Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and founder of Underground Hustle e-commerce app. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with swmi score?

We wanted to help small businesses increase their sales and connect them to their target market. As such, we hired smwi score or SCORE Kalamazoo to mentor us around starting our business. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, I provided SCORE Kalamazoo with plenty of information about our business. Since then, they’ve helped me in business planning. At present, their role is to help me progress the business in the most effective way using their business knowledge.

What is the team composition?

At first, only one person was assigned to mentor me. 

Since then, she's connected me with another mentor from their team. As such, I currently work with two mentors. 

How did you come to work with swmi score?

I found them through my brother. I signed up for their services online, and then they called me. I was then assigned with a mentor who was knowledgeable in e-commerce, which was my business area. We initially scheduled one Zoom meeting to discuss everything about the engagement. From there, we continued scheduling meetings. That was how we started working together. 

How much have you invested with them?

We haven’t paid anything for their services since they’re a volunteer organization. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the partnership in September 2020, and it’s ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

With SCORE Kalamazoo’s help, I’ve completed my business plan, applied for different funding sources, and come up with my value proposition. On top of that, I’ve been able to locate my target market. In fact, they’ve also put me inside a pitch competition, which has allowed me to improve my business presentation skills. I’ve also been able to have a marketing strategy. Overall, their help has enabled me to do business. 

How did swmi score perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management has been excellent; everything has been perfect since they understand what I want to do. For communication purposes, I have my mentors’ numbers and email addresses. Normally, though, we have Zoom or Webex meetings, whichever suits them better at a specific time. We’ve previously done one meeting a week. At present, we have one meeting every 2–3 weeks. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understand my business situation, and they’re willing to help me step by step. On top of that, they don’t just help me do everything; they also teach me how to do it on my own. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, none at all. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You’ll get the most out of the engagement as long as you listen directly to them. Listen to what your mentors say, and apply it in real life so that you know what you have to do. That’s how I’ve got the most out of our partnership; I’ve continued to listen to their advice.
