BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the co-owner of somerton creative, a Toronto based boutique agency specializing in creative design, branding, marketing, and events.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire 247 Labs Inc.?

We needed to hire 247 Labs Inc. to build our website based on our creative input and guidance.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to change the appearance of our website from a portfolio site to a full-scale agency website. We needed the complete project in a one-to-two month timeframe.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We met this vendor at a Toronto entrepreneurs trade show. We reviewed our project with them and other vendors and they were our best fit for future projects.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

We provided our vision during all phases of the project. Their team built seven web pages for our site, along with setting up 12 individual project pages. Their team also handled bringing the new site online and providing us with backup support.

What was the team composition?

I coordinated with their digital solutions consultant, technical director, project manager, and front-end developer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We launched the site only recently, but the new site better reflects who we are and serves the company well.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Within a few months, the launched platform quickly gained thousands of users, thanks to 247 Labs’ solid code. Their expert consulting, efficiency, and detailed reports have contributed to successful results.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I have a director-level role within a charity set up to help Canadian military personnel transition to civilian careers after completing their service. I was the program manager for our work with 247 Labs.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 247 Labs?

We were looking to build a platform that would connect retiring service members with employers, educational institutions, and entrepreneurial opportunities. At that time, our company had a job board in place, but it wasn’t searchable and had no automated matching capabilities.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They were initially subcontracted by our main vendor, who came from the learning space. 247 Labs was involved in two stages of the project, focusing on development work for our administration and data analytics site. Once the product was launched, 247 Labs was retained to provide support.

The platform has a MongoDB and MySQL databases. 247 Labs used Laravel PHP for development on the application side and implemented the Experience API (xAPI) for the MongoDB side. This lets us track analytics like time spent on pages and users’ progress on the learning modules.

Since our applicants have trouble describing their capabilities in civilian terms, the platform gives them the ability to create automated profiles with relevant skills. Once a user has entered the system, it also makes automated matches based on rank and military training. Candidates can quickly see the jobs they are compatible with.

The employer side also has a degree of automation, allowing recruiters to easily see which candidates are suited for certain roles. In addition, the platform has a number of learning modules about interviews, writing resumes, and negotiating salaries. We also match mentors to candidates based on different criteria.

What is the team composition?

The main project manager was from our company, while 247 Labs assigned a project manager from Ukraine. We also worked with two developers, one of whom was based in Tunisia. I met the CTO of 247 Labs in person. He also handled some development work.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

We found them through our main vendor, who retained 247 Labs as a subcontractor after one of their developers left the company. Our main vendor gave us assurance that 247 Labs could deliver on what they promised.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of their services has been in the $50,000–$60,000 range.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with 247 Labs in March or April 2017. The project was launched in September of that year. We liked their work, so we maintained our relationship with 247 Labs after terminating the contract with our main vendor. They continue to support our product.

In addition, we are about to enter the machine learning area in order to implement some job-scraping plug-ins. I don’t know what 247 Labs’ capabilities are in this area, but their CTO is a local AI expert.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve seen an impressive adoption rate within a very short time. Initially, we migrated around 7,000 candidates to the new platform. It reached 10,000 users by February 2018, which was a confirmation of the site’s design and usability. Our employer count also increased, from 300 at the time of migration to 450 by February 2018.

I’m extremely happy with 247 Labs’ work for such a fast-paced project. They have amazing capabilities for the work we’ve done so far. I would refer them to anyone in need of similar services.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Since they have a billing system that tracks the work almost to the minute, we can see what their team is doing and the completed tasks in real time. We used Jira as the main collaboration tool and Bitbucket for version control. Our management team is not very technical, so we used Google Docs for reporting.

They’re prompt and efficient. Since their developers work in different time zones, they were able to deliver tasks overnight. In contrast, a Toronto-based company would have delivered the same work in 1–2 days. At certain points, 247 Labs also worked during weekends.

What did you find most impressive about them?

247 Labs is very professional, courteous, and responsive—all of which are things I look for in vendors. They’ve lived up our extremely high expectations. They are technically knowledgeable. They’ve provided consultation and delivery on a wide range of tasks, from security to application design.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

247 Labs excels in agile work, and I would recommend them for this type of project. I haven’t tested their waterfall abilities.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the founder of Connective. We’re building a platform that will provide networking and resources for artists and creatives to turn their passion into a viable livelihood.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire 247 Labs?

We needed support to design, develop, and clarify the scope of our platform. I hired 247 Labs to segue my initial concept into a tangible product.

What were your goals for this project?

Initially, we needed a prototype to solicit feedback from coworkers, investors, and potential customers.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I researched potential vendors online. We considered a dozen development firms located across Canada. 247 Labs had consistently positive client feedback. They exhibited efficient and friendly communication on our consultation call. Most importantly, their focus and expertise aligned with our requirements.

Describe the project in detail.

During our project kickoff call, 247 Labs established a mutual understanding of the scope and requirements. They stress tested our concept by questioning specific aspects and suggesting alternatives. Weekly progress reports included updates on user flows, objectives, wireframes, meeting notes. Ultimately, they delivered the final designs.

What was the team composition?

The team included a project manager, technical director, and creative director.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

247 Labs successfully delivered on our project requirements. I showed one of the platform’s final iterations to some my friends. They all provided positive feedback on the design.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They communicated promptly and effectively across the board. The project managers sent thorough and consistent status updates. Our teams synergistically collaborated to quickly complete the project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I appreciated their genuine dedication to achieving our goals. 247 Labs was sincerely invested in our success. It never felt like they were just working for a paycheck or focused on their next client acquisition. They put in additional effort to ask generative questions instead of taking directions at face value.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Efficiency could always be improved, but 247 Labs barely took two months to complete the designs from start to finish.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am a freelance graphic designer who works on digital projects with individual clients.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire 247 Labs Inc.?

Based on my designs, 247 Labs developed a website for a real estate client

What were your goals for this project?

The goal of the project was to create a website that showcased large photographs, gave the agent more credibility, and allowed clients to browse properties and invest time in the agency.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I posted a brief on Upwork, and 247 Labs reached out to me.

Describe the project in detail.

The client came to me because they wanted to improve a few pages on their current site. After reviewing the site with 247 Labs and discovering that the template was outdated and unresponsive, we decided that the best approach was to overhaul the site entirely. The scope of work grew significantly, from 5 to 12 pages. I designed the pages on a WordPress template, but 247 Labs was extremely accommodating with customizations. Our client was extremely detail-oriented. 247 Labs remained extremely patient and easy to work with despite a growing list of customizations and delays.

What was the team composition?

I was the designer and middleman, corresponding with both the client and 247 Labs. On 247 Labs' side, they provided a project manager and developers, although I'm not sure how many worked on the project. The owner supervised the project but was not involved with its day-to-day progress.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

The site looks fabulous and works exactly as it was designed. It's extremely responsive and looks good on every format. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the project and grateful for 247 Lab's patience throughout the process.

How effective was the project management?

Between the owner and the project manager, I felt that my project was always being given attention and consideration. If there were any shortcomings, they were my own. I wish I had connected the team at 247 Labs directly to the client.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their patience. This was not an easy project.

I prefer phone calls over Skype, so I wish they would offer that.

The finished product greatly enhances the production process—errors are detected easily, reporting is streamlined, data gets updated in real time, and due dates are more accurate. Their team delivered on schedule, handling all change requests efficiently.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the managing partner at St. George Designs, where we design and deploy custom web-based solutions for our clients that range from complex membership websites to e-commerce and even industrial workflow progression tracking.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire 247 Labs Inc.?

We needed a customized project tracker that would seamlessly integrate with a WordPress website. While there are several project tracking plugins available, the client was very specific about its look, feel, and usability.

What were your goals for this project?

The challenge was to create a desktop application hosted on the client's intranet that would update seamlessly with touch devices located throughout the shop floor and staged at various production stations.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had worked with them before on a custom API for a complex membership software program.

Describe the project in detail.

We provided a detailed scope with examples and allowed them to take our basic design and expand it into something that truly functioned well out of the box. There were several updates and modifications required along the way, including the usual client add-ons once they start experiencing the solution’s potential.

Explain how the solution addressed your business challenge.

We took an antiquated Excel-based workflow/project tracking system and fully automated it, complete with user accountability. The workflow is improved, the reporting is real-time, and any issues are immediately brought to a manager´s attention for quicker resolution.

What was the team composition?

They produced two coders, a designer, and a project manager. We worked with them in an offline environment to fine tune the project prior to its presentation. Modifications and final testing were conducted flawlessly.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

Our proposed solution has streamlined the client's production reporting process and assists in identifying weak production points. Our client's interaction with their end client has improved as production communication and due dates are far more accurate. Also, error reporting has dramatically enhanced quality control and production efficiency.

How effective was the project management?

Working with their team was efficient and effective—several tweaks and recodes were handled quickly and correctly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They brought the project in on time, within budget, and it simply works.

What tips or recommendations do you have?

I would recommend being very specific with your scope description and be sure to review it with both your client and 247 Labs Inc. It’s better and more cost effective to double check.

Efficiency has increased over time and communication is consistently strong. They deliver high quality on time, and have effectively adjusted the team as the project has expanded.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of an IT consulting firm focused on software development.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 247 Labs?

We had a government project that required more resources than we had available internally. We needed outside support.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

247 developed APIs for us. They started working with existing APIs and eventually began to develop them as well. They developed both the user interface, working with the designer to create the appropriate calls, and the backend database to trigger the calls to the APIs. They built a hybrid technology that incorporated PHP, .NET and a database service.

We started by using them for just a portion of the project. As they became more familiar with it, we increased their involvement.

What is the team dynamic?

The CTO was my primary contact. We also worked with a project manager, frontend designer, backend developer and a QA tester.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

We often seek out partners to work with when we need additional resources. We had occasionally worked with 247 on small, low-level projects many years before. We had forgotten about them until I was referred back to them by someone.

How much have you invested with them?

The project has grown since we started. It’s ongoing and we’ve added more components, so we’ve invested quite a bit with them. It’s likely to reach $250,000 if not $500,00.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September or October 2016.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client required certain deliverables in order to move to the next phase of the project. Because 247 was able to deliver on time and with quality, we were able to continue and add more components, which we’re working on now. We’ve been able to get more business as a result of their work.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re really on top of everything. We’ve seen improvements in efficiency as they’ve learned the project. Speed has increased and quality has improved. They also altered the team composition to ensure they were delivering quality.

They were accurate in setting timelines and they delivered on time. In the event of delays – which were often not their fault but delays from the client or other teams – they communicated these in advance. They stuck to the project plan and kept us informed. The project manager helped keep things on track.

We’ve used several project management tools like Basecamp and Redbook, and communicate through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Customer service is great. They took the time to understand exactly what was required. They delivered on time and with great quality – which not all companies do. They meet deadlines but the quality is what has exceeded my expectations.

I think that many companies will take time to respond. 247 responds quickly. There’s always someone who is quick to answer a question so we can move forward.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As long as there's communication from both sides, the project will be successful. I know 247 does their part on communication so it’s up to the client to do so too.

They helped build out our existing site and also build out a new frontend for our subscription checkout. They built the frontend checking for our customers using Recurly API for the subscription billing management.

What is the team dynamic?

Over the years, we’ve had different relationships with different people on the team. We have a project manager and one developer that we work with mostly. Sometimes they assign us a 2nd developer when needed.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

I found them on Upwork. They had really good reviews and references. The references all checked out. I had a great conversation with Azwar [Web & Mobile Solutions Architect], one of the principals at 247 Labs. I really appreciated his approach. It’s been a very nice and honest relationship. I feel I can trust them and that’s really important for remote work.

How much have you invested with them?

$10,000-$49,999.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in 2015 and the work is ongoing.

SOLUTION

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our membership has grown over the years and a big part of that is we have an upgraded interface for our customers to learn about what we offer and the checkout experience. 247 Labs definitely had a hand in developing that work to spec. The feedback has been positive. It’s been a very smooth transition. For the most part, everything has been budget and within scope. There has been a huge improvement on the upgraded website.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well. We didn’t have too much interaction, but they were always very responsive. We spoke on a week by week basis. We communicated mostly through Jira and sometimes Google Docs and InVision.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciated their reliability and the trust in our relationship.

Do you have any advice for potential clients of 247 Labs?

Have a really clear idea of what you’re looking for. If you’re doing web development, have the design laid out and have a clear vision. That helps move things along really quickly. That’s not specific to them, but for everybody.

Feedback summary:

247 Labs’ involvement has helped the business expand, and increasingly bigger projects are assigned to their developers. Aside from quality code, they also excel at project management, providing a dedicated Scrum master who facilitates communication. They are timely and highly responsive.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Our company provides management, consultancy, and training services in the area of project management. As a project manager, I work with companies who deliver custom software solutions.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 247 Labs?

I needed help with the UI/UX [user interface/user experience] of our software, specifically the design and development of user screens and their implementation using custom code.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their involvement is considerable, including development, design, analytics, and QA [quality assurance]. Currently, they’re working on a huge project, a piece of software that constantly requires additional modules. They’re developing a new module that is similar to previous ones, but with some unique caveats. Our application is intended for an end user.

What is the team dynamic?

Their team varies. For the past 7–9 months, we’ve worked with 7–8 frontend people. There are people on the backend who take care of their infrastructure, making sure that everything works as smoothly as possible. We’ve also worked with a Scrum master, a QA tester, and a QA engineer.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

They came from a very strong reference. Initially, we asked them to do a test project, and they delivered excellent results.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent $50,000–$199,999 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

They’ve been working with us for over a year now, since May 2015, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their ethics and work quality have resulted in considerable business growth. They’re very keen on new technology and responsiveness, proactively giving recommendations for improving the customer experience. About 99% of the time, I’m very excited and happy with their work.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very cognizant of timelines, which is a huge plus from a project management perspective. They understand the intricacies of having to meet deliverables for an external client. Most of the time, they’re on point with any requirements, updates, and schedules. They try to respond as best as they can. Their ability to scale up as needed is very convenient, and they can quickly add more resources.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They offer comprehensive services and an interwoven team. While I’m able to go to any developer, they have a Scrum master who deals directly with their developers and assists with communication.

Feedback summary:

247 Labs finished the work a lot faster than expected and were very responsive throughout, usually resolving issues within a day. The branding portion went remarkably smooth regardless of the several revisions and unexpected changes. While they’re not a cheap option, their speed is worth it.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a dentist at a dental clinic in Cookstown, Ontario. I work for my own corporation and also the Department of National Defense as a dentist.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 247 Labs?

We wanted to set ourselves apart from a branding perspective and have an online presence that would make us easy to find through local searches by way of SEO [search engine optimization]. We needed to create a website that would communicate the services that we offer to our patients, including self-check-in and a patient registration form.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a project kickoff meeting involving the project manager and a designer in which we covered all the branding details. A week or 2 later, I had rough brand logo guidelines, a few font options, signage and billboard designs, logos, emblems, stationery letterheads, and more, after which we had a revision meeting. We reached what we wanted about 2–3 weeks later and then we started working on the website, which is now live.

Patients can use our check-in feature from a kiosk in the waiting room of our clinic. It present questions about their appointment status and personal information, after which our front desk staff gets a notification for when the patient is done. It will prompt them to either approach the front desk (either to fill in new information or set up an appointment) or wait to be called. Our registration form is a simple online form for patients to fill out, the same as when you go to a medical office.

The platforms are controlled manually. My staff gets a notification whenever a patient submits something and then they input that information in our booking software, which is a different system that someone else created. Since we’re still adding onto the site, the SEO has been paused because I haven’t had the time to dedicate to the briefing they need.

What is the team dynamic?

There were 7 guys involved throughout the process. They weren’t working all at once but rather at different stages. The main person is Nazar, the project manager, and we also had a quality assurance specialist that would review any issues.

How did you come to work with 247 Labs?

I searched on Google and compared a few places. We were recommended to choose 247 Labs for their branding and web expertise. I also liked their taste.

How much have you invested with them?

The project cost has been $7,900 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in August 2017. All the branding and website development has been completed, so we will soon pursue SEO. I also want to see what else they have for marketing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The project went faster than I expected; I was anticipating it would take until November but we were done by the end of September. I also didn’t expect the branding process to go smoothly as there were lots of color modifications. They didn’t nitpick on the only 2 or 3 revisions we did, however, the logo itself had 6 revisions.

I haven’t had any crashes or faulty links on my end. I’ve tried the website on mobile and had my staff test all the buttons, and we haven’t had any issues. The only hiccup was when they were ready to receive content and images for the website and I didn’t have everything ready at once.

How did 247 Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They had a superb response time, always getting back in touch within 24 hours. Many times, things were resolved the same day. We communicated through Google Hangouts.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their speed was impressive. They delivered on time and accommodated any unexpected changes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

You don’t get speed without paying for it, but I don’t have any issues with that.

Do you have any advice for potential clients?

Have your pictures and content ready on your end, because they’re usually ready to take care of it.
