Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the marketing executive at Esri UK, a geographic information systems (GIS) software company. Our software is completely free to all schools.

What challenge were you trying to address with Right Thing Films?

We needed to produce a video specifically for our education team, who sell software to schools and higher education institutions. We wanted to change the image of geography; it’s not about dusty maps. Our goal was to draw awareness and open the eyes of young people.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Right Thing Films produced two films. One was to inspire 12–18 years old students to take geography as a subject using GIS. The second video was to support teachers in their teaching of GIS. We had a lot of free resources, hubs, and teaching plans.

Additionally, Right Thing Films created a few graphics and animations that included some of our interactive maps and an asset with the globe at the beginning. However, they mainly focused on filming teachers and students. They provided their own equipment and handled the video mixing and editing. The team also created posters to send to schools for the walls of their geography classrooms.

What is the team composition?

We had two teammates as our main contacts. In total, there were 5–6 people on the team.

How did you come to work with Right Thing Films?

We received an email from them. We gave them a brief, and they came back with their proposal. We liked the example videos they shared; they were creative and outside the box.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2021–May 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. Everyone internally thought the first video was brilliant, new, and fresh; it was really well-received. Once we put it out on social media and sent it to people within education, everyone said it was what they’d been looking for. People also said it was an excellent way to show their students what they could do with geography and GIS.

How did Right Thing Films perform from a project management standpoint?

Picking up the phone and speaking with them was easy. I went along for the filming day to see how all the team worked. Overall, we got many updates from them. They kept in contact, and we used Microsoft Teams to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were engaged from the initial conversation. We liked that they were a small team; they were very creative and good people to work with. We got along well with them; we had to change things up last minute, and they were accommodating and flexible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

In the end, the video was a bit rushed; they delivered on the day. It’s not really a gripe but more of an observation.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you’re looking for a young, dynamic, and flexible team. They’re creative and great to work with.

For what projects/services did your company hire Right Thing Films?

We were working with a client on a campaign during lockdowns in the middle of the pandemic and we wanted to create some bespoke short video content. The aim was to offer help, advice, guidance and support to anyone who had lost loved ones and were grieving

How did you select this vendor?

I had worked with the founder previously and reached out to discuss ideas the project along with other vendors.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

We initially set up time to discuss the project and budget and talked about possible talent and timeframes. Once we had agreed talent with the client the company managed all production and set the shoots up quickly. The films featured people talking about their experience of grief or offering advice so it required a great level of understanding and sensitivity.

As it was during lockdown the shoots were all with limited crew and with covid secure protocols in place so we were unable to attend so we needed clear communication and trust with the team which we established well beforehand

I worked closely with the producer from initial briefing stage through to final delivery

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The videos exceeding all the viewing targets and received very positive feedback from viewers. The videos formed part of the overall campaign which has gone on to win a Campaign Media Award!

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The producer would regularly update me on progress during the pre-production stage. Deadlines which were sometimes quite tight were always met which kept the project to schedule

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The quality of the films is impressive and the team were able to turnaround content quickly enabling us to stick to very tight timelines. The communication was great at every stage. And the company handled the sensitivity of the content perfectly

Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?

Not that comes to mind. It was a great first experience working with the team

I’m the co-founder of TravelLocal.com, an online travel company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Right Thing Films?

We’ve historically not done much in the way of video content, so we decided to break that mold and just do something bigger and better. We wanted to be able to express the soul of our brand and get our videos in front of a big audience.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Right Thing Films provided us with video production and digital marketing services.

We started with a discussion of the project where they gave us advice on the technical requirements, format, and equipment that we might need for the video. They also edited our videos, chose the relevant music, and implemented some visual effects to the output.

We got all of our suppliers from around the world to shoot and submit some footage we wanted to incorporate into the video. The Right Thing Films then centralized the quality control of the production because the videos that were sent were filmed during the pandemic.

What is the team composition?

We mostly communicated with the video editor and graphic designer.

How did you come to work with Right Thing Films?

I’ve known the CEO for some years now and we were aware of their company’s capabilities.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested about £1,500 (approximately $1,900 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from March-April 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We decided to promote the video on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter and received great feedback. We reached more than 170,000 people across those platforms and even gained some personal comments from competitors in the industry with warm reception.

How did Right Thing Films perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was good as they were able to meet our hard deadline. Other than that, they communicated well, responded quickly, and were consistently professional.

We typically interacted through phone, email, and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed with their ability to give simple and strategic advice, which highly reduced the failure of the production.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing they need to improve on as it was a relatively short project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be brave about bringing people in early to provide you with strategic advice because it’s worth every penny.

We haven't launched the film yet.

Communication was brilliant and kept the project moving all the way to completion.

The most impressive thing about this company was the management of our account: the communication was fantastic, and Becky was truly committed to meeting our deadlines. The quality of the film was fantastic as well.
