We needed a product marketing expert to work with our SME's and help us shape our messaging and positioning. We needed a messaging and positioning framework, personas, and jobs-to-be-done exercises. We also needed to get a set of LinkedIn ads up and running, which Olivine managed entirely over the course of several months.

Our messaging aligns with our target market which has increased interest and engagement. The CPL on our LI ads has also decreased.

I am a product manager for SafeGraph, a data as a service (DaaS) company specializing in data used to populate maps.

We hired Olivine Marketing for product marketing. Our data set can be used in various ways, and we wanted to state better how it works well for certain people rather than broadly just saying what it did well. We hired Olivine Marketing to help us segment our market strategically.

Olivine Marketing ran workshops to help us determine what we felt were the strongest use cases for our data. They also helped us develop a persona deck to discuss our customers in a common language. Olivine Marketing executed marketing sales enablement decks and updated our website with some of the new language and terminology we use. Their team assisted with the copy and creation of materials to help us address the personas we chose to target.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The biggest success we had from the engagement with Olivine Marketing was the internal coordination within our organization. After working with their team, we had a better framework for our company to discuss our customers and markets. We still use a lot of the language we developed with Olivine Marketing today, even though it has been a while since we engaged with them. 

Our website is also cleaner, and we’re getting more quality leads. Working with Olivine Marketing was a great kickstart to our entire initiative.

They delivered everything on time and stayed within budget. We met weekly, and they kept us honest throughout the engagement.

Do as much preparation work as possible to understand your markets and customers. The more you can give them, the better they’ll be. You need to have a definitive strategy, and they will enhance that.

Initially, Olivine focused on a swift onboarding by tapping into our existing research. Their primary project was the Vultr Cloud Alliance Partner Program. They began with the most crucial five partnerships, creating various assets, including co-messaging guides, an 8-slide pitch deck, landing pages, and foundational technical documentation to engage the community. 

For product marketing, Olivine helped us fine-tune our approach. They provided feedback on several key areas like target personas and market positioning. To ensure smooth project flow, Olivine worked on setting up regular check-ins, deciding on how to deliver content, and establishing a feedback system. Plus, Olivine's design team ensured everything looked polished, adhering to Vultr's brand and collaborating with vendors in the Cloud Alliance.

The project with Olivine Marketing yielded several measurable outcomes that highlight our progress and success. Firstly, we successfully onboarded five new members to the Cloud Alliance, expanding our partner ecosystem. We delved deep into research and, through a series of interviews, crafted Vultr's initial set of personas, laying the foundation for our target audience's understanding. 

This informed the development of Vultr's positioning and messaging documents, ensuring our communication is precise and resonates with our audience. Visually, we revamped our presentations with a fresh look and feel, enhancing audience engagement. Throughout this collaborative journey, we generated dozens of sales enablement collateral materials, equipping our sales team with essential tools to drive growth.

Olivine Marketing's project management was exemplary. They employed a range of tools to meticulously plan and monitor the status of all items in production, ensuring a transparent and efficient workflow. What truly stood out was the presence of a dedicated team member who ensured I remained on track, making the collaboration smooth and straightforward. 

Our communications were always met with a proactive attitude; any requests or needs from our end were addressed without any hesitation, reflecting their can-do spirit. Remarkably, not only were all projects delivered punctually, but many were also completed ahead of schedule. Olivine was consistently receptive to new tasks, and they collaborated closely with us to guarantee timely delivery without compromising on quality.

Instead of glossing over unfamiliar territories, they displayed an admirable tenacity, consistently asking insightful questions to fill any knowledge gaps. 

I distinctly remember instances where they proactively sought sit-down sessions with me, aiming to grasp an in-depth overview of everything Vultr brings to the table. This commitment and their ability to immerse themselves so deeply into our operations made them feel less like an external contractor and more like an intrinsic part of our full-time team. Their approach was both impressive and unique, making our collaboration exceptionally fruitful.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Olivine Marketing could have done differently?

In our journey together, there weren't any significant areas of concern that arose. However, a couple of minor areas did come up from time to time. Firstly, there was a slight learning curve when it came to in-depth product training. A bit more initial research could have bridged this gap quicker. Additionally, aligning our project tracking mechanisms presented a mild challenge since both of our teams operated on different tools. 

Finding a unified or integrated tracking solution early on might have streamlined our collaborative efforts even more. Nonetheless, these issues were minor blips in an otherwise smooth partnership and those issues are also influenced by Vultr's specialized products and security-focused mindset.

I've worked closely with a few different team members at Olivine, and had the same point person (Anna Cockell, Sales Enablement Specialist) through our time together. Anna is always responsive and communicates the project needs across her team after we check in each week.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The enablement materials Olivine helped create to support persona messaging and our new go to market motion selling packages, has been really well received and helped in onboarding many new sales reps globally.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We have weekly check-ins with their team -- one for 30 mins and one for 15 mins, and communicate throughout the week on slack and email as needed. Communication and workflow rhythms have been very easy with Olivine.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are responsive and adaptable, and happy to take on and suggest different projects as needed. They are resourceful and able to figure out how to tackle a wide range of initiatives.
