After technically created Microsoft XiaoIce and Baidu Duer, Chao QI decided to co-found this AI startup in 2016 with Dr Zhuoran WANG, another technical leader on the Duer project, a machine learning scientist expertised in spoken dialogue systems and divergent naturalised British working in China. Yuchi MA, the third co-founder, was then invited to complement the company with his expertise in marketing and business development. The three named the company "Trio", implying the complementarity of their specialities, and gathered a talent team of NLP and Machine Learning engineers/scientists from Microsoft, Baidu, LeEco, etc. Trio has raised three rounds of funding within one year, with a total amount of CNY 80,000,000, and is serving many market leaders, including XiaoMi, Tencent, Sina, Hundsun, etc. In 2017, Trio was honorably selected into Microsoft Accelerator 9th Cohort and Tecent AI Accelerator, and as a gold partner of Baidu's DuerOS.
