The client came to me because they wanted to improve a few pages on their current site. After reviewing the site with 247 Labs and discovering that the template was outdated and unresponsive, we decided that the best approach was to overhaul the site entirely. The scope of work grew significantly, from 5 to 12 pages. I designed the pages on a WordPress template, but 247 Labs was extremely accommodating with customizations. Our client was extremely detail-oriented. 247 Labs remained extremely patient and easy to work with despite a growing list of customizations and delays.

I was the designer and middleman, corresponding with both the client and 247 Labs. On 247 Labs' side, they provided a project manager and developers, although I'm not sure how many worked on the project. The owner supervised the project but was not involved with its day-to-day progress.

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

The site looks fabulous and works exactly as it was designed. It's extremely responsive and looks good on every format. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the project and grateful for 247 Lab's patience throughout the process.

How effective was the project management?

Between the owner and the project manager, I felt that my project was always being given attention and consideration. If there were any shortcomings, they were my own. I wish I had connected the team at 247 Labs directly to the client.

Their patience. This was not an easy project.

I prefer phone calls over Skype, so I wish they would offer that.

We needed a customized project tracker that would seamlessly integrate with a WordPress website. While there are several project tracking plugins available, the client was very specific about its look, feel, and usability.

What were your goals for this project?

The challenge was to create a desktop application hosted on the client's intranet that would update seamlessly with touch devices located throughout the shop floor and staged at various production stations.

We had worked with them before on a custom API for a complex membership software program.

We provided a detailed scope with examples and allowed them to take our basic design and expand it into something that truly functioned well out of the box. There were several updates and modifications required along the way, including the usual client add-ons once they start experiencing the solution’s potential.

Explain how the solution addressed your business challenge.

We took an antiquated Excel-based workflow/project tracking system and fully automated it, complete with user accountability. The workflow is improved, the reporting is real-time, and any issues are immediately brought to a manager´s attention for quicker resolution.

What was the team composition?

They produced two coders, a designer, and a project manager. We worked with them in an offline environment to fine tune the project prior to its presentation. Modifications and final testing were conducted flawlessly.

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

Our proposed solution has streamlined the client's production reporting process and assists in identifying weak production points. Our client's interaction with their end client has improved as production communication and due dates are far more accurate. Also, error reporting has dramatically enhanced quality control and production efficiency.

Working with their team was efficient and effective—several tweaks and recodes were handled quickly and correctly.

They brought the project in on time, within budget, and it simply works.

What tips or recommendations do you have?

I would recommend being very specific with your scope description and be sure to review it with both your client and 247 Labs Inc. It’s better and more cost effective to double check.

We had a government project that required more resources than we had available internally. We needed outside support.

What was the scope of their involvement?

247 developed APIs for us. They started working with existing APIs and eventually began to develop them as well. They developed both the user interface, working with the designer to create the appropriate calls, and the backend database to trigger the calls to the APIs. They built a hybrid technology that incorporated PHP, .NET and a database service.

We started by using them for just a portion of the project. As they became more familiar with it, we increased their involvement.

What is the team dynamic?

The CTO was my primary contact. We also worked with a project manager, frontend designer, backend developer and a QA tester.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

We often seek out partners to work with when we need additional resources. We had occasionally worked with 247 on small, low-level projects many years before. We had forgotten about them until I was referred back to them by someone.

How much have you invested with them?

The project has grown since we started. It’s ongoing and we’ve added more components, so we’ve invested quite a bit with them. It’s likely to reach $250,000 if not $500,00.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September or October 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client required certain deliverables in order to move to the next phase of the project. Because 247 was able to deliver on time and with quality, we were able to continue and add more components, which we’re working on now. We’ve been able to get more business as a result of their work.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re really on top of everything. We’ve seen improvements in efficiency as they’ve learned the project. Speed has increased and quality has improved. They also altered the team composition to ensure they were delivering quality.

They were accurate in setting timelines and they delivered on time. In the event of delays – which were often not their fault but delays from the client or other teams – they communicated these in advance. They stuck to the project plan and kept us informed. The project manager helped keep things on track.

We’ve used several project management tools like Basecamp and Redbook, and communicate through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Customer service is great. They took the time to understand exactly what was required. They delivered on time and with great quality – which not all companies do. They meet deadlines but the quality is what has exceeded my expectations.

I think that many companies will take time to respond. 247 responds quickly. There’s always someone who is quick to answer a question so we can move forward.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As long as there's communication from both sides, the project will be successful. I know 247 does their part on communication so it’s up to the client to do so too.

I’m the co-founder of a company that provides monthly membership encouraging people to live fully and mindfully. Through our monthly membership, we send monthly art and guides to people around the world based on 12 different themes. The themes are based on positive psychology, the science of mindfulness, and ancient philosophy. Our membership has grown over the years and a big part of that is we have an upgraded interface for our customers to learn about what we offer and the checkout experience. 247 Labs definitely had a hand in developing that work to spec. The feedback has been positive. It’s been a very smooth transition. For the most part, everything has been budget and within scope. There has been a huge improvement on the upgraded website.

They performed well. We didn’t have too much interaction, but they were always very responsive. We spoke on a week by week basis. We communicated mostly through Jira and sometimes Google Docs and InVision.

Have a really clear idea of what you’re looking for. If you’re doing web development, have the design laid out and have a clear vision. That helps move things along really quickly. That’s not specific to them, but for everybody.

Their team varies. For the past 7–9 months, we’ve worked with 7–8 frontend people. There are people on the backend who take care of their infrastructure, making sure that everything works as smoothly as possible. We’ve also worked with a Scrum master, a QA tester, and a QA engineer.

They are very cognizant of timelines, which is a huge plus from a project management perspective. They understand the intricacies of having to meet deliverables for an external client. Most of the time, they’re on point with any requirements, updates, and schedules. They try to respond as best as they can. Their ability to scale up as needed is very convenient, and they can quickly add more resources.

They offer comprehensive services and an interwoven team. While I’m able to go to any developer, they have a Scrum master who deals directly with their developers and assists with communication.

What challenge were you trying to address with 247 Labs?

We wanted to set ourselves apart from a branding perspective and have an online presence that would make us easy to find through local searches by way of SEO [search engine optimization]. We needed to create a website that would communicate the services that we offer to our patients, including self-check-in and a patient registration form.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a project kickoff meeting involving the project manager and a designer in which we covered all the branding details. A week or 2 later, I had rough brand logo guidelines, a few font options, signage and billboard designs, logos, emblems, stationery letterheads, and more, after which we had a revision meeting. We reached what we wanted about 2–3 weeks later and then we started working on the website, which is now live.

Patients can use our check-in feature from a kiosk in the waiting room of our clinic. It present questions about their appointment status and personal information, after which our front desk staff gets a notification for when the patient is done. It will prompt them to either approach the front desk (either to fill in new information or set up an appointment) or wait to be called. Our registration form is a simple online form for patients to fill out, the same as when you go to a medical office.

The platforms are controlled manually. My staff gets a notification whenever a patient submits something and then they input that information in our booking software, which is a different system that someone else created. Since we’re still adding onto the site, the SEO has been paused because I haven’t had the time to dedicate to the briefing they need.

There were 7 guys involved throughout the process. They weren’t working all at once but rather at different stages. The main person is Nazar, the project manager, and we also had a quality assurance specialist that would review any issues.

I searched on Google and compared a few places. We were recommended to choose 247 Labs for their branding and web expertise. I also liked their taste.

The project cost has been $7,900 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in August 2017. All the branding and website development has been completed, so we will soon pursue SEO. I also want to see what else they have for marketing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The project went faster than I expected; I was anticipating it would take until November but we were done by the end of September. I also didn’t expect the branding process to go smoothly as there were lots of color modifications. They didn’t nitpick on the only 2 or 3 revisions we did, however, the logo itself had 6 revisions.

I haven’t had any crashes or faulty links on my end. I’ve tried the website on mobile and had my staff test all the buttons, and we haven’t had any issues. The only hiccup was when they were ready to receive content and images for the website and I didn’t have everything ready at once.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They had a superb response time, always getting back in touch within 24 hours. Many times, things were resolved the same day. We communicated through Google Hangouts.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their speed was impressive. They delivered on time and accommodated any unexpected changes.

You don’t get speed without paying for it, but I don’t have any issues with that.
