We are making a social media app similar to FaceTime and Instagram. The market is going to be mostly the young adult and teenager market.

Of all the people that I interviewed on Elance, I believe Cleveroad has the most sufficient manpower and experience to get the job done. I do not know exactly how big of a firm they are, but compared to all the other people I interviewed, Cleveroad seemed most likely to be able to get the job done in the time I needed it done – within two to three months.

How did you come to work with Cleveroad?

We went on Elance and found Cleveroad to develop this app for us.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

This project is in the $10,000 to $50,000 range.

What is the status of this engagement?

We are trying to launch this within the month. We started in June [2015], so it has been about two and a half months. We are now in the last week of development. They would have done it even more quickly, but I held it back because I had made some changes. But, every time I made a change, they would do a quick turnaround with it as well.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

They keep sending the data on the development every week to show us their progress. We have meetings one to three times a week, depending on how often I want it. They are always prompt and on time.

So far, they have been right on par, and they have actually been doing more than what I have requested. For instance, they are looking out for me, looking out for the app, and making sure the user experience is strong. They generally raise concerns before I would even think about potential bugs or problems. They did very well with the app. We are on schedule. It is looking clean and crisp. I am glad I chose them. Manpower is very big to me to get things done with a quick turnaround time. There are no compromises in quality whatsoever. Right now, we are into the bug-testing phase. So far, everything is good, clean, and crisp, and it flows very nicely.

How did Cleveroad perform from a project management standpoint?

I am actually so satisfied with them that I agreed to reference them. I have dealt with different web developers for different things we were doing, and compared to the other people I have worked with, Cleveroad is precise. They actually have two project managers – one to watch over the developer project manager and the developers, and another person, who is a representative of the whole project that talks to me directly, and makes sure the whole development department is on track. Anything I requested, such as documentation and disclosure agreement,  they promptly got it to me.

What distinguishes Cleveroad from other providers?

They are quick and their quality is excellent. That is the main thing I really wanted. A lot of other teams said it would take five or six months to get this project done. One thing I really wanted was a three-month turnaround, and they reassured me that it could be done in three months because they have the manpower and experience to do it. It is not a simple app, either.

For example, there is FaceTiming and  a lot of live video feed. I was a little skeptical and worried, but they got it done exactly how I had envisioned it – even a little bit better. They are really on top of things. They go above and beyond. Cleveroad paid close attention to every detail. I did not expect them to be this good.

Is there anything Cleveroad could have improved or done differently?

Not really. I sort of wished they were in the United States, but they are in the Ukraine, so there are the normal barriers that come with that. I have no communication problems with them, either, even though we are so far apart. Overall, I would not change anything between them and us.

Our main goal was to add more features to the application. It included album-sharing options, developing extensive permission settings, uploading more photos and drag and drop them inside of albums, adding pictures in the test posts, and choosing different types of subscriptions (from monthly to lifetime).

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

This iteration, like previous ones, was successful, as we developed everything we had planned.
Additionally, during our collaboration, some features and overall performance were improved. We’ve
released updated versions in stores. Now, we’re focusing more on gathering more users.

Usually, with Cleveroad, project management is fully covered by their team. Our PM was very helpful and attentive to details, she proactively informed us about any requests or issues. We had regular
communication to check on the project status and discuss outstanding questions. Everything was
delivered on time.

Cleveroad was engaged to build our MVP and be a true partner in helping us get the best result with our available budgetary and timeline constraints. Our main deliverables were:

• A web app to provide all necessary admin functionality.
• A mobile app for iOS and android for our users to engage with the product.

We chose Flutter for this. Due to the nature of our application we needed our app to pair with Indoor Rowing machines, namely the Concept 2 PM5 and for this to work seamlessly for both programming the monitor and also pulling data from the monitor at the conclusion of a workout.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Key outcomes related to:

• Delivering our MVP on time (they did)
• Having all core functionality included (it was)
• Assisting our internal team with understanding the trade offs of doing things different ways and what we should prioritise for our MVP.

Project management was fantastic. We had a clear project plan that was created in the first fortnight of development. We were also provided with a specifications doc and Gantt chart that included everything we needed to have a clear understanding of timelines and how things were tracking. The final layer of management was calls (2 per week, so approximately every 2-3 business days) to ensure everything was clear and that we could provide questions and answers to each other as necessary.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Took far more time and effort to understand the project and our needs than the other development agencies we sourced quotes from. As a result their quote better met our budget and timeline needs. Throughout the project they sought to continually help us in making product decisions to best serve our users, rather than just what we would have signed off on. At the end of the initial MVP development they delivered a product we were very happy with.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Cleveroad could have done differently?

Not that I can think of. We were very happy with the overall service.

I’m the owner of a tech health company called OptimallyMe.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cleveroad?

We needed to develop a web application with a unique backend dashboard where users can track their health. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cleveroad has developed our web application using Node.js for the backend development and React.js for the frontend. Our discovery phase lasted three weeks, and we initially gave Cleveroad references about other websites. 

A different company created the site’s UI/UX design, and Cleveroad has developed it from scratch. Cleveroad has also helped us connect our web platform to mobile devices using Flutter. 

What is the team composition?

We work with a team of 8–10 specialists from Cleveroad, including a business analyst, two QA specialists, front- and backend developers, and DevOps engineers.  

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around €350,000 (approximately $380,000 USD) with Cleveroad.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began the discovery phase in July 2022 and engaged officially with Cleveroad in August 2022, and we’re still working together.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Cleveroad has met our expectations and works in a professional way. We’re a small and resourceful team, and Cleveroad has adapted to our requirements. Moreover, Cleveroad accurately translates the designs into the development phase.

How did Cleveroad perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira for project management and Slack to communicate on a regular basis. We also have weekly meetings and email correspondence. Cleveroad always attends our meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with Cleveroad’s professional team structure. I have experience working in software development, and Cleveroad has a well-structured team. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Cleveroad could improve their QA work. Sometimes, I’ve noticed they don’t use accurate data or type random characters, jeopardizing the resulting information. Although Cleveroad has delivered what we’ve asked, it’s hard to follow up on their work sometimes.

Moreover, it was hard for Cleveroad to understand our project’s scope at the beginning of our engagement because they didn’t have much experience in our field. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend having a design before you start the development phase. This will help to have a seamless frontend development.
