We wanted a significant, compelling social presence that integrated well with our sales and marketing. Our goal was to humanize the brand without language barriers or other restrictions. Social presence is a new currency. It contributes to a positive experience for existing and prospective clients.

We were lucky enough to come across Social Media 55. Through our collaboration, we revamped our social presence on various channels and increased sales, marketing, and consumer retention.

What was the scope of their involvement?

By my request, we started with our Instagram and Facebook presence. We dove into those immediately, and engagement spiked. We saw a spike once we spoke the language of the local community, which speared off into marketing discussions and growth initiatives. With Social Media 55, we compiled consumer data that helped us narrowly target the markets where we wanted to grow further and develop a more personalized voice.

We’re a large multinational corporation, so our reach extends into 65–70 markets throughout the U.S. Given this setup, we didn’t want a general viewpoint. Someone in Seattle can't convey anything relevant to someone in San Francisco, or vice versa. In New York, our clients go through a different type of planning and expect a different type of engagement from our social presence.

That led into marketing strategy discussions, analytical review, and AdWords campaigns. Social Media 55 is an active member in any marketing, growth, social promotions, initiatives, and research in which our company engages. I'm loyal to brand equity and to the dollars I can save my firm. I’m very keen on “business is business." If things don't work, my board of directors will have me at gunpoint. Failure isn't an option.

What is the team composition?

Their advertising director was one of the two individuals who spearheaded my campaigns. I haven’t yet had the luxury of working with other members, but I presume that the principals set a precedent.

How did you come to work with Social Media 55?

One of my marketing associates actively searching online for viable organizations to parner with for our growth initiatives. After speaking to several companies, we felt most comfortable with Social Media 55's dedication, support, and demeanor.

Like any corporation with our marketing budget, we’ve continued to look for better alternatives. Social Media 55 stands out from the crowd, which includes both local companies and ones in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Austin, and Canada. We’ve looked internationally as well, but Social Media 55 still dominates. We want the best bang for our buck, which Social Media 55 has provided without any concerns.

How much have you invested with them?

I don’t remember their initial retainer, but we negotiate the cost for any addition. When we initially started with social media, the cost was in the $500–$600 range because we didn't want to jump in fully. They have aggressive, affordable pricing, but they don’t nickel-and-dime clients. They overdeliver on everything.

Social Media 55 is an active division of our company, so it's much higher now. They manage an average marketing budget of about $1.5 million each year, and we pay around $125,000 a year on their services.

They initially took care of only a couple tasks, but they’ve become the equivalent of a social media director, a blogger, and more. It’s more feasible for me to keep them onboard and pay them thousands of dollars a month. Social Media 55 saves me employee labor and social security costs, and they're more reliable than a freelancer. I can’t break the engagement down into exact dollars because they do more than what we pay them for. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started searching for a partner around two and a half years ago. We pulled the trigger around two years ago, and the work is ongoing. As long as their dedication, support, and innovation remain the same, we will continue the collaboration.

For a company of its size, Social Media 55 delivers a surprisingly boutique and personalized service. We don’t get that from many social media companies; we’ve felt like a number with others. That never happens with Social Media 55.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

More people engage with us on Facebook and Instagram, and our ads on Facebook and Google AdWords convert better. You can consider social media a single facet, like Facebook and Instagram, and focus just on one-on-one engagement. But that's not the case now, because social proofing is the new currency. You can either make sales because people read good reviews and like your photos, or you can mitigate against a bad product.

We've acquired a few brands. We wanted to step into a different realm of our current industry, which would give us a competitive advantage. Without Social Media 55, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to diversify our competitive and penetration strategy, both nationally and multinationally. I don’t even think that the opportunity would have come to my attention. This gave us a tenfold advantage over our competitors.

Social Media 55 facilitated one of our recent acquisitions. They negotiated the sale and worked with the parties to handle the social media channel management and the sales training transition. They made sure that everything was correctly onboarded and offboarded. They've also introduced us to some innovative ways of maximizing our resources and returns. 

How did Social Media 55 perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m an analytical person, so I get weekly reports, approval processes, and formal requests for proposals from Social Media 55. They provide ongoing training and progress reports. If something needs our approval, like a social media campaign, we either provide the images or they scalp the images we need and ask for our approval.

Other things require more delicate handling. If we have a review process in place for consumer reviews and need to facilitate a customer retention protocol, they mitigate the bad PR that may result from handling the situation in a negative manner. That requires a project management mindset. They take a look, and then say, “Based on your resources, our case studies, and our results with other clients, you should handle this one of three ways." Then they provide three options.

They might ask us to approve it by saying: “Here's what your social post looks like. Just let us know if you want to change any hashtags.” Or they might say: “This is an entire workflow process you should definitely look at.” We choose from there, and then we dialogue with them and delegate back and forth.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're a hands-on, competitive, innovative organization. You can tell they’re managed correctly. No one particular thing makes Social Media 55 stand out. They provide boutique service when you need it, but if you need to transition into a corporate firm, they give you resources and make connections. Social Media 55 has acquired a vast amount of resources through networking. They know thousands of companies and high-profile clients. If you don't know how to source a product, they walk you through it. You don’t get that from other companies.

Growing a company is an ever-evolving process. You want the right resources at the right time, you want to maximize your budget, and you want to get social proofing. For a company of its size, Social Media 55 delivers a surprisingly boutique and personalized service. We don’t get that from many social media companies, and we’ve felt like a number with others. That has never happened with Social Media 55. They fit the mold. They're a one-stop-shop.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs? 

A CTO or CMO who wants to discuss their ROI can talk to Social Media 55. At the same time, they won't make a mom-and-pop shop that is getting into a new territory or improving its social presence feel like they don’t know the verbiage. That's why Social Media 55 will remain our go-to agency, no matter which direction we choose.

My profiles are constantly receiving requests and inquiries. They handle virtually everything about my business aside from actual home sales. The team writes blogs for my personal website as well as my company page. I work with their photographers to create new visual content. I like to have some level of control over the content I put out, so we work together 50/50. My sales have gone up because of Social Media 55. They constantly send me reports that show where my business and industry as a whole are going. These metrics are broken down to indicate which parts of that growth are attributed to the social media aspect.

Our primary form of communication is over the phone. Social Media delivers everything they say they’ll do when they say they’ll do it. They do amazing work and are always on point.

They're a great team that's making something good happen for our company. I can't tell you exactly how much traction our PPC and Instagram ads have gotten because they’ve managed these services for a long time, but it's working very well.
