I’m an enterprise solution architect at Siemens, a global software company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pratiti Technologies?

We wanted to do some core innovation and develop some technologies for web components that could be included in our web app. However, we were short on resources and we needed additional people to help us fill the gaps.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pratiti Technologies provided development resources who worked independently. They were like part of my team, but we were on a weekly collaboration. They used JavaScript for web development, and they used React for the framework. They also used their experience with our local platform called Mendix and our engineering software like Teamcenter in our project.

What is the team composition?

There was an architect, a tech lead, and two developers.

How did you come to work with Pratiti Technologies?

We ran an RFP with five companies in India and a few companies here. We evaluated companies based on their response to the RFP. We also had several interviews with key people to understand their depth of understanding and their approach.

In that process, Pratiti Technologies had deep knowledge about the problems I was trying to solve. Their response was the best among the others. They were very transparent, and I felt they could get my job done without me spending a lot of time with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership ran from February–August 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We went through a couple of reviews, and they did a great job in meeting our standards. Due to that, we would be bringing them again for our next project, and we plan to have them on board in January 2022.

How did Pratiti Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We had weekly standup calls using Microsoft Teams. There were also a lot of emails between our teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were willing to go the extra mile to solve our problems. Above all, we didn’t have to spoon-feed them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve their communication skills because it took us several meetings to understand their proposed solutions since we were dealing with complex issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a good scope statement before assigning tasks, and have a periodic design and architecture review with Pratiti Technologies’ senior people.

Additionally, make sure that their tech lead and architect are taking ownership rather than a junior developer. In our case, without a senior resource, it would have been impossible for us to complete the project.

Our company makes engineering, business automation, and data management solutions. I'm a product manager for one of the engineering product lines there.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pratiti Technologies?

We were facing challenges internally when it came to staffing and budget, so we outsourced the development of one of our product lines to Pratiti.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The product that Pratiti developed is used for the automation of design. Our clients as well as their customers could input their requirements for a custom product into the software. The software will then produce a design that meets both the client and the end customer’s needs. 

The Pratiti team used the Microsoft development stack and a web framework provided by another group. They did everything from architecting and developing the code down to testing it, packaging it, and providing technical documentation for it. 

What is the team composition?

We work with around a couple dozen people from Pratiti. There is a full-time program manager who manages the team and coordinates communication between our company and theirs on a day-to-day basis. We also talk on a weekly and monthly basis with one of the managing partners to review how things are going. 

How did you come to work with  Pratiti Technologies?

We didn’t undergo a formal RFP process but we did do a fairly extensive evaluation of Pratiti’s capabilities alongside several other vendors. We looked into their maturity, technical capabilities, portfolio, management philosophy, and all those types of things. 

We spent a couple of weeks having each potential supplier present how they think the product should be managed. From there, we were able to determine that Pratiti was the best fit. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent more than $1 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We officially made the decision to go with Pratiti in October 2019, but the work began in earnest in January 2020. The team has delivered a number of releases but we are still in a long-term engagement.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since the engagement began, Pratiti has developed five versions of the product. I can’t tell the exact number of the features that have been added to each release, but the most recent version houses the product line’s largest feature since 2010–2011. 

The team has helped with the major update of a critical functionality in the software, and our clients have been very pleased with the product and its features. Our customers have continued renewing and expanding their licensed usage, and we’ve considered this to be the main metric of success. 

How did  Pratiti Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, Pratiti performs pretty well from a project management standpoint. Our company is very rigid when it comes to certain philosophies, processes, and tools, and their team is very adaptable to it all. We know firsthand that developing an extremely complex engineering software is not easy to get right the first time, which is why we’re very pleased with the quality of the work that Pratiti has produced. 

They are very forthcoming when pointing out issues and talking about solutions. We are never blindsided. We like to think that bad news received early is good news, and it’s very helpful that they quickly and collectively try to fix anything that has gone awry.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Pratiti’s company is the right size for us. There are much larger or much smaller companies that could’ve done this, but they’re in the sweet spot. They’re small enough that we could get the personal attention of their managing partners, but not so small as to have no maturity or capacity to scale up. 

Another thing that’s impressive about them is that they treat us with importance. They understand that we’re putting the future of our product in the hands of a third party, and so the whole thing needed to be given attention by the right people. 

Those are what really stand out to us: their size and the dedication of their managing partners.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Every company could always improve on something, and though we are highly pleased with the results, we think that Pratiti could use more senior-level people on the team. We’ve had to scale up quickly and were able to successfully do so anyway, so we’re very happy with how things turned out regardless. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Just as we have, disclose all of the strengths and weaknesses of your product and identify what challenges may come up during development. It greatly helps Pratiti determine how many people they need to do the development and it prevents them from having to encounter unprecedented challenges. 

Be sure to establish good communications with the managing partners from the get-go as well. Ask them hard questions and work out how you’re going to govern the project, how frequently you will interface with each other, and how you will conduct your meetings.
