Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. This information includes famous people, historical figures, castle locations, cities, music venues, convention areas, tourist attractions, and more.

The app provides snippets of information to motivate the reader to do more research if they wish, as well as links to more resources. In addition to it, codebuild_ is currently working on three more apps for us.

What is the team composition?

codebuild_’s team includes Patrik (CEO & Digital Product Manager), frontend developers, backend developers, and a project manager. I work with most of them. Initially, we worked with one of their team members full-time, but this person is no longer working with codebuild_. Now, we work with him directly as our UI designer, and codebuild_ has maintained a good relationship with this person.

How did you come to work with codebuild_?

I’ve known Patrik for about five years; he’s my friend. codebuild_ simply knew what I was doing, and I knew what they could provide. I knew that their main strength was the app and website development, so we naturally started working together.

Still, although the personal connection was very important, I also reached out to another development team I knew. However, they quoted four times the cost Patrik quoted. Given that my project was very small, it seemed to me that the other company didn’t want to work on it, so I ultimately went with codebuild_.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $18,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We won an EU-financed tender in October 2022 and started working with codebuild_ around December 2022. Our app will be live in September 2023, so our partnership is ongoing. Moreover, we’re waiting for feedback from other foundations, so we hopefully will continue working with codebuild_ on several other apps.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’m very pleased with codebuild_’s work. Last month, the app wasn’t working well at 100%, so I told them about it. Within days, they corrected the issues.

How did codebuild_ perform from a project management standpoint?

codebuild_ has delivered on time and within budget. We’re not using any project management tools because the project is relatively small; we simply communicate over Messenger.

What did you find most impressive about them?

codebuild_ is available 24/7, which is impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing codebuild_ could improve on. I can only advise them to keep up the good work.

Be as precise as possible about what you want.

What challenge were you trying to address with codebuild_?

We needed help with the development of several mobile apps.

What was the scope of their involvement?

codebuild_ has been helping us build iOS and Android mobile applications from scratch. They've been involved in the design process and have also taken care of logo creation and color schemes. We had a long briefing process, and we iterated the process.

Regarding the app's functionalities, they mainly target elementary and secondary school kids and encourage them to get in contact with each other. The platform has profile dashboards and an onboarding process for new users, among other features.

What is the team composition?

We work with around ten members of codebuild_'s team, including Patrick (CEO), an account manager, our main contact person, and two programmers.

How did you come to work with codebuild_?

I was a colleague of Patrick and recently found out that he was a programmer, so we decided to reach out and work together.

So far, we've spent $10,000–$50,000 with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in October 2022, and the engagement is still ongoing.

We haven't launched the apps yet, but I'm delighted with codebuild_'s work, and they've met my expectations.

How did codebuild_ perform from a project management standpoint?

codebuild_'s team meets all of our deadlines and sticks to budgets. Moreover, we have constant communication with weekly in-person meetings to discuss the project's progress — they're always available when I need them.

codebuild_'s expertise has been their biggest strength.

I don't think there's anything they can improve on.

I’m the founder and CEO of Collectorism, a website for collectors. It’s a marketplace where people can buy, sell, showcase their selection, and swap items.

What challenge were you trying to address with Codebuild?

We needed help putting together a proper website for our web-based business.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us not only develop the website and portal, but also refine our ideas. They designed the whole site and used Laravel for the backend. It was challenging to build a marketplace that didn’t look old-fashioned.

They also built a customized surface for swapping. When a user finds an item on the site and wants to swap it with another user, they can navigate to a platform we call the exchange room.

On the left, the user can see their items; on the right, they can see their partner’s items; in the middle, they can drag and drop the items they want to send and the items from the partner’s collection that they want to receive. They send this with an offer. When the other users receive it, they can either accept, decline, or modify it. It gamifies the transaction.

Codebuild maintains the site now. As we receive more funding, they also help us develop new ideas and features.

What is the team composition?

They provided full-service development, from research and planning to UI/UX design and programming. They had resources for every aspect of the portal design.

How did you come to work with Codebuild?

We went through a lot of developers, programmers, and agencies, but Codebuild was the only one that started by thinking strategically about the project. Other companies only sent us a quote. They seemed like robots who didn’t care about the product itself.

Codebuild asked us to sit down with them and discuss our ideas so they could understand what we wanted.

We built a custom website from scratch and grew from nothing to a €400,000 [$492,700 USD] investment by the end of 2017. They made a huge contribution to this. Our growth and user experience feedback have been fantastic.

How did Codebuild perform from a project management standpoint?

Patrik [CEO & Digital Product Manager, Codebuild] oversees everything as a project manager. He summarized everything that was going on and helped me understand all the processes. He was really easy to work with. We use Jira and Trello to stay in contact almost 24/7.

What did you find most impressive about them?

As someone who’s not very tech-savvy, it’s hard to explain yourself to and communicate with developers. Patrik provides a bridge between the teams and the client. Working with them has been an absolutely enjoyable experience, simply because we don’t get stuck on the technical details that we might not necessarily understand.

Reach out to them and talk to Patrik. Don’t be afraid to talk to them, even if all you have is an idea. They can bring out the best in what you already have.
