Our project is a custom HTML mobile first online directory with several features that require significant technical expertise and creative problem solving. I had successfully completed a 6 month project led by Marta when she was working with Empeek in 2019. When she announced she was launching a boutique agency with highly skilled partners on LinkedIn, I filed it in my rolodex for the next project.

Describe the project in detail.

virtualstorefront.co: The project is a Local Search Engine with significant development and development challenges. The app pins the user to a custom location. The app internally measures the distance after a single query to Google Maps API between the user pin and every business profile in the app data base. It's fast, effective and easy to use.

The Search Engine uses a keyword as filter search that allows for more refined AND searches. Keyword clouds, keyword links and keyword filters are used throughout the product in various ways, all well executed.

Front end layout design was provided, but HTML implementation solutions and mobile first UI that actually works in a web-based app were the domain of the team. They performed this challenging job admirably and were very cooperative in how they handled my direction as a client.

What was the team composition?

Account Manager, Marta. Project Manager, Victor. A development team of minimum 2 developers on front and back working in a scrum, I assume.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

It works. It works very well. Customers love their Storefronts. I can access and use the backend (Symfony) very easily.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Victor was such a seamless interface, I never had to work directly with the actual developers - an impressive feat for Project Management on a fairly technical project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Small and powerful. I also like the name AreasCode. It's both quaint and professional. But at the end of the day, it's the people who are impressive. English is outstanding across the board. Translation from discussion to technical execution is outstanding. Timeliness and attention is excellent.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Within reasonable expectations, there is nothing I would change. Improvement for a company working at this level is maintaining this level of service past an early client.

I’m the R&D lead at BES, a prefab-ready building information modeling (BIM) solutions company for electrical contractors. We offer modeling, shop drawings, QA/QC, and coordination to streamline preconstruction and installation while reducing field risks and surprises.

We needed help developing a custom Slack AI assistant.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AltheraCode developed a custom Slack AI assistant that helps us navigate complex regulatory documents of varying quality, from scanned copies to intricate PDFs with tables. The tool also serves as an internal knowledge base assistant, providing quick answers based on our company’s training materials.

AltheraCode provided the proof of concept (POC) and manuals to scale the product to the big challenges and new features. The team also provided training on the correct usage of the final product.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

AltheraCode worked seamlessly with our R&D team, demonstrating high-level professionalism throughout the product launch. Their client-oriented approach was invaluable; they guided us in selecting the optimal neural models and provided comprehensive documentation for implementation and maintenance. I’m particularly grateful for the hands-on consultation sessions they conducted for our staff. We’re extremely satisfied with the results and look forward to future collaborations.

We’ve reduced the time it takes to find the right information in the large amount of documentation we have by around four hours per search on average. The time varies depending on the level of knowledge of the specialist.

We’ve also reduced the number of errors in finding relevant information from regulatory documentation, as the assistant clearly quotes the text of the regulatory document. Although we, of course, check whether it quoted the section correctly, no critical errors have been noticed yet.

Currently, the assistant has also been able to remove some of the questions from junior specialists who aren’t familiar with the company's training materials and took up the time of senior specialists on quick tips on where to find the target information.

How did AltheraCode perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered everything on time, and communication from management was regular and high-quality. We were always aware of the progress of their work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One of our requests was to find a relatively optimal solution in terms of cost and quality of the document parsing model. An additional condition was that we might end up with low-quality documents or old scans of documents. AltheraCode chose the optimal model for us so that we could work with different documents, which helped us a lot.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We expected that communication with AltheraCode’s developers would be more difficult due to the saturation of complex technical terms, which could make it difficult for us to understand each other. However, everything turned out to be the opposite. They were very customer-oriented and explained their steps and choices in accessible language so that everyone could understand everything at any level. They also communicated well with our technical specialists.
