What challenge were you trying to address with Specbee?

We needed to update our site because the previous version of its CMS was nearing its end of life. Therefore, we wanted to find reliable, technically skilled developers who would communicate well and give us clear estimates throughout the process.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Specbee to migrate our Drupal-based website from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10. Since then, they've taken over the support and maintenance of that website. Initially, we granted Specbee access to our site, and they did an audit before providing an estimate for how long it would take, what the scope would encompass, and which issues they found.

From there, we went through a two-month-long discovery process, during which they dug deep into our business processes to get a better understanding of any custom code or logic needed on our site, as well as configuration for workflows and other things like that.

What is the team composition?

We've worked with four main teammates from Specbee. Still, there have been 1–2 others involved but more in a support role. Their team includes a project manager, a technical account manager, and a Drupal lead.

How did you come to work with Specbee?

We found them through a Google search.

How much have you invested with them?

For the migration process, we spent $70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around February 2024, and our engagement is ongoing. The migration process ended in June 2024, but we switched to an ongoing support contract since then.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our website is a very specific app with a very limited audience, so click-through rates or traffic metrics aren't relevant. However, although we haven't tested the actual speed yet, we can say that the website is better, and we haven't seen any downtime even after going through some updates. Therefore, our only metric of success is an uptime rate of 100%, which is important for us. Overall, Specbee has delivered high-quality work.

How did Specbee perform from a project management standpoint?

Specbee has communicated well and delivered work on time. As for the budget, we had to make some adjustments during the migration project. This adjustment was within a rough contingency budget we had planned for. There were things on our website that were a bit more complicated than initially thought. However, Specbee worked with us to address these issues while considering our budget to minimize the impact, which we really appreciated.

We used Google Docs during the discovery process to share documents and provide answers to questions, and we also had scheduled check-in calls. Specbee is also very reachable via email. We've also used a Jira board, which we've continued to use during the support process as well.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Steven (Technical Account Manager) is our main point of contact. He has done a great job keeping things on track and communicating deadlines. Whenever there are adjustments needed, he lays them out and works with us to find solutions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Specbee has refined some things during the process and communicated with us throughout, which is all we can ask for — great communication and collaboration. They've also been great at keeping us on track and explaining things to non-technical stakeholders, which has been very helpful.

Moreover, Specbee's ability to break down work and work through it in an efficient way has been excellent. On top of that, they've implemented strong development, testing, and production workflows, which have helped achieve that uptime metric.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There's nothing Specbee could improve on.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Specbee is very good at digging into things and understanding processes, so just communicate upfront about the specific things your organization requires, whether they are custom codes or workflows.

Specbee has helped us prepare the Morning Cart website and mobile applications for Android and iOS.

The platform features a private wallet, which required us to consider security, confidentiality, and technology continuity. We have server set-off times and reports generating on a daily basis for vendors and partners.

Given that there were several stakeholders involved, Specbee’s team helped us look for technology that would be helpful for this kind of platform. We decided to go ahead with Drupal for the backend of the website, and used the typical frontend technologies for Android.

We’ve worked with Prashanth, one of their founders.

How did you come to work with Specbee Consulting?

We’d been working with a small developer in Bangalore, but we were looking for a faster response time. One of our partners referred Specbee, and after meeting them, they became our primary developer.

We had an initial 900,000 Indian rupee [$14,130 USD] contract for the iOS and Android builds, along with basic web development. Requirements kept changing, which led to additional costs.

Our process is completely automated now. We’ve given technology to milk and newspaper distributor partners which allows them to streamline their work, as well as increase their productivity and incomes. The platform also provides training in order for them to improve operations.

Morning Cart is a huge platform reaching close to 20,000 households every day on a subscription model, so the technology we needed to employ is quite robust. Prashanth’s technical abilities are quite good. Initially, it took us some time to understand his team’s abilities, but we found that they were knowledgeable. They’ve helped us have a better user experience and customer interaction.

How did Specbee Consulting perform from a project management standpoint?

There is room for improvement on their side in terms of project management since they are a startup.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a personal touch with clients. Both Ashirwad [Director, Specbee] and Prashanth maintained a professional environment and went out of their way to help customers. They have a good approach, but there is room for improvement in anyone’s performance. Specbee definitely has room for growth in the solutions they offer clients.
