We ran a probably ridiculously intensive search to find the right partner for this project. We spoke with over 60 agencies, shortlisted to ~20, shortlisted again to 5, and then selected Antagosoft. We reviewed in depth proposals from the 20, we conducted reference checks with the final 5, and we pushed every agency on multiple aspects of the agreement. 

From the first call Antagosoft stood out from the rest, they actually read what was shared in advance (rare), they had brought interesting ideas and insights (even more rare), and they displayed a high level of competence.  

Antagosoft quickly helped us build the initial MVP and they have helped us to continue developing it into a fuller product. Their scope included reviewing our product requirements, translating those requirements into technical tasks, building the core application, and continuously iterating based on feedback and new priorities.

What stood out most was their ability to quickly understand the domain and bring genuinely useful insights and product sense. We worked with Antagosoft to completely overhaul our web app that lets our customers view to access the data that we produce and visualise it to help drive decision making. Antagosoft were responsible for the complete re-design and development of the platform which is built using React/NextJS.

We met Russ through a mutual contact and we were immediately attracted to their flexibility and willingness to accommodate our ways of working. Initially, we were using freelance resources which we had selected ourselves and we needed an agency that would fit that model. Over time, we were so pleased with the results that we transitioned to using Antagosoft exclusively for our web development and design.

Antagosoft was charged with the complete design and development of our web platform, which allows users to access and visualise the data that we produce, manage their accounts, commission traffic surveys and to buy further subscriptions.

The nature of our platform means that we have a number of custom UI and data visualisation elements including a number of complex interactive maps and various custom input tools to allow users to calibrate cameras and surveys.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Working with Russ and the team has been a fantastic experience. We've achieved more in a couple of months that we did in the proceeding 6 using our own sourced freelancers. We are consistently blown away by the quality of the work and the speed at which it is delivered. This experience has opened our eyes to the art of the possible, and we will continue using them for the foreseeable future.

Communication has been great throughout. The team have adopted our management tools really well, including Clickup, Teams and Figma. We meet once a week for a quick catch-up but generally, all communication flows seamlessly through the tools we are using.

Quality of output - our app is 100x better than when they started Speed - sometimes I worry how much they must be working to deliver at this pace!

Seriously, we have no complaints. The only way it could be better is if they were sitting in our office :)

The team are based in Ukraine where there is currently a war on. We were so impressed at how professional the team were, how they were always on time, how productive they were, and how they as people were always positive and always so friendly to meet!

Maybe the process flows could be documented as flow diagrams / visio etc. but it was not really required.

We were struggling to deliver on our product roadmap and Antago helped us by assigning a dedicated development team. The team included a frontend developer and a backend developer. We also had support from a tester and project manager.

Their goals were to deliver product features alongside our inhouse team. They had to work together and negotiate technical requirements and propose solutions as well as deliver the finished product.

Andtago was referred to me by an industry aquantance who used them before. He said they were 100% committed and professional which was very important to us. We evaluated the CVs of the developers who were available and selected two of them based on their skills and experience.

The Antago team worked alongside out inhouse team. They were assigned tasks from the same backlog and followed the same development process. They attended standup meetings where we discussed the next deliverable that was due. They asked questions and completed research into the stated requirements and any technical dilemas.

They pushed code to our company git repository by creating pull requests which were reviewed and integrated into our main development branch by the same process as our internal staff. During the time they worked on the project they delivered 10 new features to help photographers enter metadata into a digital asset management system. They also solved some infrastructure challenges around email delivery.

The delivery of assigned tasks was very fast and the team readily accepted feedback and was quick to action it. The team was genuinely motivated, curious and wanted to integrate with us and adopt our practices and culture. I found it easy to communicate with them over slack and video conferences.

We used JIRA to assign and describe tasks. They were proactive in asking questions through JIRA comments which was great. They attended standup meetings and came prepared with good relevant questions. They readily accepted feedback and were quick to action it.

Rus was great at checking in with us to make sure everything was going smoothly and was quick to suggest and offer improvements when the project was facing minor issues.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was impressed with their level of motivation, which I found to be unparalleled in the outsourcing world. They also seemed to maintain good focus and generally delivered on time with little or no rework needed.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We occasionally ran into communication issues due to the highly specialised nature of our domain (professional prohotgraphy). Sometimes we had to adjust the way we set out requirements to make them clearer. This was only at the very start of the project and the team quickly picked up the jargon and started using it themselves.

After receiving the files we proceeded to test the site on our side but found no errors. The style and code were 1:1 of the design files.

The visualization process of moving from a concept to a design took longer than I thought it would. They did a wonderful job, but the designer should be able to ask they key questions before the client notices a problem. They would benefit from improving their design logistics.
