I’m the president and COO of JPMA, Inc., an IT company. We provide the WICShopper mobile app to 36 state and tribal women, infants, and children (WIC) programs.

What challenge were you trying to address with Briebug?

Our company was going through a difficult time, and we lost a key developer for our project. We needed a partner who could help us redevelop the platform under a new, modern framework.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, Briebug took over the existing platform to help us keep it stable. Then, we worked with them to completely redevelop the platform, including the frontend and backend. The work was quite in-depth and required full-stack development skill sets. The main deliverables were a new app built under modern frameworks, along with new backend administration tools and API endpoints.

I had known Jesse (CEO) for several years. We chose Briebug because they were close to my geographic location and had a great culture fit.

We’ve spent around $4 million.

We started working with Briebug in April 2016, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve seen a stable product, new features, and several custom projects with our agency clients. Our user base has increased by approximately 1 million monthly users since the start of the project. The older platform had reliability issues, but the new platforms have been extremely reliable, with 99.5% uptime.

How did Briebug perform from a project management standpoint?

Briebug generally delivers on time. We communicate primarily via messaging apps and have daily standup meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Briebug’s ability to bring in different developers with different skill sets is impressive. We have created very robust feature sets.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Communication was sometimes an issue in the earlier days, which caused developers to spend time in directions we didn’t want them to. However, those issues have been resolved with better project management by both Briebug and JPMA.

We needed to refactor our platform to allow us to scale. We originally went with an offshore company, which was initially inexpensive but then became extraordinary to maintain and nearly impossible to update. We needed a company that had experience doing this but also aligned with our core values of social impact and could quickly conceptualize what we needed.

Briebug refactored our platform and enhanced usability and features. We started with the backend and then began working and deploying the frontend. We needed to up our security and allow for lots of data and users while still being fast.

We established an agile process to groom sprints to make sure goals were being achieved. Briebug's work resulted in a high number of tickets, client NPS scores, client renewals, and enhancements. We had an NPS score of 8.8.
