I’m the founder of a company called SOULS of Society. It’s a storytelling project that’s intended to create community connections by increasing compassion, empathy, and spiritual awareness.

My platform is ad-free—essentially, community-funded—so it relies on individual contributions. My goal was to create an explainer video that would express my vision and mission in order to solicit potential patrons.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They clarified my vision before launching into the scripting process. To understand what I wanted to capture, Start Motion guided me through specific prompts. The video features different interviewees sharing their personal stories. It was an organic process. They then selected stories that would have the most compelling effect to bring the video together.

The project was successful in all ways; Michael’s work really elevated my brand. The video effectively conveyed my mission and succeeded in soliciting patronage for my project. He’s a master at what he does, and his technical expertise is outstanding.

The Topo Standing Desk Mat was our first product. We needed to raise money to pay for tooling, and we wanted to try crowdfunding. We hired Start Motion Media to produce our crowdfunding video for Topo.

We wanted to raise $100k in 30 days. And we did, thanks in part to this fantastic video.

I heard Michael give a talk about crowdfunding, and it was clear he had really put in the effort and had the experience to really know it inside and out. His knowledge in that session alone greatly increased our campaign's chances for success - and the video that Start Motion Media was even better!

Michael was great at hearing us out about what is so special about the product and found what was special about our stories. I was blown away at how compelling a narrative he was able to craft around Topo.

I think we started with a questionnaire, then a phone call. Michael asked great questions and made sure he really understood the core of our value proposition.

Start Motion Media used cloud-based services perfectly to improve communication. We could collaborate on forms from anywhere (great for a remote only company), view video drafts, and give feedback easily and effectively.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I remain impressed at how quickly and effectively Michael was able to get to the core of what made us and our product really special, and how elegantly he was able to communicate it with a beautiful video.

Our goal was to capture the spirit of a future utopia in a Four Directions Ceremony and song.

It was an outdoor shoot in a remote area of a park. The video involved about 22 people, a lot of them dancing and singing. The soundtrack was recorded separately. Michael was the cinematographer, director, and editor.

It was quite easy and helpful. Michael took input well and provided the suggested edits and revisions.
