Please describe your company and your position there.

We are a construction tool manufacturer with more than 2000 employees. I'm a technical software manager responsible for a product line.

For what projects/services did your company hire Ortosoft?

We outsourced the development of a software product line to Ortosoft. 

What were your goals for this project?

Their main task was to develop a Qt application on an embedded Linux device.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had a long history of working together and had good experiences with them. Ortosoft has a lot of domain knowledge about our field. We chose them even though other software suppliers were less expensive.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They have customized a Yocto Linux OS, developed a business application, and built support tools for production and services. They cover every aspect of development, including architecture, implementation, testing, and infrastructure.

What was the team composition?

The team has four developers and one tester. The developers have a wide range of skills, including Qt, QML, Linux kernel driver integration, Yocto Linux, Linux Wi-Fi Framework, and C++17. I serve as the product owner, specifying the features and checking the work. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Because of their help, we have launched our new tool. Feedback has been good and we haven't encountered major issues. We have also adapted our software because of early market feedback. They have helped make our product a success.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We set up an agile approach with an organized team. We have weekly status meetings to define our goals for the next sprint. I communicate directly with the developers, and their owner serves as the project manager. We use Jira and Confluence for feature and task specification, which works well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I most appreciate our direct, honest communication with the developers and the owner. Because of this collaboration, we work efficiently and solve problems easily.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Sometimes it takes several iterations to implement the UI that our corporate designer specify. I would try to connect the developers with the UI designers in a more effective manner.

What challenge were you trying to address with Ortosoft?

We engaged Ortosoft to help us develop a desktop application, based on some of the designs and guidelines I provided.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Ortosoft built a 3D graphics engine application that allows users with minimal graphic design experience to create and edit 3D animations that can then be easily embedded onto a website. The technology is Adobe Flash compatible, and was built using C++ and some other libraries.

What is the team composition?

I worked with about three people, including a project manager and a couple of programmers.

How did you come to work with Ortosoft?

My colleague recommended them and, after some initial discussions, I was convinced they were fit for the project.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested about $80,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together for a few years from 2011–2014.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Ortosoft delivered a functional, reliable app that was right on track with my vision. They were very quick to incorporate feedback or additional features as needed throughout the engagement. If something new came out onto the market, for example, they were quick to incorporate the technology we needed.

How did Ortosoft perform from a project management standpoint?

I have no complaints; I was very happy with their cooperation overall. We tracked everything through Jira, but I was also able to easily reach them through Skype or email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their responsiveness and approachability sets them apart. They're also very willing to take on challenging tasks, whether they seem impossible or not.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I plan on working with them again in the future, and I can't think of much for them to improve besides working on turning deliverables around a little more quickly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Besides recommending to work with them, I'd just say to listen to and trust their feedback. They're very honest and straightforward about what can and can't be done.

I’m the director of Digital Dental Service Ltd. We serve the global dental sector.

For what projects/services did your company hire Ortosoft?

We needed a development partner to build 3D medical software.

What were your goals for this project?

The tool needed to manage complex input data and allow users to manipulate it. Them, it needed to produce a 3D STL (Standard Triangle Language) file that displayed the manipulations.

How did you select this vendor?

Our partners highly recommended them.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Using C++ technology, Ortosoft developed the entire software solution from scratch to match our specifications, including the user interface. With the system, dentists can input multiple medical images and complex 3D files and easily manipulate the data on both Mac and PC devices. Following the dentists’ modifications to the information, the software will generate an STL file that showcases the adjustments.

What was the team composition?

Ortosoft provided a fluid team. They scaled up or down to accommodate the workload.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Since launching our business, we’ve grown to serve over 10,000 users around the world. I attribute a significant portion of this success to the Ortosoft development team.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Ortosoft was as part of our internal team. They were always available, answering my calls consistently no matter the time.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

With a professional approach to the project, they were able to understand our needs thoroughly. We provided the specs and relied on Ortosoft to figure out the details. Despite some minor miscommunications, which I expected, we had no issues throughout the engagement.

There’s always room to improve in terms of delivery time.
