A Global Airport Lounge App
TAV Airports is the leading airport operator in Turkey. Together with its subsidiaries, TAV Airports provides services to 152 million passengers, including duty-free shopping, food and beverage services, aircraft ground handling, IT and security, and more.
Today, TAV is introducing a mobile lounge access app to upgrade its airport experience for outbound passengers. This app was created in partnership with Solid-ICT.
In the minds of many airport passengers, the usage of airport lounges are often incorrectly associated exclusively with business class flyers. In addition, passengers who were accessing the lounges were often confused about which airport lounge to use with which boarding card. This caused long queues at lounge entrances, which was inconvenient and disappointing for passengers who believed they bought an exclusive product.
TAV aimed to change all these negative experiences by making their lounge service quick and easily accessible for all passengers.
We’re committed to seeing every single project thrive and continuously push the bar higher in terms of what can be achieved. Our first step was to understand TAV’s dreams regarding the project so we could bring this into reality with our magical coding capability. Our second step was to understand the target customer’s needs from the ground in order to create the perfect user experience. So we rolled up our sleeves and went into an airport lounge to personally sell tickets.
From this experience, we then determined the best strategy and developed the most efficient app for TAV. Our dedicated team was at their computers both during the launch and 24-hours post-launch in order to ensure everything worked smoothly. As with every other project at Solid, our work didn’t end with execution. We always provide maintenance and full support post-launch.
Our Groundbreaking Solutions
We designed the LoungeMe app to create a seamless and enjoyable lounge experience for all passengers.
* Passengers can easily create an account, buy membership, search for lounges, and generate their entrance ticket in just two clicks.
* Passengers can purchase packages or single lounges according to their travel frequency and needs.
* Passengers can gain and collect points when they purchase through LoungeMe, which can be used for future trips.
* Passengers can access features such as sharing the lounge package, inviting friends, evaluating the lounge, playing games, and more.
* To avoid fraud, Lounge Me utilises image recognition with its AWS machine learning infrastructure.
* LoungeMe app works offline so passengers can buy their tickets and enter lounges using their QR code — all without needing an internet connection. -LoungeMe supports over 15 alternative payment methods including Alipay, Ideal and Sofort, as well as all major credit and debit cards.
More than just an app for passengers
The LoungeMe app, currently managed by Solid with a team of approximately 20 experts, will use API integration to partner with many corporate companies managing airports or loyalty programs.
With its web infrastructure, LoungeMe also has the capability to integrate with all online portals in the tourism sector, such as travel agencies, hotels and ticketing companies. The app will allow passengers to easily buy their lounge entrance with their flight ticket or tour.
When Turkcell, Turkey’s leading GSM Operator, and YGA, a non-profit organization, approached us with an innovative project aimed at helping the visually impaired at a time when corporate responsibility was not yet part of our portfolio, we leaped at the chance. The result was Hayal Ortagim (My Dream Companion), a complete mobile and web based solution that won many accolades and garnered a great deal of critical acclaim.
Hayal Ortagim is a hub for audible content from newspapers, magazines, books, horoscopes, and useful information such as the user’s location, weather reports, exchange rates, and nearby hospitals, pharmacies, and restaurants. The information is curated from many different sources that work with various formats. In order to keep everything in sync and of the same structure, we built a queue processor atop ActiveMQ technology. This queue processor funnels the torrent of data into properly ordered, appropriately structured, speech synthesized (TTS engine powered) consumable chunks of data that are then distributed to all clients.
Using beacon technologies we later added indoor voice-aided navigation as an option. Signals received from the beacons are used to notify the user of where in the mall they are, where they need to take caution (e.g. escalators), and which shops they are passing by.
Finally, in a move to involve the visually impaired where no one would’ve have thought possible, we added a cinema option. Using audio matching technology the app detects where in the movie the current scene is and describes what is on the screen leaving the rest up to the user’s imagination.
Hayal Ortagim went on to be the first project to win two GSMA awards and has helped over 150,000 visually impaired users overcome difficulties, access a variety of content, educate themselves, and enjoy outings with friends. It is a project we take great pride in, and the results speak for themselves.
We paired up with Turkcell to build a platform that would encourage young people to choose and make use of a plan dedicated completely to them. A plan that was not only cost effective, but also full of features chosen specifically for their demographic.
We built an advanced, all-inclusive system that tied seamlessly into Turkcell’s internal services giving users access to all sorts of information about their subscription and the ability to make adjustments on the go. On top of this we connected with and integrated into the mobile apps Turkcell’s BIP (messaging platform) as well as others.
Turkcell did not want to stop there, and neither did we. We built a gamification system that analyzed user behavior and rewarded it with badges. Badges were in turn used to collect trophies, which eventually could be cashed in, using coupon codes, for real life awards, such as cinema tickets.
GNCTurkcell became a hit, reached over 1.7 million users, and continues to grow to this day. Its success did not go unnoticed and we won several awards. We are currently working on outdoing ourselves with a second version.
Around the time when newspaper and magazine publications were maturing in format and business model alike (just as Apple replaced Newstand with News), Turkcell decided to take the lead in building a local digital platform - a decision well placed for a community that loves to keep abreast of current affairs.
Once again they chose us to take on this technically challenging job and we are proud to say the results have spoken for themselves. Dergilik, as the app has been named, has grown to be Turkey’s largest digital publishing platform with over 20 million subscribers and content that includes both local and global newspapers and magazines. With exclusive features like access to articles that are yet to be published, Dergilik continues to attract new users everyday.
From a technical standpoint Dergilik boasts a number of features that make using it a joy, some of which are:
- A custom download manager that is optimized for performance and offers the option to automatically download publications the user has subscribed to.
- Advanced encryption methods used to vastly reduce the size of magazines and newspapers taking into consideration storage limitations on mobile phones and tablets.
- An offline mode offering the option to continue using Dergilik on the subway, plane, or anywhere internet access is restricted.
- A number of subscription options including in-app purchases.
- A built-in image editing tool that can be used to crop, annotate, and markup any portion of a downloaded publication to be shared with others.
We are continuing to improve Dergilik to this very day, constantly seeking ways of integrating new technologies in a race to compete with the best there is out there - even Apple News.
One of our first international projects (developed for the folks down in sunny Australia), and one we still love to flaunt because of its success, is Pet SleepOver - The perfect holiday for your furriest family member.
Pet SleepOver is a platform that gives its users the option to choose from a database of babysitters to look after their pets for when they go on vacation.
Developed in a very short timespan (6 months), Pet SleepOver’s app boasts over 70 fully functional, beautifully designed pages. It sounds complex but thanks to a well thought out flow and story board, using the app is quite simple. Not only do the owners get regular photo and video updates, they can also monitor their pet and the path that it has walked through GPS tracking.
We also developed Pet SleepOver’s website which comes with advanced search options similar to AirBnB. The user can set their vacation dates, price range, and even see sitters nearby on a map. Sitters are also reviewed, rated, and verified. Just like the app we managed to pack a great deal of complexity behind an easy to use, and easy to look at interface.
Pet owners across Australia loved it so much it made the headlines!
Turkcell approached us with the desire to bring crowdfunding locally to Turkey. The idea was perfect for the social structure of Turkey, if not even late in application. Social aid takes on many forms in Turkey, some fun, some political, some cultural. It was only a matter of time before technology played catch up with what was essentially tradition.
We, once again, took on the responsibility of developing a full end to end solution, building apps for both major mobile platforms, and, what is in essence the backbone of the project, a website for would-be entrepreneurs to advertise their dreams. Of this fruitful collaboration was born Arikovani (beehive in Turkish).
With a distributed backend that maintains every user session separately through Redis in-memory caching, some of the technological feats Arikovani makes use of are:
- An advanced admin panel that allows for role based authentication
- A discount coupon system that allows for a wide range of complex scenarios
- Banners that dynamically evolve based on user actions
- The ability to apply for crowdfunding through BIP chatbots
- Email marketing that is customised based on user behaviour.
We take pride in having been the first to bring crowdfunding to Turkey and helped projects get successfully funded and, and most importantly, to have seen dreams turn into reality.
