BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We are one of Germany's most successful manufacturers of sports cars and service provider of sportive mobility. My position is within the after sales department and I am responsible for the budget planning and tracking within our department.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire TEQneers GmbH & Co. KG?

Our budget planning was done individually mostly based on MS-Excel. The budget tracking was supported by an old SQL database and old web UI; no support; changes were hardly possible anymore. I dare not to say: the database was running on a standard office client under my table.

What were your goals for this project?

1) standardize and professionalize budget planning and tracking over the whole department 2) offer an easy to use UI that all the tech-guys would want to use 3) have a supported system with state-of-the-art service level agreements

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

There were 3 possible suppliers. Our own IT department with our standard IT supplier, a one man show and Teqneers. Teqneers was after a short qualification the most reliable and inexpensive choice.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Teqneers provided all the technical infrastructure (e.g. gitlab) for me to describe the user stories. Since about 70% of the project was a renewal of the old system, this was given to Teqneers to reengineer. Teqneers did all the UI framework and came up with lots of ideas.

I only had the being in the rought requirements. After only 2 or 3 weeks I had a brand new system to login and start testing/playing around, bringing up new ideas and improvements. That's how agile development should work! The system now runs cloud-based and is ready to be rolled out to more departments in our company.

What was the team composition?

The team consistet of me - sort of being the product owner - I believe one or two developers from Teqneers (obvisously not working full-time on this rather small project) and one representative on Teqneers side for all the financial and organizational stuff.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The acceptance of the new budget tool was outstanding. Imagine a completely technical department with only engineers that now "like" to to their financial planning and tracking. For me it made everything way easier to report to our controllers und the head of department.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I am tempted to copy the example text here. Everything was easily shared and tracked on github. We had several skype meetings started with one 2 hour kick-off on our site.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Most impressing was the at-eye-level communication and Teqneers understanding of our needs. I only scribbled some drawings on paper, sent them a photo of it and after a short phone/skype explanation it was implemented only few days later.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Honestly nothing I could think of right now.
