There was nothing impressive or unique about this company based on my experience. The communication, timelines, and project management did not meet basic professional expectations, so there was no aspect of the engagement that stood out in a positive way.

Are there any areas for improvement or something 1Digital Agency could have done differently?

Yes, there are several areas for improvement. They could have followed the availability windows I provided and respected the communication boundaries I set. They should have delivered the audit results within a reasonable timeframe and provided the information without requiring unnecessary steps that made the process more difficult. Better organization, clearer timelines, and consistent follow-through would have made a significant difference. Overall, improved professionalism, responsiveness, and respect for the client’s time would have greatly improved the experience.

Regarding SEO, 1Digital Agency defined our target keywords; however, they didn’t show us keyword research. 1Digital Agency also created our advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

1Digital Agency failed to meet the project’s expectations — their software development service was over-priced, and their SEO strategy didn’t provide quick results. We completed sales through 1Digital Agency’s SEO and PPC campaigns; however, we didn’t get the expected ROI in eight months. The last SEO campaign was doing good for organic traffic build-up; however, it wasn’t enough to generate an ROI and meet our requirements.

We could’ve used the time working with 1Digital Agency to engage with a company that could deliver our required ROI.  

How did 1Digital Agency perform from a project management standpoint?

1Digital Agency was perfect in the project management aspect. The team met deadlines, and we used Podio, from Citrix, for project management.

1Digital Agency’s administration could improve. They could be more updated about the latest SEO and PPC techniques to achieve the required ROI and deliver good results.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend potential clients conduct their own research and look for ways to resolve their SEO needs themselves.

I’m the founder and CEO of a staffing and outsourcing agency. Clients hire staff through our agency, as we provide a lot of low-cost labor that’s highly skilled in specific niches. We specialize in IT, contact center, and BPO services.

I wanted to get my website to rank for specific keywords that I believed would help me obtain new clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their work mostly revolves around keyword research, content creation, and backlinking, with the latter comprising the vast majority of their efforts. The backlinking portion involves securing PR mentions and getting our company listed on different authoritative websites.

I had a main contact that handled account management and backlinking. I already knew Dan (CEO), and there were at least two others on email chains, including Colin (SEO Team Lead). I only truly interacted with my point of contact, however. 

How did you come to work with 1Digital Technologies? 

They ranked number one on Google when I was looking for SEO services. I thought that if they could rank number one for SEO — a highly competitive term — then they must be good.

We spend around $3,000 per month as a retainer. This accounts for all their services.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

SEO takes time; it probably takes 1–3 years to achieve first-place rankings. I’d just started a new domain when I started working with 1Digital, and my domain authority was basically zero — I had no traffic. My DA is now almost 40, and my website is ranking on the second page of Google for four of my key terms. The trajectory is great. 

How did 1Digital Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Our point of contact is very responsive. We talk on Skype and email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very knowledgeable about how to go about their work. I sometimes feel that companies are testing strategies out to see what works, but 1Digital had a robust framework and methodology. My company didn’t seem like an experiment to them. They’re applying the same methodology to my brand that they use for themselves. Their team is extremely competent. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There could have been a bit more organization around assigning tasks. There were no large issues, but my point of contact expected me to do certain things that weren’t communicated to me. Creating a project management dashboard on Trello would have brought the needed transparency. Email and Skype don’t catch everything. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You have to understand your business on a deep level. When you’re targeting keywords, you have to understand which keywords are best. If you invest $40,000–$60,000 over a year for certain keywords but the traffic doesn’t produce any money, then it would be a waste. 

1Digital advised me to spend some money on PPC for those keywords to see if they drive any business. I didn’t take their advice, but if I had, then I would have known which keywords were going to be worth my organic investment.

What challenge were you trying to address with 1Digital Agency?

Originally, our site was built on Volusion, but we felt that we couldn’t move forward using that platform, so it was time to move to a different one. We hired 1Digital Agency to help us with the migration.

What was the scope of their involvement?

1Digital helped us migrate and redesign our site into BigCommerce to maintain our presence. This was a difficult task that included redesigning the site, importing and rebuilding all of our products’ SKUs, and migrating our customers’ information.

They took our input on what we wanted to keep from our existing site and built a new one from the ground up considering that input. They also weighed in on some aspects that they thought would be helpful for us to change. We collaborated with them and went from there.

In the first phase, we reached out to 1Digital to get them in the understanding of what we wanted to do exactly. They prepared a proposal, and we spent a lot of time on the phone discussing it to understand our involvement. I got the owner on the phone to bounce ideas off of one another and find the best route to get the work done.

Once we accepted the proposal, we defined the scope. It detailed what work would be done, in what timeframes, and what our responsibilities would be — it was a six-week plan. They came in on time with all their deliverables. However, we had some changes related to the mobile version of the site.

After they completed the website, we had a scheduled time where they migrated all of our existing customer and product data from Volusion to BigCommerce. Some of our products are very complex and have a lot of customization options, so they also made sure that the functionality worked on the new platform.

The site was launched after that, and we had a 30-day period to check on the quality of their work. If there were any issues, we let them know, and they fixed them.

Since that first project, we’ve done two more sites with 1Digital’s help. One was a migration similar to the first site, and the other was a completely new e-commerce site on BigCommerce as well. Now, we work with them on a retainer contract to manage several aspects of all three sites including graphic design, web development, usability, and compliance support.

What is the team composition?

Over the years, we’ve worked with around 10 people from 1Digital. I still talk with the owner from time to time, but he isn’t as involved in working directly with the client now. However, anytime I have a question, I can just get in touch with him to talk.

I have one main point of contact, which has remained the same for quite some time. The good thing about working with 1Digital on a retainer contract is that I don’t have to hire someone to support us on each task — they have someone dedicated to each area.

How did you come to work with 1Digital Agency?

One of the things that originally attracted us to them was that they were extremely punctual.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent well over $100,000 so far. The three website redesigns and launches cost around $25,000 each, and the retainer contract cost us around $2,000–$3,000 a month.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together on the first project around April 2017, and the engagement is ongoing. The first project was completed, but we’ve worked on several other projects with them because of their quality work.

We have several employees working in our location, and everyone has a responsibility. They’re partners in bringing this business to success. 1Digital is one of those partners — we wouldn’t be where we are without this partnership.

This engagement is reciprocal, too. They have enjoyed success because they have partners like us that support them and believe in their work.

How did 1Digital Agency perform from a project management standpoint?

1Digital uses Podio for project management. This is a great tool that serves for communicating, creating estimates, building projects, and tracking benchmarks and timelines. When I get the bill, I can see where they spent the time.

This tool also keeps historical data. I can go back and look at any conversation that we’ve had over the years, as well as at instructions that they leave for my team — it’s a really comprehensive tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

1Digital is very responsive and works extremely fast. I’m sure that there might be other agencies out there that do great work, but I haven’t found a company with the same mindset as 1Digital. If I send them a request to have some work done, I get a reply within five minutes. They don’t sit on their hands — they are punctual and get quality work done quickly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When working with 1Digital, you absolutely get what you pay for. They aren't cheap by any means, but good work isn’t cheap. As long as you don’t perceive them to be expensive, you’re going to be satisfied.

To start the engagement, they had us fill out one questionnaire for the web design portion of the project and one questionnaire for the SEO portion of the project. We then discussed relevant keywords for our business, the optimal site layout, and other strategic points. From that point, they’ve done everything. They even brought in photographers to take photos for the site.

We had a pretty big team that included copywriters, web developers, and marketing specialists. In total, about 10 people from their team are helping us. Our main point of contact is Joe (Head Writer & Account Manager).

They’ve been excellent. Their areas of expertise are a little out of my realm, but they’ve explained everything to me. I’ve been really happy with them. We use Podio for project management purposes, which gives me full transparency on their progress. Our teams also communicate via email and phone calls, holding weekly and monthly meetings as needed.

They’re professional and transparent. With some firms, it can be difficult to track progress toward project goals. This hasn’t been the case with them at all.

I can’t think of anything. I’ve worked with other agencies before, but 1Digital Agency was the best by far.
