Problem Entertainment was originally founded in 2008 by Shawn Martin as Joseph James Pictures and was created to self-distribute his own films.
In 2013, the company picked up it's first outside project, a script from Ryan Gallant titled I Promise. The film was directed by company John Houston and was released on the internet in May 2013 and later released on the Short Film Collection DVD in November 2013.
In 2017, the company rebranded as Problem Entertainment, a company it founded in 2015.
