I’m the founder of a project called OneSave/Day, and we’re currently transforming into a nonprofit organization.

What challenge were you trying to address with appssemble?

We’ve built together with appssemble a native app that provides people a simple eco-challenge per day. Next week, we’ll launch the iOS mobile application, and we’re currently working on the Android version, which will launch in September.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started working, and we already had a clear idea of the app itself; we had already designed 80% of the screens and user flows. Then, we did a weekend workshop with appssemble to define the designs and user flows more coherently. They went through everything, polished it, and made it better. Once we finished the workshop, we started to work with them on the iOS app. They did the designs for all the screens and the whole development.

The main feature is the eco-challenge that’s displayed every day. We have features to share the challenge and record short video messages to send them for motivation. On a third functionality feature, we display different groups with many topics around eco-friendly lifestyles, which is the app’s purpose. Also, users can exchange their experiences and thoughts on those topics. Our final feature is a page where users can follow their progress, see the challenges they’ve done, and more.

What is the team composition?

Since the beginning, I’ve communicated directly with the founder of appssemble, and he’s been the project manager. There’s one designer, 2–3 iOS developers, and 2–3 Android developers, so between 6–10 people are working on the project.

How did you come to work with appssemble?

I was doing some research on Google, and then I went on Clutch and found one list. It was something related to development agencies for startups. I clicked through different agencies on the list and had calls with them, but I had the best feeling with appssemble. They were close to the customer and really understood what we wanted to do. Also, they were ranked pretty well on Clutch and had many reviews already, so we trusted them.

How much have you invested with them?

On the iOS version, we’ve spent €21,000 (approximately $25,000 USD), and on the Android version, the cost will be between €16,000–€18,000 (approximately $19,000–$21,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2021, and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have any metrics so far because we haven’t launched the app. However, thanks to our partnership with appssemble and the early designs we got from them, we’ve been able to engage in a few new partnerships that are great for the project.

We’ve had a close collaboration with the founder, and it’s great to work with him and appssemble. During the development process, we adapted a feature, and it was nice how flexible they were. Also, they respond quickly, which is very convenient for us.

Finally, since the beginning of our partnership, appssemble has been interested in the product. They gave us some recommendations and best practices, which were nice to implement into the app. Since we’re not in the developing world, it’s been great to have some in the industry.

How did appssemble perform from a project management standpoint?

They do really well. From the beginning, they’ve been very structured and had a clear process, which they’ve executed well. Also, they haven’t missed any deadline, and we’ve had several where appssemble even finished earlier than planned. Overall, they’ve been convenient for us in terms of organization and project management.

We mainly communicate by email, and we have a WhatsApp group with the designer because it’s simpler to communicate there. Also, they use Jira as a project management tool, but we haven’t used it that much because we just follow the progress through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They stand out for their response rate, close collaboration, and flexibility. We work together with the director, so we talk with the person that can make the decisions instead of just a project manager. Therefore, we’ve had a super-fast response rate; he usually responds within a couple of minutes. Finally, they’ve been flexible, which was very important for us from the start.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The workshop we took initially was great, and it was highly beneficial to us as a startup. Therefore, I think the workshop could be better promoted on their website, and they could tell clients about it earlier. Other than that, I don’t have any improvements.

Try out the workshop. Then, you can see if appssemble is a fit for you and move forward without risking too much.

I needed help developing a mobile appointment app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They designed and developed a mobile app for patients to make appointments. They developed it for Android and iOS. I explain what I needed and we discussed it. They created the whole design. I had 1–2 ideas but they created all the content and helped me a lot. The app also shows personal data about patients.

What is the team composition?

I worked with their manager.

I found them online. I sent them an email. It was really easy to communicate with them.

Our work spanned January 2020 until May 2020.

What challenge were you trying to address with appssemble?

For some of our projects, we need collaborators to help us develop software. For this particular project, I needed help with mobile app development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The first project was a mobile app for a game platform. It was a fantasy football game. They helped me on the iOS version. For Android, I had a different contractor. That was a long project that took over a year to complete because of the amount of work they had to do on it.

The second project was a dating application. They’re mostly in a support tole in that effort.

The third project is a smart logbook system for logging actions based on dynamic workflows. That project is still ongoing. Whenever I have requests for mobile development, they are the first ones I call.

I’m in contact with two developers. Sometimes one of them plays a project management role as well.

How did you come to work with appssemble?

I had a request for mobile app development for some projects and started looking for possible contractors. That’s how I met appssemble.

We've spent $40,000–$50,000, possibly more.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2016 and still have ongoing contracts.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had a good collaboration. The quality of work has always very good, and we didn’t have any issues. 

We’ve had projects where they work directly with the client, which was always very well received with positive feedback from our clients. They’re very careful to avoid quality issues— we didn’t have any. That’s why we still maintain our collaboration with them.

They’re trustworthy and deliver on time most almost always. They’re doing a very good job compared to other contractors I’ve had.  

How did appssemble perform from a project management standpoint?

We were in direct contact with the developers. When we needed project management work as well, they were capable in managing expectations and handling management tasks. I’m happy with that as well. 

We have calls when needed. We’re well adjusted to remote working. We can easily communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re serious, trustworthy, and able to deliver quality. They’re experts in mobile app development. I don’t hesitate to go to them for help.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Usually, we discuss any improvement points when they happen. They’re flexible and react to our needs. I can’t pinpoint any pending improvement points. They could potentially diversify their expertise to other technologies.

You will get a serious team and high-quality deliverables from them. It’s just a matter of contracting them and the terms of the contract.

What challenge were you trying to address with appssemble?

One of my ideas was to build a suite of apps and software. However, I can’t code, so I needed someone to build out my app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I had already drafted a product requirement document (PRD) with mockups, which I gave to appssemble. They then created a free iPhone game. People can buy coins or watch ads to get more coins.

What is the team composition?

Dragos (Co-Founder) was my main point of contact.

How did you come to work with appssemble?

I told a former colleague of mine about my ideas, and he referred me to a developer that he knew in Romania, who was Dragos. I reached out to him to see what services the company offered. I gave them my PRD and we negotiated into making it a multi-year deal. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve agreed to a €25,000 (approximately $30,600 USD) contract to build three apps. 

What is the status of this engagement?

They built the first version from October–December 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app passed iOS review on the first try. There were very few bugs, which was encouraging. The quality of the work was exactly what I paid for. Everybody likes the app, so far, and the feedback has been good. Some people have already begun to make suggestions on how to improve it. 

How did appssemble perform from a project management standpoint?

The fact that they completed the app in one and a half months was impressive. We used Slack for communication, and their English was up to the native level. We also used Google Docs to communicate changes and comments. appssemble was quite flexible. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve built their own apps and have worked with some large companies as well. Additionally, their prices are quite affordable. I was impressed with their communication and promptness; it felt like they were my own team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would’ve been nice to have had a designer on the project, but for the budget we agreed to, that option wasn’t available. I ended up having to provide all of the graphics.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have an initial call with appssemble and see if you have a similar vision.

What challenge were you trying to address with appssemble?

We wanted to create an app to make it easy for our clients to achieve what we want them to achieve.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

apppssemble developed a mobile app for iOS and Android. Clients can use the app to track their calorie intake. They handled everything from start to finish; we just gave them the idea we had, and they ran with it. The team added a location feature so that users can see where they are, and they made the login seamless. They also integrated data.

What is the team composition?

We mainly speak to Dragos (CEO). It’s nice that we don’t have to relay messages to more than one person. 

How did you come to work with appssemble?

I found them through Clutch. I looked at the top 10–20 best app designers, and appssemble popped up. I spoke to quite a few people and did my research. When I spoke to appssemble, everything was quite seamless; we had a Google Meet, and the energy was great. They were very understanding. They stood out in terms of what we were looking for.

I’ve spent €30,000–€35,000 (approximately $35,100–$41,000 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our initial talks began in February 2020, and the signoff took a couple of months. They still maintain the app’s backend and are making a few changes.

They’re very easy to work with. We came up with the idea for the app and had a semi-design, but we’re not too technical, so they were very helpful with design and coming up with strategic ideas. It’s been hand-on-hand. They actually deliver quicker than they promise.

How did appssemble perform from a project management standpoint?

They are absolutely amazing. They use Firebase.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The communication has impressed me most. They’re responsive at all times. Sometimes, we come up with an idea at 10 PM, and I send them a message. They respond that they’ll work on it, and by the next day, they’ll literally start implementing the idea.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t really have anything to say at the moment that they need to improve on. They’re pretty great.

If you have an idea, appssemble will definitely execute what you want to achieve.

appssemble made this app for Android tablets because we only have Android tablets. However, the app could also be used on iOS. The platform’s for internal use, allowing us to schedule our patients for doctors, procedures, treatment rooms, and ambulances.

I worked with two people from appssemble.

I found them through a colleague who studied in the same city as the owners of appssemble. I also read their reviews on Clutch.

We have a lot of patients, and it was difficult for us to have an overview and schedule them. The app makes our lives easier every day. Our logistics are much easier.

How did appssemble perform from a project management standpoint?

They stuck to the project's deadlines. We had weekly meetings when they showed us their progress and challenges. It’s not easy to work with doctors because we have no IT skills. Their team took our ideas and made them better.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team was accessible, engaged, and devoted to their work. They helped us to understand everything, which wasn’t easy because we don't have IT skills. We had a positive experience. In the future, we plan to expand and will definitely engage appssemble.

We were working on new designs for our floor mats. They helped us create an app for selling our products.

They created an app that lets customers download, place, and configure car floor mats virtually. People can use their phone’s camera to see how a product would look in their vehicle, which is great for customers who are curious about the products. In addition to visualizing the products, the apps allow customers to make purchases. The product was created for both iOS and Android users.

Initially, I found their services on Facebook. They were nice people to speak with during our early conversations. I’m from Romania, so we connected over that shared quality.
