Sensorama developed a VR application for Meta Quest 3 in which the viewer is placed within four AI-generated 360-degree spheres, and in each must find an icon that corresponds to symbols of various products. The interface design was provided to the company, which they refined at our request and adapted for the VR application. The responses to object selection and activation are well thought out. The sound design has been carefully crafted. 

Additionally, the app includes the capability to collect user analytics on gameplay progression, which is a crucial feature for both our company and the client.

The work was completed very quickly, with all versions of the application undergoing continuous testing. The head of video production remained in constant communication and provided status updates in accordance with the project schedule.

We are pleased with the VR application as well as the client, as it perfectly matched the vision we had in mind. We've received positive feedback from users. The game is intuitive and easy to understand, yet still offers a level of challenge that keeps it engaging. The game definitely drew attention to the brand at the event.

I’m the director of creative technology for a video production company. We do live shows, advertising, media, and everything related to image and sound. We’ve been in business for over 20 years and have offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Sensorama has been our technology partner and high-end technology advisor since we met. We initially did pitches together, and they currently provide advising and consulting services. We’ve done several jobs with them.

Our most recent project is an AR development project. Sensorama has done everything from scratch, from coming up with ideas to completion and delivery. They’ve created AR filters for Instagram and Snapchat accounts. They’ve also designed a face filter to add effects, so they’ve had to develop custom plugins for the filter.

We’re in direct communication with both partners and the founders of Sensorama. For the technical team, they usually have a specialist for every task.

We met in San Francisco at an AR conference; they had a booth there.

We began working with them in January 2016, and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Unfortunately, we shut down the AR project, but it had a good start. Our users loved it; we received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our clients, who were asking for more.

They perform exceptionally well. We typically communicate through Slack, Zoom, international calls, and any other means, depending on the time of day and our location.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their biggest strengths are their access to leaders and specialists in high tech. Sensorama’s team is always reliable, professional, and up-to-date with the latest technology.

They should be more upfront with the tremendous amount of knowledge they can offer; they shouldn’t be so humble.

A representative from Sensorama contacted us after they found out on social media that we are planning to launch the VR cinema. We met at our office in Warsaw and they demonstrated the capabilities of their system for managing VR cinema.

Their product covered most of our needs and they agreed to make customizations according to our needs. Their price was also suitable for us, so we decided to start the cooperation.

Their “Unirsee” system consisted of a VR player for Samsung Gear VR, a Windows application for managing multiple VR players at locations and a web application for remote management of VR content. „Univrsee” system was used at 7 locations for managing more than 100 VR devices simultaneously. There were more than 20 000 demonstrations of VR content to visitors.

I am the owner and CEO of a Japanese web marketing and systems development company. Our main services include planning and development of new web services, SEO, web advertising, and system development for business efficiency. Additionally, I am the CEO of a company that operates a virtual store platform.

We needed to develop a platform in our virtual store that would replace the typical e-commerce platform within a year. The service needed to be available to everyone in a browser, smoothly from a smartphone, tablet, or PC, without the need for an app or headset. Our company had engineers and designers capable of developing general web services, but we had never developed a service like Metaverse or a 3D game before.

We initially hired another company in India with a good track record, but they had problems with development speed and quality, so we turned to Sensorama for help.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We consulted with our partner, who has connections with many system development companies in Ukraine. He then referred me to this company as he has always been reliable and strong in AR/VR. There were a number of other potential companies, but after meeting with members of Sensorama and being reassured by their sound advice and estimates, we decided to hire them.

The basic steps of the project were agile development, with us communicating the challenges of the product and Sensorama researching, estimating, developing, and testing. Since we could not provide clear specifications or instructions, we asked them to propose development details and estimate each function, and they proceeded with the development.

For the development environment, we used third parties such as Playcanvas, a game engine, and Agora, a voice caller, in order to operate the virtual store using WebGL. The development scope was asked to cover a wide range of systems, from the root system of the product to systems for each issue.

Specifically, the scope ranged from improving avatar behavior, which the previous team was unable to solve, to lightening the display speed, to implementing voice calls and chat functions, to spatial movement within the virtual space, and more. They also made suggestions from time to time for systems that our product might need in the future.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We basically communicated primarily with a helpful project manager. So I don't know their detailed number of assignees, but that greatly reduced our communication costs and made the development very reasonable and smooth. In terms of the development, we can assume that the project manager, front-end engineer, back-end engineer, 3D modeler, and AWS engineer were at least involved.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We are very pleased and have overwhelming respect for their personalities and abilities. There are 3 reasons.

1. Development speed and cost Even though the monthly development cost was lower than our previous team, the deliverables were of high quality and completed quickly. I was also surprised at how quickly they absorbed new technologies, faster than the engineers in my company.
2. Accuracy of man-hour estimates In system development, it is difficult to calculate the required time and cost. However, to my surprise, Sensorama was able to proceed with the development without extending the development period or increasing man-hours.
3. Development structure and motivation Sensorama's team is miraculously strong and cool. Despite the Ukrainian war and the crisis in their lives and the difficult times they went through, they proceeded stronger with high quality development without any delays in the development process. They immediately responded flexibly to our spontaneous requests and took the lead in formulating the specifications.

We communicated via Telegram and GoogleMeet, and collaborated on Google Spreadsheets, Github, Playcanvas, and AWS. Our communication was smooth because the project manager at Sensorama took care of a wide range of our usual development requests and international remittance support. The development survey reports and estimates were detailed in documents and spreadsheets, which was nice and streamlined with no extra meetings.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I think their unique strength is their "ability to absorb new technologies," the technical foundation of their members that makes this possible, and the motivation of their team. They are a great team and easy to understand point in the world for AR/VR development.

However, they did not yet have a proven track record in metaverse development using Playcanvas with WebGL at the beginning, yet they were honest about it in advance and continued to learn and complete their deliverables at a phenomenal rate.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Our biggest regret is that we should have hired Sensorama from the beginning. Our next regret is that if we had a larger development budget, we could have continued to increase their opportunities and the quality of our product. We have had the experience of working with many development companies and there is nothing we would like Sensorama to improve on.

The platform allowed us to create and manage applications on hundreds of devices for different fields: government institutions, airports, exhibitions, events, etc. We are very happy with the product because we can easily change content on many devices in real time and get instant statistics about the usage of the applications.

We provided a short description of what we want to develop for Sensorama. They prepared questions and suggestions for functionality. After several interactions, they prepared a technical specification of the product which was approved by us. After approval Sensorama provided an estimation and project plan. We appreciate their hard work because there were many situations when we had to make changes or fixes at the last moment and they managed to do that.

I am a co-founder and CEO at the popular science media Kunsht.Kunsht is a popular science media platform. Our team creates popular science media [https://kunsht.com.ua], prepares science programs every year at book fairs and festivals, like Book Arsenal and Lviv Book Forum.

Kunsht organized science events at the museums, called Science After Dark . Kunsht also prepares podcasts, popular science videos for Intercity trains and the Kyiv metro. We have launched such podcasts as ‘​Bude tobi nauka’​ (this podcast is top 10 in the Ukrainian segment and it was selected by the Apple team and placed in the featured section on Apple podcasts).

“Post pravdy”podcast about media literacy and many others. Kunsht team got the award for “​High journalistic standards​” in category ’niche and regional media’ in 2019. In cooperation with Prague civil society center, we mentored and helped launch over 20 podcasts of social activists in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

In cooperation with Goethe Institut and Tactical Tech we created the offline and online exhibition on the topic of digital sovereignty called “Data CTRL Centre”– [https://datactrlcentre.com]. Sensorama worked on its individual exhibit with augmented reality.
