I was trying to develop my MVP for my company. I wanted to develop the first version of my site and start testing with some customers before going to the next stages of my business plan.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They did all the backend development, and they created our code and wireframes for the site using MongoDB. On top of that, they built a dashboard for the site that could manage our content, upload our products, and more. Our site is now in beta form, and Binary Marvels continues to update it. 

Essentially, we want our site to be a destination for black consumers globally and to make it easy for them to search for beauty, skin, and hair care products. Our target consumers also see comments from other fellow consumers regarding the products we have on our platform.

What we’re doing is helping black consumers make better-informed buying decisions by learning about products that we’ve partnered with. A lot of the brands that we have on-site are also companies for which we produce marketing campaigns, and we help those companies connect with black consumers.

When my friends and I found Binary Marvels, we were impressed with the level of transparency that Abdul had shown us. He showed us the backend of the platforms they developed on Heroku. Abdul also answered our questions properly, and we were able to deep dive into his decade of experience as well as his team’s. It was daunting having to work with a company overseas, but our conversations with Abdul made me feel comfortable and confident that his company was capable of doing the work we wanted to accomplish.

Our site looks great, and we’ve been getting positive feedback from external stakeholders.  My friends who are UI/UX developers have been impressed with the design of the site. My other friends who are also working for big companies and startups and have raised millions of dollars have been making sure that I get what I need from the engagement.

It’s never just me and Abdul and his team — I’m supported by my friends since I’m a marketer and I don’t know how to code to save my life. Overall, the project has been running smoothly and everything looks good. 

Binary Marvels has made quick progress for every week that they’ve worked on our project. They’re professional, timely, responsive, and knowledgeable. We’re in the process of raising funds with investors since we plan to have internal developers. We also plan to continue creating our app since we’re done with the MVP, and we still want to collaborate with Binary Marvels.

Their quick turnaround time has been amazing.

There have been a few hiccups including when I kept telling them to make sure the brand name of our products is shown instead of just simply displaying the product name. I insisted on that because I know that people won’t be looking for product names when they search; instead, they’ll be searching for the brand name of a specific product so that they can view what they’re looking for. 

We’ve had a lot of back and forth in this area, and it still needs some work to be perfect. Recently, they've been able to follow that request but it took them a long time to finally integrate my suggestion. As such, moving forward, they should pay closer attention to details. Other than that, everything has been fine and going smoothly.

Make sure you communicate everything from the beginning and don’t assume that they know how to do something and expect that something’s going to happen. You need to be very intentional in your communication and organize your requests.

We would use them for different sub-projects, and we would send them wireframes or mockups that had been created by another vendor, and they took care of everything in the creation process. We also follow trouble shooting system via ticket bases, where they have address and solved any issues efficiently.
