The Green Fins Hub is the first-ever global marine tourism industry platform, helping operators to make simple, cost-efficient changes to their daily practices by utilising tried and tested solutions, keep track of their annual improvements and communicate with their communities and customers.

Abstract Digital took our product vision and Software Requirements Specification and shipped a platform that exceeded our expectations.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We deployed the Green Fins Hub MVP in Septmember 2022 and continued to iterate the functionality for another 18 months. In its first year of operation 159 businesses registered to become Green Fins Digital Members, the number of countries with Green Fins members grew from 14 to 69.

The project was featured by the British Computer Society and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The project ran through the pandemic which meant that we relaxed the timeline for delivery so that both teams could prioritise their satefy wellbeing.

The execution at every stage has been world-class, from design to user testing and software engineering.

Nothing especially stands out – every software project of this size will have its bumps but the team working on Green Fins Hub responded really well to the challenges along the way.

There are too many projects to list in detail.  We have had projects analyzing big data and quallity control of inputs. The company has created several custom APIs.  They have managed our software platforms on an ongoing basis. They have created complicated reports for our clients.

We have been able to reduce inefficiencies within the business and provide important deliverables to our customers' requests. Their work output has always been complete - nothing was ever left "hanging".  

Their employees are organized and very smart as well as proactive with their suggestions and alternatives. They are pleasant to work with, adaptable, reliable, willing, and have great attitudes. They are also very current with respect to programs, platforms, and trends.  I could not ask for a better partner!

I’m a strategic advisor at Proximity Point Group. This group is developing a new city in Kenya for the African diaspora around the world. We offer the possibility of buying a piece of land and living in a new city in Kenya.

What challenge were you trying to address with Apt Software?

We needed to create a website that showcased our master plan and vision for this new city, contributing to our brand awareness strategy. Additionally, we asked Apt Software to develop interactive software where potential buyers could see the land lots available for sale and make a deposit if they wished to.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we provided Apt Software with an overview of our company. Our CEO shared the master plan document and our vision with them, as well as the location of the city on Google Maps. Apt Software developed the website using WordPress and created our brand guidelines, providing us with color schemes and the city's branding. 

Additionally, Apt Software helped us create a sales funnel using Groove.cm even before the interactive software was finished; they created a new website and sales funnel specifically for buying land lots.

For the interactive software, Apt Software used edge detection machine learning software, although I don't know the specific tools they employed. This software allows users to scroll through the city, click on a particular plot of land, and pull it up to see its dimensions and location.

I worked with a team of four people from Apt Software throughout the project. My main point of contact was the project manager, and I also worked with a developer and a tester. 

How did you come to work with Apt Software?

I connected with one of Apt Software's founders through a business platform. I looked at their work and decided to reach out and ask if they could help me with this project. 

How much have you invested with them?

We invested $6,000 with Apt Software.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August–December 2021. Currently, we don't work with Apt Software on an ongoing basis, but we contact them when we need something specific, and they do that assigned project for us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

In the first quarter after the website was launched, we sold $100,000 through the site. The branding Apt Software created for us gave us credibility, and that contributed to our sales. We also did webinars to show the new website and its features, and this was really helpful in closing sales deals.

How did Apt Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Apt Software delivered everything we asked for on time and stayed on budget. They provided us with great follow-up and asked for the information and assets they needed from us in order to deliver the work on time. We mainly communicated through Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed with Apt Software's ability to offer tailored solutions to their clients. They went above and beyond and truly exceeded our expectations. From the beginning, they were clear and upfront about our project's limitations and reach; they asked what our problem was, our timeline, and our budget and offered us a solution according to that.

Apt Software understood our project and offered us more resources and solutions as time went on. They were responsive, customized the work according to our needs, and ended up doing more than what we initially asked them to do. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything for Apt Software to improve as far as their work. They have an opportunity to market their business beyond just the software development industry. They did much more than that for us and helped us with our business strategy.

I recommend being clear about the problem that you need to solve. Listen to Apt Software and ask if they have the capability and resources to solve it. Overall, have clear communication about the project you're trying to address and the expectations you have for it.

Apt Software was technically proficient and worked seamlessly throughout the partnership. They were able to collaborate with another third-party vendor without supervision, and they consistently kept me in the loop throughout process thanks to their excellent communication skills.

Moreover, we appreciate how they were able to document every aspect of the development, so now I have a manual that will help me bring new employees on board.

They were highly responsive from a project management perspective. We used Notion to manage the process and typically communicated through Zoom and email.
