For a period of time, Hopper had a huge list of new features they wanted to implement and were requested by end-users. Unfornutaly, Hopper didn’t have developers available to perform the required updates. Hopper decided to hire an offshore team for iOS and Android applications and Axon was an excellent match.

What were your goals for this project?

The primary goal for Hopper was to extend the core development team, that is currently located in Copenhagen and deliver a specified list of functionalities that were requested by commercial end-users.

Hopper searched for a team of iOS and Android developers that had real-world experience with BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), geo-positioning services and optimal usage of CPU/Memory on mobile devices. Axon's team had all the requisite experience.

Ooga hired Axon to build an MVP of Web and Mobile applications. The big idea envisioned was to integrated a number of financial institutions in Israel. The reason for hiring Axon was their hands-on experience in building software solutions for the fin-tech industry.

The goal was to deliver a Web application such as MVP with specific functionality that allows Ooga to enter the market by enlisting new commercial users and receive additional investment in order to deliver a full-scale financial product.

Misunderstanding and miscommunication are a large part of product development collaboration. However, Axon’s expertise and attention to detail led to higher standards in the development of our software and prevented cost overruns in order to provide a high-quality product.

Project management was partially performed on the Axon’s side and it complied with my requirements. I was involved in direct team management at some points but most of routine PM tasks were performed by Axon PM. I was satisfied with the level of engagement in the project by every team member. We maintained constant communication through every stage of the development process. We used Jira and Bitbucket.

The project consisted of a full one-to-one conversion of an iOS app to an Android counterpart. The vendor performed requirements analys and provided estimates for the project. They proactively suggested minor adjustments in the design to accommodate for the differences in UI between iOS and Android which I very much appreciated. They also suggested an agile method for development where digital tools helped me follow the progress and keep an eye on what they were focusing on in their weekly sprints.

The team that was engaged in the development process included an Android Developer, QA Engineer, UI Designer, Business Analyst, and a Project Manager.

The Android client will give us a greater reach and the possibility to expand to a larger audience.

Axon has exceeded my expectations. I was impressed by their level of professionalism and the focus on structure in the project. They have delivered timely releases and responded very quickly to questions and suggestions. They have also been proactive in their communication, and this has ensured that the project has progressed smoothly and without any issues at all.

We use Jira for requirements, Slack for communications and Bitbucket for sourcecode/development. I have been able to follow the progress of the project in detail and have greatly enjoyed working with the team.

I’m the founder of goMkt. We are a sustainability startup. We help food businesses with surplus inventory identify buyers, and drive foot traffic to those buyers’ locations.

What challenge were you trying to address with Axon Development Group?

We wanted to build an app that supported our goal to reduce food waste and support small business in New York.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They offer a host of design and software services. They developed my app using React Native—a cross-platform hybrid network—instead of developing iOS and Android apps separately, which saved me a lot of money. They also developed a little site for me, and they've done a bit of UX and design work on the app, in addition to the software development.

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with Yuriy [CEO, Axon Development Group], and also Dimitri [Director of Business Development, Axon Development Group].

How did you come to work with Axon Development Group?

We were using a freelancer platform, but we were only getting average work from the providers we found there. When we wanted to change, I reached out to a friend at Google, who recommended Axon.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together somewhere in 2017, either in late summer or early fall. They’ve built an MVP, but we’re still tweaking things and building a roadmap. The project is ongoing as we evaluate additions to the product.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We recently finished the MVP, so we will have more information once we do more marketing. Axon did a fantastic job building the app. They’re very technically proficient, and we haven’t experienced any lags or poor quality. Yuriy and Dimitri are very good teammates, with a lot of good recommendations for structure, UX, testing, and different methodologies. They’re very good at consultation and making sure I’ve done things properly.

The next steps are on our side, but we’re very satisfied with their work to date. If I had gone with a company elsewhere, I would have paid a lot more for an inferior product. These guys are good, and we’re really satisfied.

How did Axon Development Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They perform very well. We did all of our project management within Jira, and they invited me to be a part of all the sprints. I have some familiarity with the process, but they did better than any other development shop I’ve used. They’re very good about implementing my recommendations, and the whole process has been pretty seamless.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very quick to address bugs, and we always had good contact and communication with them. I’ve only worked with two other development shops, but they out-performed both of them. I’m very satisfied with their work. They continue to provide support, their prices are reasonable, and I’m happy with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any criticisms for them. Any software development project has bumps in the road, but they’ve done a fantastic job catering to whatever we asked them to do.
