This was a stabilization project, focused on maintaining existing functionality. Our iPad application was built years ago and had fallen behind on updates and security patches. It's critical software for our company because our technicians use it daily. Six Feet Up upgraded the app to Titanium SDK 13.2.0 and the backend to .NET Framework 4.8, addressed security vulnerabilities, and preserved essential features, including offline functionality, blueprint annotations, and signature capture. They also automated releases using GitHub Actions, introduced backend tests, and consolidated technical documentation.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Six Feet Up upgraded and deployed our application approximately seven weeks before its expiration deadline. They addressed 22 known dependency vulnerability findings, automated our build and release processes, and introduced 64 backend tests. Our team is now using the app. We're still resolving a few minor post-deployment issues, but nothing widespread or operationally disruptive. This was necessary maintenance to keep our business running.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Six Feet Up got up to speed quickly on our codebase, our people, and the problems we were trying to solve. They helped us get a much clearer picture of our architecture, technical debt, and testing gaps, with practical recommendations we could act on. The work also helped us align on separating data engineering from full-stack development. We’ve already started addressing technical and process debt. Longer term, we expect that foundation to help us reduce production issues, move faster, and build better tools around branch-level P&L data so managers can make better decisions and improve performance.

We worked with Six Feet Up to design and build a platform that brings quoting and capital planning together around the same equipment data. Before this, quotes were built manually in spreadsheets and could take up to 15 hours, while planning teams used separate tools and processes to turn asset data into capital forecasts. Six Feet Up worked with us to define the shared equipment data model, build the configurable calculation engine, and work through the many pricing and service scenarios the platform needed to support. They developed a modular pricing model so new equipment and service combinations could be handled through configuration instead of requiring custom application logic each time. They also built the supporting backend architecture and documented the codebase so our engineering team could take ownership and continue extending Advisor after launch.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The biggest measurable outcome has been speed. Before Advisor, some quotes took up to 15 hours to build by hand in spreadsheets. Now, they can be completed in minutes. Quoting and long-term planning also use the same equipment data, which cuts down on manual work and gives our customers more consistent information. Customer feedback has been positive, and we started getting requests for additional functionality soon after launch. Ultimately, Advisor helps our customers create more accurate quotes and plans faster, respond to more opportunities, and improve their margins.

That approach helped surface what actually mattered, and by the final sessions, feedback had shifted from core workflows to refinement and edge cases.The application was built on Django with HTMX, JavaScript, and CSS on the frontend, Docker Compose for environment stability, and Azure DevOps for code management and CI pipelines. Because tables were the primary daily interaction surface, they built that layer from scratch rather than use off-the-shelf libraries that would have conflicted with the HTMX-driven update model.Key deliverables included a resource planning application with weekly time allocations and notes, overview dashboards for projects, employees, and departments, bulk time entry, location-based holiday support, automated four-week look-ahead email digests with role-specific action items, integration into our existing internal application stack, and data structured for Power BI reporting.

The core application was delivered on time, on budget, and everything was delivered as requested. Progress was easy to track through open issue tracking and frequent demo sessions, and we noticed critical feedback decreasing over time, which told us we were heading in the right direction.What used to take each person about 30 minutes to complete their resource allocations now takes around five minutes, six times faster. Across our 400 employees, we estimate that recovers roughly 160 hours per week.Beyond the time savings, project leaders, administrators, and employees are all working from the same system for the first time, and the automated four-week look-ahead digests surface role-specific action items before they become operational issues.

As things scaled, they built a crosswalk and CIS-first approach. That lets us map policies across frameworks like NIST instead of rewriting the same requirement repeatedly, and it makes coverage and gaps easier to see. They also helped us validate policies more safely by setting up automated verification in isolated AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. That way we’re not relying on manual testing that carries risk and delay.

On the Cloud Custodian side, Six Feet Up helped implement features and supported the workflow needed for our platform to ingest and act on those policies.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Policy development became faster and more predictable. As the system matured, the time we spend per policy kept going down, which is what we needed to keep up with customer demand and scale coverage.

The crosswalk and governance model also gave us better visibility. We now have a single view of how frameworks, controls, benchmarks, and policies connect, and it’s easier to see where we have strong coverage and where the gaps still are across frameworks and cloud environments.

Policy quality improved too. The built-in checks helped reduce missed required fields, which made policies more consistent and cut down on rework during reviews.

Verification is also more reliable now. Instead of depending on manual verification, we can run repeatable policy testing in isolated, dedicated environments, which lowers risk and keeps validation consistent as we scale.

Everyone accesses a single, always-accurate source of truth — eliminating version confusion and endless email threads. Visual dashboards make it simple to spot patterns, while built-in algorithms flag underperforming programs early so we can take action before students are affected. 

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and this application supports continuous improvement of our academic programs, resulting in better outcomes for our students.
