We partnered with PremierSoft on some of the projects that we have with our clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We usually hold a discovery meeting to establish what type of professional we will need from PremierSoft. We give them a description of the work that we’re trying to accomplish, the technologies we want to use, and the experience that we want in a developer. They then give us some profiles based on those criteria.

Once we’ve chosen a developer, we get right into work. Most of our projects involve iOS development, and we use React for the frontend and Node.js for the backend. With us, PremierSoft strictly does development, but I know that they have design capabilities in their team as well. 

What is the team composition?

As this is an ongoing relationship, we commonly work with about 10 people from PremierSoft. During our last engagement with them, we worked with four people, the management team, and product development specialists from their side.

How did you come to work with PremierSoft?

I met one of their partners at a WWDC event in 2015, when we were both attending the Apple developer conference. We got along with them then and just recently got in touch with their team to work on a project.

We have invested around $120,000.

We started working with them in April 2021, and it is still ongoing.

Our partnership has been really great. We consider it a success that our client’s feedback has been amazing. They love our joint work with the professionals of PremierSoft.

How did PremierSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

We usually manage our projects in-house. With them, it is more of planning and coordinating with their COO about availability. It has been working really well, and to be honest, we have been blessed to work with them.

They use the platforms that we use, which are Monday.com and Jira. We also communicate in person or through phone calls, emails, Google Meet, and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re most impressed with their commitment and work speed. They respond really quickly and provide the people that we need at any given time. If they can’t bring someone in right away, they’ll let us know immediately and will commit 1–2 weeks to find what we require. They accomplish what they say, which is really good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The communication between me and their partners is good, but it’s not as fast or responsive when it isn’t between me and them. There is a bit of room for improvement there. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

In our industry, one of the most important things is communication. Unfortunately, some vendors that hire companies like ours want code work done but don’t have a comprehensive amount of information about what they need to accomplish. If you give clarity on what you need, provide all of the details, and list everything that needs to be done, PremierSoft will make it happen. They’re committed to any opportunity they get.

Shortly thereafter, we received a budget for an MVP for the idea, as it contained several steps. After that, we held a full project alignment and explanation meeting for the project manager (Raul).

Every two weeks we had meetings to check on the development of Aloogie. After delivery, we validate the project and send feedback so that bugs and rules can be fixed. After the service was published on the WEB, we still had the company's support for any questions and/or corrections.

Raul was our main point among all areas. Many times we also deal with Rodrigo, the company's CEO.

I’m the COO of Copa&Cia, a company that manufactures, creates, and develops tableware and home decorations. Some of our products are manufactured in Brazil, and most of them are outsourced internationally. We distribute the items to stores and sell them to around 3,000 stores in Brazil, which sell them to the end consumer.

What challenge were you trying to address with PremierSoft?

There’s an important exhibition show and trade fair twice a year in Brazil for our market segment. It’s the biggest in Latin America for home products, and we exhibit there. Buyers can go, see the items they like, and make purchases on the spot.

Before, the sales during the exhibition were done on paper. We’d write the name of the customer and their order on a paper sheet to take those documents back to our warehouse. Then, we’d type it into our ERP system, and the order would go through the shipping process.

We wanted to automate that process and create an app to make sales during the 4–5 days of the exhibition. It’d serve to accommodate buyers and make as many sales as we could.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

PremierSoft built an iOS app for iPods from scratch, but they outsourced some designs and graphics. First, we purchased 30–40 iPods and developed the software, which was uploaded to the iPods. After that, the sales were made through the mobile app. The app was for internal use, but third-party sales reps that worked with us during the exhibition show used it as well.

The project included many important features. We worked with around 1500 SKUs, so we couldn’t know our stock situation for all the items. The app was connected to the internet, so we’d see if we had the number of items the customer wanted. Also, there were other features for minimum order and quantity. For example, we needed to sell in multiples of 36, so it was easy for the sales team to navigate and put in the correct information.

With their help, we also identified a special case with a barcode reader for the iPod, which turned out to be the same case that Apple used at Apple Stores to make sales. We purchased this case, so it was easier for the salesperson to read the product information. The iPod would just beep and tag the item, so they didn’t have to punch in the code number.

PremierSoft integrated the app into our ERP system and provided maintenance for many months. Each time we went to the trade fair, we made minor adjustments and UX improvements.

We had a project manager and a developer.

How did you come to work with PremierSoft?

We were looking for a company to make an iOS app for us, and there were limited resources in our region. We did some research online and came across a small company based in our city. They had some experience with iOS software, so we called them to discuss our vision.

We decided to try them out and see if they wanted to engage with us on a bigger project, which involved building the app from scratch. They accepted the challenge, so we started working together. Communication was easy because they were based in the same city.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $110,000–$120,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from November 2012–July 2013.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t use their app anymore, but we initially cut down the time to make a sale from 30–40 minutes to 5–10 minutes. After the sale was complete in the mobile app, the information was already on our server. It was very easy to use, and the transition from paper to the mobile app was also easy. Moreover, saving time resulted in more sales.

How did PremierSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered under budget and were great with the schedule. The team was always on time. If they hadn’t been on time, we would’ve had to wait another six months to use the app at the next exhibition.

We had in-person meetings and communicated via WhatsApp and phone.

They embraced the project and understood our needs. PremierSoft traveled on their own expenses and worked with us during the event to give some on-time support. Overall, we were satisfied with the outcome and their partnership. They were always available when we needed them.

It’s very important to have João (Co-Founder & CTO). He’s young, and he was very involved in our project. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know if I’d recommend the company.
