I'm the founder of a software app business name Flowtime which is aimed at helping music students improve their practice habits, practice more, and stick with their learning journey.

For what projects/services did your company hire Riseapps, and what were your goals?

Riseapps helped complete the beta version of my Flowtime iOS app, thereby allowing me to take it to market for the all important testing and customer acceptance phase. When they took on the project the app was partially built, and they had to understand the work already done, and plan the remain six months of work to get the app beta to market. They put a team in place and made it happen!

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I found the team easy to communicate with, and I got the feeling initially that they were genuinely interested in helping my business, rather than simply charging out their time. The team were all very personable, positive and knowledgeable and I realized that the interpersonal aspects of the relationship were as important as the technical know-how, which they also possessed.

There were two main steps:

1. Putting in place the remaining pieces of the app to make it beta ready
2. Adding a set of V1 features to make the testing version comparable to a real life chargeable produce.

Technologies included AWS, MongoDB, Node.js, iOS.

The Riseapps team consisted of a PM, Delivery Manager, iOS dev, backend dev, QA tester, and a part time devops person.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I was very happy with the outcomes, in that they were able to give me a functional beta that included a set of additional V1 features I know will make all the difference when putting the app in front of its potential users. The work was done professional in a reasonable timeframe, and the quality was top class.

I was very happy with the PM, she was a excellent communicator and organizer. We used the Atlassian suite of products including Jira and Confluence as part of the PM process, and predominantly Slack and email for communication. I joined fairly regular dev team meetings largely to review Sprint outcomes, and had very regular meetings with the PM to discuss progress. This was every day or two during the busy times.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their communication and attitude of helpfulness were the standouts for me. This is over and above the quality of the product they delivered.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not that I can think of.

We needed a front-end ReactNative vendor that had experience coding custom user interfaces for our MVP. Our goal was to hire a ReactNative vendor to support our backend team in their efforts to develop a minimum viable product in 90 days.

We found Rise through web search, and Upwork. Their portfolio demonstrated their knowledge in building beautiful MVP's for startups. We chose to move forward with RiseApps to accelerate our timeline of producing an MVP.

We started with a discovery meeting around the new user interface that we wanted to implement into the MVP that our backend team was working on. Rise prepared a SprintPlan based on our requirements and assigned a PM. Key deliverables included a front-end for the iOS and Android App, including the API Integration. Rise worked from our repository allowing our backend developers to work closely together with RiseApps.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We worked with the owner Vladlen and their PM team. Once the project started our primary point of contact was their PM and development team. On the development team, we worked with a QA Resource, a Senior iOS Developer, a Mid-Level Android developer, and one Jr Developer to support our efforts on the Web Development aspects of the project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

RiseApps helped us develop the first version of our MVP in just 90 days!

RiseApps integrated into our existing tools which included JIRA, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Meets. We met regularly through standup calls 3x per week. The PM was very friendly and showed a commitment to ensuring the team was aligned and up to speed with their assignments to keep the project moving forward at a steady pace.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

When you're launching a startup, sometimes it requires accomplishing things that have never been done before. No matter what we assigned to RiseApps, they were able to roll up their sleeves, research, and get back to us with a solution.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

RiseApps could improve their communication. We're based in the USA and are custom to highly collaborative, proactive communication. Although Rise was very responsive, much of their interactions with us required our team internally to be as proactive and as detailed as possible to ensure RiseApps had what they needed to be successful.

I also recommend training the developers to help engineer the technical architecture. Today the work they provided helped us launch the MVP, however, the code was not scalable due to the unsupported code libraries they used.

We’ve experienced significant savings as a result of the GraphQL API, which can run without Node.js. Riseapps provided effective implementation and documentation.

The app connects to HIPAA cloud storage, and every picture is encrypted before moving to the cloud, protecting patient privacy.

The project management team was responsive to any challenges or queries. They acted quickly throughout the engagement.
