We employed Alex and the team at YDM to develop an online ordering portal for our customers using the Shopify platform. We wanted a system that was not only easy to use and appealing for our customers visually, but also easy to setup and maintain for us. Both of these goals were achieved. The custom application allows for: 

• Creating customers and assigning Shoify user(s) to each customer. The users assignment to the customer defines which branded portal they see when they log in. 
• Grouping of customers. This allows for easy to manage bulk actions. For example adding all customers to a 'Christmas group' that then has products and graphics associated to it. At the end of the Christmas period, all customers can easily be removed from the group and go back to their default portal products and themes. 
• Assignment of banners and graphics.The user can upload and assignbanners and graphics to specific customers or groups of customers. 
• Assignment of collections:The user can assign collections to customer, or groups of customers. Collections can be set as 'unique' where they are available to one customer only, or 'generic' where they can be assigned to multiple customers or groups.The two kinds of collections also stipulate where the collections are shown on the portal.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Portal Setup: Previous to this solution, setting up a portal for us was a long-winded process. It would require 30 minutes to 1 hour to get a portal to a basic level. We can now create a portal in less than 5 minutes and the process is so simple that I plan to hand this task over to an assistant. This frees up my time and allows me to focus on finding more products to sell and improving the selling and marketing processes. 
• Theme: The theme created by YDM is engaging and modern. Our prevuous portal design was uninspiring and did not encourage repeat visits. 
• Overall: Overall the solutions have reduced the amount of time it takes for me to setup portals and will allow me to spend my time managing and growing this side of our business.

The YDM team have fantastic communication skills. From the first meeting that we had with Alex we felt at ease. He stressed to us that communication is one of the most important factors when taking on a project like this. 

Each stage of developement (wireframe, design, development, testing, bug fixing) was met with clear communication from the YDM team as to what the goals were and quick responses to requests and questions. Deadlines were met, and if there was any issues with timeframes they were openly discussed and agreed uponby us and the YDM team.

Understanding our business as a whole, not just the project. I was impressed that Alex and the team would often suggest features or ways to do something that I had yet to bring up. I have had 6 + years of being involved in this project in various forms, and for them to get up to speed so quickly, was really encouraging. 

Communication was fantastic. Attention to detail. Very approachable. And lastly, the team have a very genuine approach. You can tell that they genuinely care about the project and are 100% invested in its success.

I'm the E-commerce Manager at Dwarfs. We are an E-commerce aggregator where we buy successful brands on marketplaces and grow them further with our team.

Our website was created several years ago and was hosted on Magento. Since we didn't have the needed skills inhouse, we decided to get the help from Your Digital Media to help us with the migration of our store to Shopify and to develop a custom theme for our new website. Our goal was to improve sales revenues with a renewed website.

We searched online for Shopify Web Developers and, in the end, had shortlisted 7-10 agencies. Alex, the founder of Your Digital Media, stood out to us because of his portfolio and past work, expertise, and location. Based in the same city as our office, Alex has been helpful to come to the office from time to time to help us with the project.

We had a kick-off meeting to discuss the goals, objectives, and deliverables of the project. Your Digital Media's team continued with the design phase and created a mock-up for the custom Shopify theme. After approval, the team worked on the front- and back-end of the website.

Finally, after our review, the team helped us to fix some remaining bugs. The team helped us during the launch date and also supported us post-launch when we still had pending errors. The team was always very helpful throughout the process.

Alex (the founder) and a project manager (Hannah) was our main contact person throughout the process. Behind the scenes they also worked with their team of developers and designers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We are very happy with the new web design, it's definitely an improvement from our outdated website. The site is live for five weeks now and we're still waiting to see a sales increase as the migration period and domain name change have caused a short-term dip. We are positive to see improvements in sales in the near future.

We mainly communicated via Basecamp with the project manager. The communication there went well, although I would recommend scheduling a meeting every week or two weeks to update the client throughout the process.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Alex and his team were always very helpful throughout the process. Whenever we had a question, the team would send us videos with instructions so that our team could learn how to implement the changes inside Shopify.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

As said earlier, the communication through Basecamp went well, although I would recommend scheduling a meeting every week or two weeks to update the client throughout the process. I would also recommend creating a project management plan at the start so that the client can prepare for all deliverables needed for each task ahead of time.

After 2–3 weeks, they came back to us with a demo Shopify website. We went through a couple of iterations, and they helped us go through the website and how Shopify works. They explained all the features that were available to us as well as the ones that we needed. The team really helped us get up to speed.

It felt like Alex really cared about our brand and our customers. He was able to put himself in our shoes, unlike anyone we’ve ever seen. It didn’t feel like we were being nickel-and-dimed. The team was inclusive and understanding of our needs.  

Once they finished the site, we were able to capture almost every single meeting we were looking for. Beforehand, we got rejected from every single one. It was a major difference.

How did Your Digital Media perform from a project management standpoint?

They were pretty good. It was nice to work directly with Alex. He made sure that we were well taken care of. We communicated via Basecamp, which Your Digital Media helped us learn how to use. We still use it to this day with other partners.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Alex is one of the few website builders that looks at the technical and non-technical sides together. He walked through it on mobile-first, and made sure the UI and UX were seamless. He has a marketing background, so he really brought a useful perspective to the table. The initial conversations we had with Your Digital Media were much easier than those with other vendors.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their team was a bit more proactive and reactive in situations, which was good and bad. We had such a specific vision of what we were looking for, which caused Alex and his team to take a back seat during design. It would have been great if they told us from the start that we need to be in the back seat for some parts of the project. In the future, I’ll explain the look and feel and then let them take control from there. They’re more than capable of leading that charge.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have your brand book ready, which should include font and color types. Also, have all the elements about your actual brand in a concise booklet. Giving those to Alex upfront will help you a lot.  If you have all of your assets ready to go, your timeline will be tighter.

They were consistently willing to go above and beyond. They wound up doing way more than we initially contracted them to. Nothing was ever too much trouble. If we had an idea, they’d make it work.

As we’ve had a few difficulties with our manufacturer, our store is online, but we’re not making sales. We’ll start measuring results once we start selling again.

Their team was very good; Alex delivered everything as we expected in a responsible and timely manner. He set up a profile for us on Basecamp, where we shared information and contacted him about pending tasks. I found this app and process to be very useful, professional, clean, and transparent.

There was nothing we asked them that they found impossible to do; their team was very knowledgeable. Even if it were a difficult task, they’d find a way to complete it.

A little bit of transparency in terms of team composition would be good. Our company hired him and knew that he was running an agency, but wasn't sure who was working for him.

I’d advise them to have very clear goals and communicate them to Alex to avoid misunderstandings and put on paper a list of requests so that he can come back with a clear quote and deliverables.
