Planet Media was founded in 1999 by Kurt Whitt, who left a Silicon Valley career in internet and new media to build a smaller, senior kind of agency. We work from the Neusteters Building in downtown Denver and serve clients across the United States. Every project is run in Basecamp, so messages, files, to-dos and timelines are visible to you in real time.

Senior-led, start to finish

The people you meet on the first call are the ones who do the work: strategy, copy, design and development. There is no handoff to juniors and no account manager translating between you and the team. Twenty-seven years in, that has not changed, and it is why clients stay two to three years.

Fixed scope and price, in writing

Before design starts you get the pages, the responsibilities, the timeline and the price in writing. Nothing moves until you approve it. No hourly surprises, and no change order for something we should have asked about in week one. If the scope grows, we quote it and you decide.

You own everything we build

When the work is done, it is yours. The website, the brand files, the accounts and the logins stay in your name. Your team is trained before the handover, so publishing a page, sending a campaign or updating a price never waits on us. We stay on if you want us to, never because you have to.

We agree the measure before the work starts, and it goes in the same document as the scope and the price. If we cannot say how we will know the work succeeded, the brief is not finished. Traffic on its own is not a result. What we track depends on what the work has to do: qualified inquiries, revenue and conversion rate for a store, email list growth, memberships and signups, or donations started and completed. For a company it is often whether the buyer who arrives skeptical finds the proof before the price. For a nonprofit it is whether a funder who checks the website finds an organization worth backing. Whatever we choose, we take a baseline first. Without a number from before, an improvement is an opinion. For a website that baseline also includes load speed, accessibility against WCAG 2.2 and page weight, because those move everything else: a site that takes six seconds on a phone loses the visitor before the message arrives. You get the reporting in plain language, tied to the measure we agreed, not a dashboard of everything that can be counted. If a number goes the wrong way, you hear it from us along with what we plan to do about it. In twenty seven years we have found that clients forgive a bad month and never forgive finding out late. Ninety days after launch we measure again against that same baseline and fix what drifted. That check is part of the project, not an upsell.

We work with organizations in the sustainable economy: companies in solar and clean energy, sustainable food and agriculture, green building and the circular economy, consumer brands with something real to prove, and the nonprofits, foundations and certification bodies that work alongside them. Right now we are most interested in three kinds of project. Brand and website work for companies that have outgrown the identity they launched with, where the business has changed but the site still describes the old one. Ecommerce for products where the buyer checks the certifications before adding to cart, so the proof has to sit above the buy button rather than in a policy link. And website rebuilds for organizations whose site is older than their current work and no longer explains it. We are also a good fit for an existing site that needs to be made faster, accessible and easier for the team to update, without starting again from zero. We are not the right fit for a single page with no strategy behind it, for work that would need claims we cannot support, or for whoever is looking for the cheapest bid. We are a small senior team, we take a limited number of projects at a time, and we would rather say no than deliver late. Most of our clients are outside Colorado. We have run projects across the United States since 1999 and the whole process is built to work that way, so where you are does not change the price or the timeline.

Every project runs in Basecamp, and you are in it from day one. Messages, files, approvals, to-dos and the schedule live in one place, so you can see what is happening without asking for a status call, and nothing important sits in someone's inbox. We start with a discovery session to agree what the work has to change, who it is for and what it has to produce. You get the scope, the responsibilities, the timeline and a fixed price in writing before anything is designed. Nothing moves until you approve that document, and that document is what we hold ourselves to. From there the work moves in stages, and each stage ends with something concrete in your hands: the page structure and the messaging, then the designs, then a working site or campaign to review. You approve each stage before the next one starts, so nothing is a surprise at the end and nobody spends two weeks building on a decision you never made. The people you meet on the first call stay with the project. Planet Media has been senior-led since 1999, which in practice means the person who writes your strategy is the person who writes your copy and reviews your build. There is no account manager translating between you and the team, and you always know who to write to. We work with organizations across the United States from our office in downtown Denver, and the whole process is built to run that way. Distance and time zones do not change the price or the timeline. Ninety days after launch we measure again against the baseline we set at the start and fix what drifted. If you would rather keep us on for updates and support, we do that. If your team wants to run it, we train them, hand over the accounts and leave a written guide.

You do, and it is written into the scope before the work starts. The domain, the hosting, the analytics, the email platform and any advertising accounts are opened in your organization's name, with your billing. If they already exist, we ask for access instead of creating our own. The brand files, the source files and the content are yours to keep. Before handover we train your team on the platform and leave a written guide for the things they will actually do: publish a page, add a post, update a price, send a campaign. If someone leaves, the guide stays and the next person is not starting from nothing. Your site does not live on an agency account you cannot leave, and there is no login that only we have. We choose the platform your team can realistically manage rather than the one that keeps you dependent, and for custom builds we add an admin panel so content can be updated without touching code. If you decide to bring the work in house or move to another agency, nothing has to be rebuilt or renegotiated. Most clients stay with us for years, and we would rather that be a choice than a condition.

It gets quoted in writing and you approve it before anyone starts. Scope changes are normal. A new audience appears, a funder or an investor asks for something, a launch date moves, a product line arrives that was not there in week one. What is not normal is learning the cost afterwards, so we handle it the same way every time: we tell you what the change adds in time and in money, you decide, and only then does it enter the plan. If the change is small and we can absorb it, we absorb it and we say so rather than saving it up for the invoice. If it is large enough to move the launch date, you hear that before you commit, not the week before launch. The original price does not move on its own. Nothing we should have asked about in the first week turns into a change order in the sixth, because the discovery session exists precisely so those questions get asked while they are still cheap to answer. We would rather have an awkward conversation in week two than an invoice you did not expect in week eight. Twenty-seven years in, that is the part clients tell us they remember.
