Real-time voice pipeline moved from frequent mid-session failures to consistently completing full 20-minute lessons end-to-end, audio playback resumes from. failure point, critical FERPA/COPPA items incorporated, production readiness, pilots launched in 3 classes

Project management was a real strength of working with Bakson. We ran 2–3 weekly standups of 15–20 minutes, with ongoing communication on Slack between meetings, which gave us a steady rhythm without ever feeling like overhead. Deliverables consistently landed on time. Across a scope that included AI pipeline stabilization, compliance work, new lesson content, and production hardening, they hit their commitments and flagged tradeoffs early when something needed to shift. What stood out most was their transparency and communication style. As a non-technical founder, I never felt talked down to or talked past. Their engineer had a knack for explaining technical decisions — why a particular fallback mechanism mattered, what the tradeoffs were between approaches, what the compliance implications of a design choice would be — in a way I could actually engage with and make informed decisions on. That made our planning conversations genuinely productive rather than me just rubber-stamping technical choices I didn't understand. They were also responsive to changing needs. When new pilot-readiness items emerged or compliance questions came up mid-project, they reprioritized thoughtfully rather than rigidly sticking to the original scope.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

First, their ability to take a fragile AI prototype and turn it into something genuinely production-ready. Real-time voice AI is hard — you're stitching together three different providers (speech-to-text, LLM, text-to-speech) over WebSockets, and any one of them failing mid-session breaks the experience. Bakson Ltd didn't just patch the obvious bugs; they thought through the failure modes systematically — reconnection logic, audio buffering, fallback paths, retry strategies — and built a pipeline that recovers gracefully instead of dying. That kind of engineering discipline is rare, especially on AI projects where it's easy to chase features instead of stability. Second, the way their engineer communicated with me as a non-technical founder. He explained tradeoffs and technical decisions in a way I could actually understand and weigh in on, without ever being condescending or hand-wavy. I came out of our conversations smarter about my own product, which is not something I can say about every technical partner I've worked with. The combination — deep technical capability plus genuine communication — is what made the engagement feel like a true partnership rather than just outsourced development.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Bakson Ltd could have done differently?

Honestly, very little. If I had to pick something, it would be around end-of-project technical documentation. Given how much was built — the AI pipeline stabilization work, the compliance flows, the session tracking architecture — I would have valued a more comprehensive written handoff covering system architecture, key design decisions, and operational runbooks for future maintenance. We got what we needed to keep moving, but a more formal documentation package would make onboarding future engineers or revisiting decisions down the road easier. That's a minor note on what was otherwise excellent work. The engineering quality and communication throughout the project were both top-tier.

•  teams of engineers who could engage directly in upstream code contributions to a variety of open source projects 
• those engineers needed to be proven self-starting open-source evangelists that can earn respect from their respective open-source communities we needed those teams to be assembled quickly to meet the demand of the customer

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have been collaborating with Bakson since early 2021 and we absolutely love working with them. Bakson is a great partner for finding the right talents for open source development that we do as part of Insight Softmax Consulting. Currently, we have more than five full-time engineers hired through Bakson. These engineers are working on improving multiple open source products, such as LightGBM, DASOS, XGBoost, Armada, and DataHub. 

Through this work, some of the team has become core committers of such significant projects as Kubernetes and Apache. In addition to the software-development-focused members, we have a small DevOps team hired through Bakson that looks after the health and hyginene of all of our open-source projects.

They are very efficient and reliable and we would be adrift in a sea of CI/CD chaos without them.
